Look at these Colbert high draft picks- Artie Burns, Mason Rudolph, Kenny Pickett (jury still out), James Washington, Devin Bush, Chase Claypool, Terrell Edmunds, Kendrick Green and DeMarvin Leal. All these guys were drafted no later than round 3. No wonder this team has struggled. Colbert's drafting was highly overrated. He was no Tom Donohoe. What do you think of these picks?

The No. 1 picks are the key. But I would counter some of your picks with TJ Watt, Ryan Shazier, JuJu, Diontae Johnson, Highsmith, Freiermuth in that same time frame. But you have to remember where the Steelers typically draft every year. They are not the Jets, Jaguars and Browns who get loaded with high No. 1s every year

Hi Gerry - thanks for the chats.  On Saturday, do you think the Steelers will be willing to pull Mitch if he gets off to a slow start?  The PFF score and my own eyes tell how bad he was last Thursday.

If they are losing and that's the reason, they have to do something. You heard Tomlin the other day -- This is a BIG game. I think anything is possible. But Trubisky is no more to blame for a poor offense than Pickett. And I think that's the realization.

Hey Gerry.  I find it hard to believe that Tomlin was unaware that Watt had to change out his visor due to his concussion.  If he wasn't aware, what does he do in game?  He doesn't look at a play card.  He doesn't communicate with players on the bench.  He just watches.  Now clearly he doesn't even notice changes with his top player.  Couldn't he do all of that nothing from home?

Hi Gerry, Cowher had a lot of good teams that were a QB short until they drafted #7.  While Steelers fans are calling for Tomlin's head now, can't much of the current lack of success be explained by the lack of a HOF QB?  Even in Ben's later years, he wasn't playing at a HOF level.

It's certainly looking that way, but that's also not fair to Cole Holcomb, who got hurt; and maybe even Patrick Peterson. But Roberts is, at the very least, the most pleasantly surprising.

Since 2013, only one 1st round pick has received a long-term second contract. What is going on? It feels like a precipitous decline in their drafting success versus the 10 years before that (when something like 7 of 10 got one).

It means they have missed on a lot of No. 1 picks, and that's not good. And that streak might continue with their 2021 No. 1 pick

Hi Gerry: Thanks again for the chats.  Connor and JuJu played well against the Steelers, but they were chronically injured during their time for second contracts.  Do you find it odd that so many ex-Steelers are starting and performing well with other teams; Dotson and Witherspoon with Rams; Spillane with Raiders; even Ray Ray McCloud with 49ers.  Were they injured last year and never recovered, or do you think just better coaching with new teams?

No, I think it's a by-product of the economic climate of today's NFL where you can't pay everyone, especially when you have two players who are the highest-paid at their position in the league. And I haven't watched those players regularly to say they are performing well for other teams. Maybe they are just playing because those teams aren't very good at those positions or have injuries.

Tomlin needs to react to Cole’s struggles snapping the ball. It’s been a season long problem not just over the last couple of weeks. why can’t he put Anderson or Herbig in the line up? if your not getting the job done than give someone else a chance. Can’t punish one person when not doing the job and let it slide when someone else doesn’t do the job.

Hello . Thank you as always for the chat . I found it funny that Tomlin said in his press conference that we are not opening the quarterback competition again at this point . Wish I could ask Tomlin that did you open it up ever ? Last year sham competition was no competition. I agree with one of the chat question couple of weeks ago that it seems like Mason is being punished for Myles Garrett altercation. Mason has a better record than Trubisky , has a pretty deep ball and does not throw many interceptions . It appeared that Trubisky was just throwing in general vicinity of receivers, without any accuracy . Why is Mason leash so short and other QB can do no wrong ? Thank you very much and Seasons Greetings .
