OK, kids, we're going to start our chat in just a few minutes. Get those questions ready....

OK, here we go....

Hi Gerry. What I've been reading I think Coach Tomlin didn't agree on some of the picks. Your Thoughts. Thanks
Gerry Dulac

I don't know where you've been reading, but I suggest you stop reading that person

Hi Gerry, maybe the Steelers didn't want to take an inside linebacker high in the draft thinking Ryan S will be back next year. In my opinion it didn't look like Ryan will be ready to play football next year and even if he is would he be mentally ready to play knowing one hit could maybe mess up the rest of his life. Your thoughts. Thanks
Gerry Dulac
11:00
You are full of misinformation. Ryan Shazier will not be back next year and their intention was to take Alabama ILB Rashaan Evans with the first pick, if he were available. But he wasnt

Your golf buddy Mike Wagner is one of my favorite players ever.  I always thought he was one of the smartest players (and tough) I have ever seen play.  In your opinion who was/is the smartest player you have seen?
Gerry Dulac
11:01
Josh Dobbs, who once recited the number for pi off by heart. That's smart.
Mike is second

Do you think there is a changing trend in how GM's value/use draft picks?  I see teams like the Rams, Eagles and Patriots using draft picks like currency while other GMS like Ted Thompson and Kevin Colbert limiting themselves to the draft pick they have.
Gerry Dulac
11:02
I don't think it's changing. I think there has always been different approaches.

I don't want to sound like a spoiled fan...but I think the Steelers should consider tinkering with their approach to constructing their roster. To me, they are too conservative in not trading up/down in the draft, and their approach of resigning their own free agents has led to years of limited salary cap/free agency flexibility. After all, the Patriots have been more successful than the Steelers in the FA era, and they are much more aggressive in the way they acquire talent. Is the Steelers approach dictated by Rooney? Colbert? Organizational ethos?
Gerry Dulac

Those years of limited salary-cap space that you refer to just might be result of the Steelers doing something better than maybe every team in the league -- keeping their core players and stars. It really is hard to argue with their approach because of their success over all these years. A horrible year for them is 8-8. Half the teams in the league would like to be 8-8. They may not be perfect and there are going to be some mistakes. But, all in all, over the long hail, their approach is better than just about every team in the league. Except NE for the past decade

Hi Gerry, the Steelers always say they build through the draft. Well, they have not had a draft that produced more than two starters since 2010 and they have missed on all of their recent first round picks except Shazier.
Gerry Dulac
11:08
Really? They got three starters out of their 2015 draft -- Artie Burns, Sean Davis and Javon Hargrave. And I wouldn't call Cam Heyward and David DeCastro, a pair of All-Pros, misses

Hi, why is Chris Boswell still unsigned?
Gerry Dulac
11:09
I'm not sure. But they have been wanting to get a long-term deal for him since last year and not sure why that hasn't happened.

Since the Steelers Missed out on MLB and cut J.J. Wilcox are the steelers looking to add another inside linebacker? Gerald Hodges, Perry Riley maybe?
Gerry Dulac
11:09
No. Not right now.

Guys who should take notice after the draft, aside from the QBs? Daniel McCullers? Jerald Hawkins?
Gerry Dulac
11:10
McCullers. Sensabaugh. Fitz Toussaint.

I’m really hoping they have a genius plan on how to deploy this rookie class into the defense immediately. They obviously need to improve in run defense and man to man coverage. The defense is holding us back!
Gerry Dulac
11:10
That's what we're going to find out

Unfortunately we are stuck with two mediocre ILB starters, one of which has not been able to stay healthy and we have almost no depth beyond that. We appear to be in big trouble if we lose even one starter at ILB. I’m hoping the Steelers have a plan because free agency nor the draft addressed this problem.
Gerry Dulac
11:12
Well, the draft certainly didn't, and that's where I had a problem with it. Jon Bostic is just a guy -- not bad, but not a game-changer or difference-maker. And that's all there is behind him -- a bunch of guys. No young player who can develop into a starter

11:13
Good Morning Gerry, Do you think The Steelers will sign another veteran ILB, and if you do, when do you think they'll do it?
Gerry Dulac
11:13
I don't think they are going to sign anyone who is going to make a difference, not if they stick to their free-agent philosophy
Fineline

In Feb. Rooney said the defense was soft vs the run and they needed to add players. Then they draft 3 offensive guys among the the first 4 picks. They were physically dominated by Jax twice last year. I don’t see how adding 2 safeties helps in that regard. Tell me how this defense is better.
Gerry Dulac
11:14
I can't. I agree. We'll have to wait and see.
Ike Steelheart
11:14
Which roster do you like more, this one after the draft and FA or the one that lost that playoff game vs The Jaguars?
Gerry Dulac
11:14
This one of course
Ike Steelheart
11:14
NE was close to win another SB even with its defense. Steelers were 13-3 with this defense. Do you still consider The Steelers strong contenders for the 2018 season?
Gerry Dulac
11:15
Absolutely. Hey, just like Oakland last season, let's see the Jaguars do it again. There are a lot of one-hit wonders around the league. I want to see teams who can do it back-to-back-to-back. That's the key

11:15
What's the reasoning for cutting Wilcox so soon? What if both safeties get injured day one?
Gerry Dulac
11:16
Cause he makes too much money and too many mistakes
Lucky Bob

The pessimists think that we could have picked Edmunds in the 3rd round and that we should have taken Reid or Harrison. Those guys ACTUALLY WERE 3RD ROUNDERS. I read one report that said he was "rising up draft boards late in the process". Isn't that just draftnik speak for "We didn't realize the NFL guys like this guy until it was too late to grade him correctly"?
Gerry Dulac
11:16
Bingo. Pay the man
SteelersFanInNewEngland
11:16
What is the timetable on seeing free agents getting signed? Thinking Timmons to add depth.
Gerry Dulac
11:16
I thought that was a no-brainer.

Makes sense to put Dobbs on the practice squad. Is this a sure thing or does he get put on waivers first then if not signed, can go to practice squad.
