Hi Gerry:  Thanks for the chats.  For all the hand ringing, name calling, player and coach deficiencies, bad referee calls, etc., the AFC North teams are separated by one game.  The final winners will come down to key injuries and Covid restrictions.  All the rest is noise.  True?
Gerry Dulac
10:53
And don't forget the tie. That always seems to be a fly in the ointment. But, for the most part, you are correct.

After the Vikings game, BB made a statement it was not his responsibility to deal with Claypool, I disagree!  If you're a team captain, then you should try to correct that type of behavior internally.  That element is what is / has been missing from this team.  Past successful Steelers teams had leaders that would deal with stuff like that - your view?
Gerry Dulac
10:54
If you read between the lines, I think you might understand who's job it is to deal with issues like these when they arrive. And i think you would agree that this issue is not the only one, just the most recent.

How many of the final 4 games do you feel the Steelers will win?
Gerry Dulac
10:54
No more than 2.

Hi Gerry. Seems like these will be the last four games of the Ben era unless they can sneak into the playoffs. Can you tell the team us fans want them to go no-huddle so we can watch Ben chuck it around the yard for old times' sake?
Gerry Dulac
10:55
I'll tell him. If they keep getting behind, you'll get to see him chuck it like he has been.

Do you think Buddy Johnson will get reps, or even start, over Schobert this week?
Gerry Dulac
10:56
Not start. Maybe a few reps. Maybe. But I'll know more after this chat

The media seems to love piling on the Steelers for being mediocre this year. Do you think that's because they've been good for nearly two decades?
Gerry Dulac
10:57
The media? How about you fans?? One win = playoffs. One loss = rebuild. I haven't seen emotional swings like that since I watched "Fatal Attraction."

Two ‘stones’ Tomlin hasn’t turned over are Banner and Davis. Why? If they are still too injured to play, why are they on the active roster?
Gerry Dulac
10:58
You really think they will make a difference. Davis has been hurt all year. And if they thought Banner was ready to play, or a better option, don't you think they would play him. So, according to your logic, if you're not a starter, get rid of them??

In the Ravens game, should have the onside kick by the Tucker been considered offsides?  Tucker stepped in front of the football with his left leg then kicked it with his right leg behind and to the left of his left leg.

Gerry, do you think Mason Rudolph is better than Neil O’Donnell? If so, why not hand Mason the keys to car? If NO can get ‘em to a Bowl, why not MR?
Gerry Dulac
10:59
That has been my feeling.

It seems like any team that adds an extra OLine player gives the Steelers problems.  Wouldn't you think that the coaches would have an adjustment for that considering how often it's happening?
Gerry Dulac
11:00
You would think. Especially when you're using only a three-man line and, most other times, a two-man line.

Who are your Most Suprising and Most-Underwhelming Steelers this season?  I have Dionte Johnson on coming back from a bad season at Most Suprising (close 2nd would be Friermuth), and Chase Claypool is Most Underwhelming.  Would have gone Bush here, but never thought he was that great in the first place.
Gerry Dulac
11:02
Good choices. Most surprising would be Freiermuth, and not because I didn't think he would good. I just didn't think he would have the impact he has so quickly. Most disappointing? I agree -- Claypool, with Alex Highsmith not far behind.

Which steelers player will be "booed" the loudest during player introductions?

Cliff Stoudt

Gerry, is there more to the Steelers poor play than what we really know i.e, not buying into the system, locker room issues, discord with  coaches?  Winning brings out the best and losing brings out issues but at 6-6-1 there is neither.
Gerry Dulac
11:03
Yeah, they don't have much depth and it's being exposed. Their lines of scrimmage are the weakest and biggest liabilities on the team.

Was their really enough time to have another play based on the seconds Claypool may have burned?
Gerry Dulac
11:07
Not like people are making it out to be. It took 17 seconds from the time the ball was snapped on that play until BR intentionally spiked to stop the clock. Part of the delay was caused when the Vikings LB knocked the ball from Claypool's hands as he was headed back to the line. That was the biggest delay after the catch. But it would have allowed for one extra play without all that nonsense.

Love the chats!   I can't wrap my head around why Tomlin just doesn't allow Ben to take over the offense the last four games...from the start. (Most likely his last games as a Steeler).  The defense has challenges and the offense needs to score points from the get-go.  Give Ben the chance to go out with a Bang!   Your thoughts?
Gerry Dulac
11:08
I have thought that for a while, not just now. The guy who has won 66 percent of his starts,  been to 3 Super Bowls and won two, is the fifth leading passer in NFL history, is being hamstrung by the plays of a first-year coordinator who has been in the league just 2 years.

Rodgers and Wilson pipedreams. What if the best FA QB available is................Big Ben?
Gerry Dulac
11:09
Wilson would make sense, not Rodgers. But do you really think the Steelers are going to invest in a free-agent contract like that? Hardly.
Retire21
11:09
I would rather be in the QB position the Steelers are in than Cleve and Balt facing big time second contract decisions on guys who have a lot of doubters now. You?
Gerry Dulac
11:10
Yep. But the Browns and Ravens have no choice but to give those guys a second contract. And why wouldn't the Ravens??

Gary, after reviewing the ALL22, I am again aghast by our special teams play. Even excluding our horrid punting this year, we rank near the bottom of the NFL is all important categories. This has been the case for a lot of Danny Smith's tenure. Is this a talent issue or a coaching issue? Danny Smith needs to focus less on chewing his gum and more on schematics!

Did David DeCastro have the needed ankle surgery last summer--is he at all thinking of coming back next year?
Gerry Dulac
11:11
I'm assuming he did because he had to. And I don't think he has any solid intention of returning, not with the state of his ankle.
