OK, kids, we're going to start our chat in about 10 min
10:59
OK lets get started....Go!!
11:00
I can think of at least one who is available -- Dick LeBeau
Captain Midnight

Gerry, I got the feeling the refs (including the replay ref in NY) got the message to let ‘em play. I’m convinced at least one, if not both Eagle TD passes would have been overturned in the regular season. So my question: do you agree, and do you prefer the games to be called this way, or as they are during the season?
Gerry Dulac
11:01
I think you might be right and I agree -- I prefer it that way. Let 'em play .... within reason of course. Too many ticky-tack calls

What's the scoop on John Mitchell?
Gerry Dulac
11:01
He was probably going to retire this year or next, so maybe it's going to be this year.

11:02
Do  you think the steelers will go free agents to fix there defense because to me if go draft to fix the D the window will close
Gerry Dulac
11:02
They will do both. But, I will say it again, the defense doesn't need a lot of fixing. What needs to be remedied is how to replace Shazier.

11:03
Where are they now.. Bryan Hinkle .. any idea ? Thanks
Gerry Dulac
11:03
Nope. Havent seen him in a couple years. Probably at a beach somewhere. Good dude
Todd - Michigan
11:03
Do you expect them to terminate the Mitchell contract? ..if so, when? Thanks
Gerry Dulac
11:06
If you mean Mike Mitchell, I expect them to release him because of how much he will count against the cap. Of course, they could also ask him to re-do his deal, tho that seems unlikely
Todd - Michigan
11:07
Do you expect them to make Nix and Chickillo an offer to return? What about Moats? Thanks
Gerry Dulac
11:08
I do on Nix and Chickillo for sure. Moats might be able to get a better deal elsewhere, if he chooses.

Is there concern the relationship between Ben and Fichtner will duplicate Ben and Arians?
Gerry Dulac
11:09
And what was wrong with that??
Ron
11:10
Well, I guess the owner has finally defined the 'standard' for us. We all assumed the standard was that anything short of a Lombardi trophy was failure. How wrong we were! The standard is simply something a little to the better of mediocrity and a participation trophy. Maybe the problem starts at the very top. If that's all he expects, it's all he'll every get: a 'decent' showing.
Gerry Dulac
11:10
Ron, that is very well-stated point.

11:10
gerry, what's the scoop with john mitchell? he gone or being promoted to d cord? thanks
Gerry Dulac
11:11
No, they have a defensive coordinator. As I said, it's possible he could retire. But it's also very possible the Steleers could bring in a D-Line assistant to work for one season until Mitchell retires after 2018 seasaon
Todd - Michigan
11:11
Was the Lake departure a surprise and or by choice? ... I’m your opinion Gary... Thanks
Gerry Dulac
11:14
I believe it was by choice, but I'm not naive enough to think it  might not have been encouraged. I don't believe Carnell Lake was any problem, tho. He didn't deserve to be let go, if that were the case.

Gerry - for our HC to fully “embrace” situational football would AR force a seasoned assistant coach on him that can help in that regard?, tired of us lacking in that dept!
Gerry Dulac
11:14
No.

How many of the other 31 head coaches in the NFL would have made the playoffs this year if they were the coach of the Steelers, given their talent and schedule?  My guess is most of them(20+?).  And if they coached the Steelers against Jacksonville in the playoffs, how many would have won?  My guess is most of them, as the Steelers had in my (granted, completely amateur) opinion more talent than the Jaguars.  What say you?
Gerry Dulac
11:17
They didn't have more defensive talent. They were outplayed and, more important, physically overwhelmed by the Jaguars on both lines of scrimmage.  To your other point, maybe Mike Mularkey. He beat Jax twice this year w Tennessee.

11:17
gerry, much has been made about fixng the defense but wouldn’t it be easier to fix unforced mental errors that lead turnovers?  were it not for those, we may have had home field advantage throughout  the playoffs or beaten the jags in the playoffs.
Gerry Dulac
11:18
Mental mistakes and bad fundamentals hurt the Steelers as much as anything this year. And the coaches know it. The solution: Get more fundamentally sound players who can think on their feet

Is the rumors true about the steelers looking to replace john mitchell
Gerry Dulac
11:19
Nobody said they are looking to replace him as though he is the problem. As I said, they could be bringing someone in to work under Mitch for a year until he retires after 2018. Do not read this as a problem with JM

I really hope they don't sign Bell. I don't think he fits the Steelers and will stick it to them before long. Selfish me firster. They need an ilb and a safety far more than a rb. Defense wins sbs. I'm still not confident they are secure enough at cb but I would hope a draft pick or FA would get that done. I drool at what this team could have done with a better than average defense.
Gerry Dulac
11:21
I agree with your first premise about Bell but I stopped reading your question/hypothesis when you said defense wins Super Bowls. Did you watch the postseason? Point up one game since the divisional round where the defense won the game? Defenses were non-existent. It was all about offense.

Jerry, don't you think Ben should sign a reasonable 3 year deal, take over leadership of this team and move them forward both on and off the field? He wears the C on his jersey, has many years of experience and wanted more control. MT's comments only go so far. This team needs a leader to get them focused and minimize the drama.
Gerry Dulac
11:22
That sure sounds nice on paper, or the script for a good movie
Joel for the defense
11:22
What would the Steelers have to get back in a trade for M. Bryant to make it work in your opinion if they were to try and trade him?
Gerry Dulac
11:23
They probably wouldnt get anything more than a 4th rd pick. He's a huge risk factor, considering his suspension issues
ryanh
11:23
do you think the steelers let bell walk and just pair conor wit a change of pace back i think thats the way to go
Gerry Dulac
11:23
They won't let him walk. And they are not prepared to think James Conner can be a No. 1 back

Steelers typically don't make huge panic changes. So assuming they make only one key signing this offseason, what position do you think they focus on before the draft?
