Gainwell has been a steal at $1.8 million this year. And they won't do anything during the season, but I believe they will want to bring him back for next year -- and maybe then some

Steelers lose and the Rwcens win this weekend makes week 17 completely irrelevant, right
Gerry Dulac
10:23
Wrong

Cleary Aaron Rodgers arm is still as strong as ever as well as his precision so why aren't more plays being called for deeper passes (ex. DK vs. Miami)?  With added maturity in the receiver corps I believe we can have more success and would open up the game early.
Gerry Dulac
10:24
I think you saw that in Baltimore and more medium routes vs. Miami

Hi Gerry - do you think Steeler fans appreciate how good JPJ is becoming? Gives up very few passes, gets some breakups and his tackling has been better. What are you seeing with his play?
Gerry Dulac
10:25
I agree, but I also see a guy who still gets penalized a lot. Then again, I see that from a lot of DBs in the league. The amount of grabbing and holding that goes on is epidemic.

Good morning Gerry.  The offense looked so different with MVS and Thielan in as WR 2 and 4.   Will this guarantee that moving forward we will be more attentive to a quality wr2 instead of hoping lesser quality receivers can make the leap?
Gerry Dulac
10:27
No, because I think they are already attentive, and have been, to the quality of a No. 2 receiver. It's not as though they haven't tried to land one the past couple years, even this year.

Well Gerry no reason to stop being optimistic.  I truly believe the Steelers finally have a quarterback to play in December and hopefully beyond.  He also has position players he can be comfortable with.  Detroit is going to be tough, offense can score a lot.  Do you see a need to score with them game plan, aggressiveness on the offensive side?  I think to win they will have to put up 28 plus is the defense can play the run like they did with the Dolphins and Colts.  As always great work. Let’s get a home playoff game!
Gerry Dulac
10:28
I think the one thing we have seen from the Steelers in road games is the desire (and necessity) to have an aggressive game plan offensively. I don't think that will change in Detroit. No point in living in your fears, right?

Gerry.  Will Allen Lazard be on the team this week?
Gerry Dulac
10:28
No

Gerry. Do you think Roman Wilson and Calvin Austin will both be on this team next year? Also, do you think they will sign Gainwell to a new contract?
Gerry Dulac
10:30
I think they will give KG a new deal. Wilson is already under contract and they are not going to move on from him. And I'm not sure if there is any urgency to re-sign CA3, not after the way he has been used.

Hello Gerry . Thank you for chat as always . When people criticize Tomlin for not winning a playoff game in 8 years , do they realize that we do not have an elite QB that we once did in elite Ben and not declinining and injured Ben in his last few years  ? If Tomlin is making to playoffs and have a winning season with the ragtag group of QBs and different ones every year , who cannot even win a game or two after they leave Pittsburgh , should it not be a reason to give Tomlin credit ? Thank you
Gerry Dulac
10:31
That has always been the main point of the national media narrative

Good morning Gerry.  Say Steelers some how make the playoffs and finally wins a playoff game.  Is that enough result in one year for the fans to rejoice coach Tomlin?  Or the past "failures" suggest blind squirrel finally found a nut?
Gerry Dulac
10:32
Like most fans, it will only be a one-year pass. Then it will be, what have you done for me lately all over again.

Gerry, as great a play as it was for DK to stiff arm Minkah and bull his way into the end zone, maybe that doesn’t happen without the great block from Austin. I doubt George Pickens would have hustled to make that play. That seems to have gone unrecognized, and I just wanted to highlight it here. Greatly enjoy your chats!
Gerry Dulac
10:33
And you are right on both fronts. That was a big block on Minkah by CA3 and probably helped Metcalf to score.

10:33
Gerry, you seem to have a great gauge for the locker room. How would you compare the locker room post Buffalo and post Miami?
Gerry Dulac
10:34
Probably what you would expect. But it wasn't so much about a win and a loss as it was how poorly they played against the Bills and how well they executed their game plan against Miami. It was more disappointment vs. satisfaction

Happy Holoidays Gerry, Watching the game the other night, they have had good offensive performances and scored some points on occasion but you never really got the sense the offense could impose their will or dictate the course of a game. The second half on Monday seemed different, a level of consistency and professionalism in the play calling and passing game that we havent seen from the Steelers in a long time. Did you sense a different vibe around the team or in your respected, professional opinion, was that any different than what we have been seeing or just a good performance against a team that had run out of gas?
Gerry Dulac
10:37
Maybe the Steelers made the Dolphins run out of gas, which can be construed as losing enthusiasm and being deflated. And I disagree about the offensive imposing its will. Four consecutive TD possessions, which hadn't been done since 2018, is a pretty good indicator of imposing what you want to do on the other team. Take a look at AR -- he has been in complete control of that offense the past two games, more so than at any time this season.

Gerry, We’ve added new guys/“outcasts” the last few weeks (Cook, Thielen, MVS), who are starting and contributing. Seem to be some great “under the radar” moves. Outside of injury, do you see any other possible moves or is this likely our ride or die squad?
Gerry Dulac
10:38
Only if there are injuries. After back-to-back wins, I think they are liking what they are seeing.

What are the odds that Aaron Rodgers leads the Steelers to more than one playoff win this postseason?
Gerry Dulac
10:44
Better than they have been since Ben left, that's for sure

Good morning Gerry.  While the last two wins have been great and have improved our chances to make the playoffs, isn't it too early to even think we have a chance to make a significant run in the playoffs?  If we win Sunday against a good team on the road, then maybe optimism is warranted!  At present this team hasn't shown enough to start looking for tickets in February.
Gerry Dulac
10:45
Dave, that's why you always hear me say and write -- let's wait and see how this plays out. I've seen it go both ways, good and bad, over the years. I'll evaluate when it's all over.

Happy holidays! Question. When did this huge transformation happen that an O-line or O-lineman is either good at pass pro or run blocking, but not both? It seems to me that it’s a Steelers thing more than anything and I know some have strengths and weaknesses, but it used to be that you were either good or not. It’s so frustrating and it’s reminding me of the Pirates. Nobody can field AND hit at a high level. I’m tired of hearing how the Steelers can protect Aaron, but they can’t run the ball. This week was much better, but I wouldn’t be shocked at all if we’re talking about this again next Monday!
Gerry Dulac
10:47
That, my friend, is because there are too many people who think they are analysts, and too many analysts who think they are coaches. Their presumptive knowledge is not only frivolous, it's embarrassing.

If they make playoffs, any chance Elliot could be healthy to play?
Gerry Dulac

No

Good morning Gerry, best to you for the holidays. Dumb question but here goes. When the Steelers line up for the tush push and Rodgers does his now famous statue stance would it make sense for him to hit the sideline and add a player to a different position. Maybe a wideout to give the possibility that Heyward throws a pass. Better yet, do we just designate the push and only have 6 sumo players on each side. 😆
Gerry Dulac
10:48
Maybe they have something up their sleeve, eh??

Hi Gerry, assuming Pierre is healthy, is he the starting CB opposite JPJ? If not, who is?
Gerry Dulac
10:48
Yes, and, if not, Samuel, just like Monday night

Have there been more in season adjustments this year than typical?  I don't remember many years where this many changes were made.  The secondary seems to have a new person in 4 our of 5 positions compared to opening day, for instance.
