I'll be honest, I don't pay attention to PFF grades. Never have. I'm not questioning them -- some do -- I just don't care what they say. I only care what the Steelers coaches/management think of their players.

Hey Gerry, love your articles and chats. What’s your assessment of JPJ? I’m starting to get the feeling he’s going to be an Edmunds type player. Not a bust but not a pro bowl player either. He also seems too concerned with jawing at the other team and complaining to the refs between plays. I feel like this affects his focus during games. He made a good play against Brown on that last drive, then spent the entire time between plays yelling at the Eagles huddle. Comes back on the critical third down and Brown has his way with him. I know players need to play with passion, but it’s a fine line. What’s your take on his play this season?

His play has stood out a little more this season for the wrong reason. But I wouldn't compare his pick to Terrell Edmunds. For starters, he wasn't a no.1 pick like Edmunds

I know we were spoiled for nearly 2 decades, watching Ben escape the pocket reset and find open guys down field. Have you ever seen anyone able to get their receivers so wide open as Jackson does now that he has finally learned after seven seasons to do what Ben used to?

A lot of that is because the back end of the defense always has to be worry about Lamar taking off and running.

Most of the blame for the poor construction of the receiving corps has fallen on Omar Khan. I’m sure he was counting on much more out of Roman Wilson though. How much of his complete lack of contribution is injury which could not be predicted, and how much to either lack of ability or lack of desire?

Art Smith seems like a smart guy. What's he trying to set up with the pitch play to Najee? Seems like it usually results in a TFL or worse, like we saw Sunday. But there must be a reason it's in the playbook. What is it?

I see a lot of talk in chats about needing to be bad to draft a future QB.  It looks to me like some franchises tend to draft early every year and don't necessarily hit the QB lottery, while others make success possible in many other ways (i.e. Detroit with Goff).  I'm not sure "tanking" is the viable strategy everyone says it is in the NFL as compared to the NBA etc.  Thoughts?

Yeah, and those franchises that tend to draft early every year are bad franchises. Unless they make a big trade well before the draft with a bad team to get one of their top picks.

Gerry, ESPN is predicting the Steelers will beat the Ravens and Chiefs and lose to the Bengals ending up 12-5.  This was a surprise because they always seem to go against the Steelers.   What do you think?   Merry XMass!

It has been nice to see the Steelers employ a real NFL OC this year, but Arthur Smith's use of personnel is bizarre at best.  Is there any chance the Steelers find an even better OC next year?  One who knows that his best TE is Freiermuth would be nice.
