If they make the playoffs, they deserve it. If they don't make it, they don't deserve it. Very simple.

Gerry, what the heck is it with Paxton Lynch? I find it hard to believe that a QB with the physical tools that he has isn't a better bet than Duck to make a couple of plays. That being said, all props to Duck for his contributions this season. He did  make it interesting.

I'm not going to argue.

Gerry...I haven’t been impressed by our punter...what do you think his chances are of keeping his job next season?
Gerry Dulac
11:14
No better or worse than this season. They will bring in someone to challenge him at camp but they do that every year.

Merry Christmas!  Is the offensive game plan/ scheme mostly the same with Duck at QB as it was with Ben and Rudolph?  I can't really tell that anything has changed to help a limited arm.
Gerry Dulac
11:14
The game plan is not the same for Duck AND Rudolph as it with Ben. No comparison. But it's basically the same for the other two

Is this Buds last season as a Steeler?
Gerry Dulac
11:16
We shall see. I once thought it was, not so sure anymore. I think they will try to find a way to keep him. He is validating what Tomlin and Kevin Colbert and Keith Butler thought all along -- that he is a good player with his best years in front of him.

Is Paxton Lynch a consideration for next years roster given his scout team performance or simply filling a void?
Gerry Dulac
11:16
Probably not, based on what I heard Tomlin say this week about him.

Jerry do the Steelers still view mason as a potential starter in the future or will they be in the market to draft a qb in the next few years?
Gerry Dulac
11:17
I think that's still to be determined. I think Rudolph is like Neil O'Donnell -- you can win with him but he's not Ben.

Happy holidays. Now I’m going to be “that guy” but in regards to the long-term QB situation...Living here in Nashville and getting a heavy dose of Marcus Mariota, would you take him as a reliable backup and then allow him to compete with Mason if Ben isn’t 100% or when he retires? He just might flourish with a team with a winning culture and he can’t possibly demand a huge contract. Thoughts?
Gerry Dulac
11:17
I'm a big Marcus Mariota fan and, yes, I think he would be a fantastic backup.

If the Steelers think they can win with Duck using a limited game plan, it's hard to believe that Paxton Lynch could not execute that same game plan better than Hodges. Is he really that bad in practice?
Gerry Dulac
11:18
No, he's not. If you saw him throw in practice you would wonder why he doesn't play

nix and Switzer have both been designated to return and can start practicing are they eligible to play Sunday? Can see Nix being a huge help in the run game.

As Clark Griswold said to his cousin in Christmas vacation -- "Do you really think it matters Ed?"

Happy Holidays Gerry.  Do you see the Steelers attempting to keep wide receiver Cain or any of the running backs signed due to injuries?  Thanks.
Gerry Dulac

I think Deon Cain and Kerrith Whyte have a good chance to get to training camp with them. They should

Gerry, do you think Mason Rudolph would have won the game Sunday had he stayed healthy? He looked good in the first half, not so much in the second half.

I do

If Ben Roethlisberger did not return next season (and I hope that’s not the case), how would it work for the Steelers salary cap wise?
Gerry Dulac
11:20
They would still have a big hit next year. Just like Antonio Brown this year

Hi Gerry. Welcome "back" and thanks for the chat. I've looked at the tie-breaking procedure (below) and can't figure out why the Titans are ahead of the Steelers. Is it tie-breaker #3 or #4? Thanks

   2. Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the conference.
  3.  Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games, minimum of four.

   5. Strength of schedule.
   6. Best combined ranking among conference teams in points scored and points allowed.

   9. Best net points in all games.
   10. Best net touchdowns in all games.
    11.Coin toss.

It would be strength of victory, but not if the Colts beat the Jaguars on Sunday
Coach
11:21
Good morning and Merry Christmas. Tomlin has done a decent job this year but a 2nd straight December collapse is near. His recent teams have either had an historically bad offense like this year or a mediocre to bad defense who couldnt get off the field when needed. Those things add up to 8-8 records for an average coach but play

I'm not going to argue with you. Salient observation

hi gerry love the chats. what are the odds duck finishes the game? i see him running for his life all afternoon. what say you?
Gerry Dulac
11:23
Only if he gets hurt. Otherwise, I think he's going wire-to-wire, which is why I think you will see a lot of short throws and checkdowns, a  bunch of safe stuff, nothing that can intercepted. If you thought they were conservative before, wait till you see this.

Merry Christmas!  Has the offense changed to accommodate Duck's weak arm or are we just running the same offense as with Ben and Rudolph?  Any roll outs to a short field in the future??
Gerry Dulac
11:23
The offense isn't changing to accommodate Duck's weak arm

Saw the Steelers picked up JT Barrett for the practice squad. Any chance he or Paxton Lynch can be viable backups or future starters for this team?
Gerry Dulac
11:24
None. You got a better chance

Repairing three tendons in Ben’s his elbow? Is this the first we’ve heard of this?

What did you think they did with that type of surgery??

Has Ben started rehabilitating his injured elbow yet?

I realize that the goal every yr in the NFL to win the Super Bowl. But, is it wrong to feel uneasy about this team limping into the playoffs, if they do get in?
