Gerry Dulac's Steelers chat: 12.14.22

Both offense and defense lines are horrible.
Gerry Dulac
11:37
I disagree with your assessment of the offensive line. All in all, they have been much better than everyone feared at the beginning of the season.
Tim from Tyrone
11:37
Gerry one more observation about the Steeler talent level. The level of talent on the offensive line, the defensive line beside Cam, inside linebackers, and corners is not really that good. They really haven't been drafting that great especially during the 1st round. The free agent signings also haven't been very good. Your thoughts.  Thanks
Gerry Dulac
11:37
Hey Tim, if I had money left over from Christmas shopping, I'd pay you!!
Tim
11:38
Gerry, why are we so bad at free agent signings?  The secondary, o line and especially linebackers.  This goes back a few seasons, not just this one.  Oh, the days of bettis and farrior are but a distant memory.  Money or philosophy?
Gerry Dulac
11:43
Bettis was a draft-day trade, not a free-agent signing, and, yes, not all free-agent signings are a home run like Farrior. But I will also remind you about Will Wolford, Jeff Hartings, Kevin Greene, Ryan Clark, Joe Haden, to name a few. You know the deal -- the Steelers do not go out and spend money on the high-priced free agents. They never will. That's their philosophy and, despite what you have seen this year, their approach has worked very, very, very well for them over the decades. I will also take this time to remind you and everyone else why you're watching what you have watched so far -- BEN ROETHLISBERGER IS GONE!!
Tim
11:44
I realize the bus was acquired by way of a trade, but you get my point.  Our additions of late just don’t seem to add up.
Gerry Dulac
11:44
Ahh, Tim, I see you have corrected yourself. But, yes, I get your point. Thanx
Blue Collar Jeff

Gerry--Thanks for checking the mail. Simple question: Do the Steelers ever get back to the Super Bowl under Mike Tomlin?
Gerry Dulac
11:45
Not just simple, a good one. I've learned to never say never
Virgil
11:45
If Tomlin "Cracks the door" on using Rudolph this week, do you think he will get equal reps with Trubisky in practice?
Gerry Dulac
11:46
If that is the case, he should. He better.
Silvio D.
11:46
After the Raven game, it's very clear that the Steelers need to restock the OL & DL pronto. Please let Mason play out the last part of the season. Let him get some play on tape. Kenny needs to go on IR since he had a second concussion.
Gerry Dulac
11:46
He doesn't need any play on tape. Rudolph is a more than capable backup QB
Yates
11:46
Hi Gerry/  is MT calling D this year?   At this week’s presser he was let off easy when asked if there was discussion about loading box when the practice squad QB was in for the Ravens.
Gerry Dulac
11:46
Same as always
Homer
11:46
How’s that three safety look going?
Gerry Dulac
11:47
That is not their problem, in case you haven't been watching
ToddSeabaugh
11:47
Why do say Tribusky was mistreated? Since when do teams consult or advise players on who they will draft?
Gerry Dulac
11:47
That has nothing to do with it
Yates
11:47
Gerry-  Do all players have to make themselves available to the media?  Why so few interviews with 55?
Gerry Dulac
11:49
Some players aren't interested in being interviewed, which usually means his answers will reflect that disinterest. In other words, they're not worth being interviewed.
JJ

Having no Roethlisberger is exposing Tomlin's coaching warts.  He is not a great talent evaluator. He inherited a super bowl ready team and a franchise QB.   So he had success.  Now he has to rebuild and he's not up to the task..  Time for a new head coach and house cleaning of coaches and players who are not very good, which is most of them. Thoughts.
Gerry Dulac
11:50
Not having any future Hall of Fame QB who has won two Super Bowls and led more fourth-quarter comebacks than any QB in league history other than Brady and Manning is going to expose a team's warts.

11:50
Good Morning Gerry, The defense held the Ravens to 16 points and the offense couldn't score more than that?  Isn't this league supposed to be "offense-oriented"?
Gerry Dulac
11:51
Not any more, if you've been watching.
Jeff
11:51
Thanks for the chats Gerry.  For the record I am a Tomlin fan but I have one major beef.  Why doesnt he bench guys more often?  Athletes have understood this concept since they starting playing sports.  Underperform, don't follow direction, team disruption would get you a seat next to the coach.  Here we are 13 games in and you still have guys doing all the above.  I understand we are not deep in some positions but at this point who cares.  Make a statement.  Think Bush might start to hit the hole faster or understand where he needs to be if he sat an entire game?  Better chance of that happening than whatever is happening now.  Tomlin talks a good game but that's all it is and I think his players know that
Gerry Dulac
11:52
I agree, but it's not just him, it's most NFL coaches. Of course, I know why -- those players are being paid a lot of money by the owners to play, not be disciplined (unless it's something egregious, of course).

11:52
Can Mark Robinson (or anyone else out there) really not be better that Devin Bush and Dan Moore? These specimens they signed were not good enough to play for the Titans and Jets yet apparently we’re hoping they are better?
Gerry Dulac
11:54
I'm not exactly sure of the references, but apparently the coaches don't think so
The Dude
11:54
Isn’t it obvious from Tomlin’s press conference yesterday that it is time for him to be relieved of his duties? He doesn’t want to answer questions and he doesn’t want to take any responsibility for a bad team performance by a team that he put together.
Gerry Dulac
11:56
And that is different from every other Tuesday press conference.....how?? I hate to tell y'all, he is not an elected official. He does not owe the public an answer, especially when he doesn't give you the answer you want to hear. He is responsible to answer one person's questions and that's Art Rooney II
Tony from London
11:57
Hi Gerry, big fan of your insights. I noticed that two years ago, the Ravens picked guard Ben Wallace in the 3rd round 2 picks after we selected Kendrick. Wallace played a major role on Sunday while Green was a healthy scratch again. How do you see Kendrick's future?
Gerry Dulac
11:57
Tony, as grey as the clouds in London.
Mike
11:57
What are the chances Kenny Pickett is cleared to play this week?  Did he suffer a concussion or just displayed symptoms and was put in to protocol?  Long term concerns since this is the second time in his rookie season it has happened?
Gerry Dulac
12:02
Mike, the chances are no worse or no greater than last time. There is no medical correlation between how a player recovered the first time to how he will recover a second time. I realize concussions are a delicate, hot-button topic -- so do the Steelers are their entire medical staff -- and their actions are scrutinized by every amateur doctor in the sporting world. Long-term concerns are up to the individual. Sidney Crosby had some serious issues with concussions and, last I checked, he's still playing and free of repeat concussions. Let's not get ahead of ourselves here.
And with that kids, we will end the chat. Thanx for the questions.
