Gerry Dulac

OK kids, we will start our chat from Saint Vincent College in just a few minutes.....
11:55
Ok, here we go....
Scott
11:56
Gerry, How much improvement do you expect from the OL? Daniels is clearly an upgrade over Turner but that is the only position that looks to be significantly better. Cole is no superstar and the rest is basically the same.
Gerry Dulac
11:56
Scott, that's what we're going to find out. But, let's face it, the line can't be much worse that what we witnessed last year.
Lou

Hey Gerry!  What's your take on George Pickens? I have this feeling he might be really awesome. Does he come in right away and blow it up like Claypool did in his first season?  Does he come in and draw attention and make it so suddenly DJ is doing things like Juju did while AB was here?
Gerry Dulac
11:57
I think you're feeling might be right. And you're not the only one who feels that. Some of the players and coaches do too.
Dr. Lou
11:57
Your thoughts on the competition for starting quarterback.  Thanks.
Gerry Dulac
11:57
I think Mitch Trubisky will be your starter
KW
11:57
Gerry, Thanks for the chats.  Now that Ben has retired, who takes over as Captain on offense?
Gerry Dulac
11:58
I got a feeling it will be Najee Harris. They're already force-feeding him as a "leader."
Bernard
11:58
If you were chosen to replace Ed B for HoF rep, which Steelers player currently eligible would you feel most deserving for induction?
Gerry Dulac
11:58
L.C. Greenwood
Steelers Fanatic

Hey Gerry, now that Steelers camp has opened, we hope to see some progress in resolving the competition issues in the defensive secondary and at quarterback.  Will the early practices yield any information on who is winning the battles, or must we wait for the preseason games to play out?
Gerry Dulac
11:59
I think you have to at least wait until they put the pads on, which is next week. Then the games.
Ken
11:59
Will Myles Jack help the run defense?
Gerry Dulac
11:59
He should...if he can stay healthy

Thanks for the chats Gerry. From your vantage point, why did Matt Canada's offensive system fail last season and what has Coach Tomlin done to fix the problem(s)?
Gerry Dulac
11:59
That
12:00
Ooops...that's what we're going to find out. To me, it's one of the biggest issues facing them this season. What we witnessed last season was not very good, but Mike Tomlin has stood behind him and obviously believes in what he wants to do.
Bill from California

This yrs team any better than last yr
Gerry Dulac
12:00
We'll find out
Ken

Will Myles Jack help the run defense the last guy they got from Jacksonville didn't
Gerry Dulac
12:01
Haha. I think so. At least, they better hope so.

do you think the Steelers trade DJ before the start of the season
Gerry Dulac
12:01
Of course not
Jersey JR
12:01
How much rope will they give Devin Bush before he gets pulled. His performance last year was really bad and he can’t be a weak link again.
Gerry Dulac
12:02
I think he will get plenty of rope. I'm willing to give him a second chance after coming off an ACL injury last year. Still doesn't mean I think he will be a Pro Bowl-caliber player.
Robert Lehman in Yorktown, VA

What is a realistic expectation in terms of the Steelers defensive improvement against the opposing offenses run game for the upcoming season? Obviously that can't do much worse. Just how much better?
Gerry Dulac
12:03
That's true -- can't be any worse. Four 200-yard games. Most 20-yard runs allowed. It will be a big point of emphasis in camp. Maybe their outside rushers should worry less about sacks and more about stopping the run. That would help
Retire 21

Happens every year. Happened last year with RIvers. A QB for a contending team goes down in training camp or early preseason. Media reaches out to recently and maybe reluctantly retired Big Ben. "Are you saying there's a chance?" he might be interested?
Gerry Dulac
12:04
I'm saying he's not.

Hello Gerry, Was Adrian Klemm's departure, followed by Morgan's, indicative of friction within the coaching staff?  Yes, everyone leaves jobs for new opportunities, but disillusionment with one's work environment or differences in philosophy can be motivating factors to leave.
Gerry Dulac
12:05
Now there's a perceptive fella.

Mr. Dulac... greetings. I feel like people are itching to see their number one draft pick play as soon as possible. I, for one, feel a good problem to have two capable, talented players who are on the right side of Father Time. I am excited to see what Trubisky can do. Where do you stand?
Gerry Dulac
12:07
There's no question everyone wants to see Kenny Pickett play, thinking he's the next Ben Roethlisberger. But there's a reason they signed Mitch Trubisky and I'm eager to see how he fits as well. I know this, though -- Trubisky in a tough spot. The minute he struggles, everyone will be hollering for Pickett.

Hi Gerry- do you think the Steelers offensive line will be incrementally better or significantly better with the additions they made in free agency?

I think they are in good shape if everyone stays health at WR, TE, and RB1. QB is TBD
Gerry Dulac
12:07
I think they should be better, especially with Green at guard and the addition of Daniels.
Tprod
12:08
Gerry, who will wear the green dot?
Gerry Dulac
12:08
Several people. Probably Myles Jack. Maybe Spillane

Hi Gerry - I think the Steelers have quality starters and Depth on the DL and secondary and quality starters at LB (if Devin Bush returns to pre-injury form) along with quality coaching. Am I too optimistic or is the defense in good shape in both starters and depth going into training camp?
