What has happened to Mike Hilton? He seems to be making mistakes in coverage that we did not see last season.
Gerry Dulac
11:16
I don't have a problem w Mike Hilton
Rooney
11:16
List 3 things Rooney should do to help this situation?
Gerry Dulac
11:18
1) Tell the offense to score even more points. 2) Tell the defense to allow fewer points. 3) Read out chat to get some really good suggestions.

Jesse James or Vance Mc Donald? It seems both are playing well
Gerry Dulac
11:20
Jesse James definitely is. KC's Travis Kelce had 7 catches for 109 yards on Sunday and he wasn't the most productive tight end on the field. The Outlaw was w four catches of 20+ yards and a TD. Vance McDonald is just back on the field. I'll hold off on his applause.

Game 1: Defense plays well, and you can't blame them for the TD when first goal after the turnover, so they basically give up 14 points.  O is terrible with six turnovers.  Game 2: Offense puts up five TDs, and team scores 37 total.  D is terrible, making young QB look like Brady or Peyton in his prime.  So, we have seen one good game on each side of the ball and one terrible game.  Who is this team?
Gerry Dulac
11:21
Give it a few more games and we'll see. I think it's going to be more No. 2 than No. 1
Bob
11:21
All of the miscommunication errors on D... Is the system too hard to understand or are the Steelers choosing players who well... just don't have the mental ability. Becuase we continue to hear the same excuses about miscommunications
Gerry Dulac
11:23
I think you used the operative word -- excuses. I will say this, 5 of their 11 defensive starters are either new or in new positions (Davis, Burnett, Bostic, Dupree, Watt) so there is a little bit of a transition issue at work. It might take them a little more time to get accustomed to their role and each other.

Where were all the blitzes this week? It seems Pitt rushed 4 nearly every time. Why not get after it?
Gerry Dulac
11:25
I'm not sure that would have worked as fast as Mahomes got rid of the ball. But, to your point, if that's the case, then how did those 7 players in coverage allow so many wide-open receivers???

Hi Gerry-As we all know, these defensive problems are not new. Doesn’t it seem like they should try someone else personnel & coaching wise at some point? It couldn’t be worse than the last 2 home games.
Gerry Dulac
11:25
Well, they have two new defensive coaches and five "new" starters on defense. I would say that's trying something else

11:26
Would you please explain the logic of using only 2 DLs on over 80% of the defensive plays. No pass rush = no defense.
Gerry Dulac
11:27
They use their LBs or even a safety to rush in those sub packages, usually always bringing four. I will point up they had seven sacks just one game ago.

Hi Gerry, thanks for the chats. I heard that if a "kick" after a safety goes out of bounds its a 30 yard penalty. If so, that's huge. It looks like Switzer had to save that ball from going out.  Any insight on this? Thanks?
Gerry Dulac
11:27
I have none. I'll have to check
BigEd71
11:27
On defense, is it lack of talent? Coaching? Or a little of both?
Gerry Dulac
11:27
It's a lack of playmakers and LBs.

At this point, is the most likely scenario that Bell sits until week 10?
Gerry Dulac
11:27
That is most likely.

Do you foresee the team working out any outsiders for pass rush help?
Gerry Dulac
11:28
No. But I would like to see Ola Adeniyi come off IR
Harold
11:28
Should Edmunds be starting over Burnett? It seems that Burnett is older and slower than Edmunds and offers nothing more than Mitchell did last year.
Gerry Dulac
11:29
I think Edmunds is still learning what to do, especially because Burnett is being used at four different positions in a game. Eventually he will be the starter

Why doesn't Butler's game calling get called out?  When players do not know their assignments something is amiss.  If Tomlin needs to be calling plays then does not say much for Butler.
Gerry Dulac
11:29
Oh, I think it does. But maybe all the blame shouldn't be on Butler.

Ego is what makes some guys like Brown and Bell as good as they are.  Wouldn't a hefty fine be enough for Brown to get the message?  Inactive would hurt the team too much.
Gerry Dulac
11:33
No, fines don't do anything. What's $25,000 to a guy who makes millions? If you want to get his attention, or any athlete's attention, the only way to punish them and get the message across is to take away the most precious thing they have -- playing time. The last thing any teammate wants to do is let down the other guys on offense or defense. He will do that by being suspended or deactivated.

Despite the team's defensive woes, is it worth pointing out that drafting at the bottom of the first round year in/year out is a crapshoot for most teams (ie. NE, SEA, etc) and not just PIT?
Gerry Dulac
11:34
Absolutely. The Steelers don't typically get the chance to draft a top-tier player, let alone an elite one like the Browns have had countless chances to do. Ben was the last high pick (at No. 11) they've had, which is a good thing because it means you've been having success. The Steelers have done a really good job with No. 1 picks when you consider where they have picking in the draft.

Any chance Haden plays this week? Tampa throws and throws and throws

yes

gerry, how long did it take you to realize you no longer wanted antonio on your radio show and decided it was much better to get someone much more reliable, in tuitt? thx
Gerry Dulac
11:35
I don't make that decision.

do you think brown will be inactive for the game monday?
Gerry Dulac
11:36
Not sure. I know what I'd do

Bench Burns like Taylor was benched in 2006 until his play improves? Seems like a good move to me. What do you think?
Gerry Dulac
11:36
Never thought of that.
