Hoops Rumors' Live NBA Draft Chat - 2018
powered byJotCast
Austin Kent
6:43
That's fair. He may not be a major home run swing but I honestly don't think you can get away with anybody but Ayton at No. 1.
Daffy
6:44
Has talk of Memphis making #4 available in a Parsons salary dump cooled off?
Austin Kent
6:45
Sacramento grabs Marvin Bagley III, as Shams suggested. Any loyal Kings fans here? Curious to get some thoughts there.
6:46
(Also, there's a Woj trade that's been announced. I'm inclined to keep this chat in line with the ESPN broadcast though. When they cover it, we'll cover it.)
Evan
6:46
Kings fan. Love Bagley. Hate Bagley in Kong’s uniform
Trae Young
6:47
My shorts look awful.
Matt
6:47
If the 76ers offer Saric to Kings do they give up Begley Jr. And so on? Any Trades tonight not involving Picks?
Austin Kent
6:47
I don't know that they would. I think the Kings are pretty dialed in on landing a potential star.
6:49
Okay, trade time. Woj (on TV) is saying that the Hawks and Mavs are swapping No. 3 and No. 5. The Hawks will pick Doncic and flip him to Dallas, so long as Trae Young is available. The Hawks will land a future first for their trouble.
D
6:49
Kings fan here,. Sentiment is Sac is we wanted Doncic
Bryan
6:49
So with the Mavs going Doncic and the Hawks going for Trae where does Orlando go?
Austin Kent
6:51
That's the question. I guess suddenly Mo Bamba could be in play.
Matt
6:51
Would think JJJ to Memphis at 4, and Bamba to ORL at 6?
Bryan
6:52
How does Bamba fit with Gordan, Isaac, Biyombo et al.?
Austin Kent
6:53
He's another long, malleable, raw athlete. Not sure how excited I'd be with that as a Magic fan, but I think he could be the highest value asset.
Ooh, re: the Hawks/Mavs trade, ESPN's Tim MacMahon is tweeting that the future first pick would have "minimal" protection.
John
6:54
Wizards make a big move tonight?
Austin Kent
6:55
A big move? I don't know. They're looking to unload Marcin Gortat but are unwilling to move the No. 15 to do so (https://www.hoopsrumors.com/2018/06/wizards-looking-to-trade-marcin-go...)
Eric
6:55
Trae Young plus Dennis Schroder? Will that work?
Austin Kent
6:55
I think we could see Dennis Schroder on the move.
6:56
Memphis cooperates and draft Jaren Jackson Jr.
If they hang on to him, I think they could get value out of him in the short-term while also grooming him as a Marc Gasol eventual replacement.
Luka Doncic
6:56
I'm nervous that I don't have an NBA body.
Austin Kent
6:57
Here's another good question for everybody in here. Will Doncic's perceived lack of athleticism hurt his NBA ceiling?
Doc
6:58
Is Cuban crazy for giving up a future 1st for Doncic, given the depth of this draft?
Austin Kent
7:00
That's steep but Marc Cuban is nothing if not bold. The pick looks like it's going to be top 1-5 protected. I think Doncic has the ceiling to justify giving up a future 6+ pick.
7:01
Dallas just officially drafted Young, so that pick will go through. Which means Orlando is on the  clock at No. 6.
TL1234
7:01
How about Trae Young being traded again to Orlando for another future 1st an there pick?
Austin Kent
7:02
I don't know if I'd give up a future first to move from Bamba (who is still available) to Young. That said, as we briefly touched on before, Bamba is another raw player that will be joining a team already waiting on Jonathan Isaac.
Ted
7:02
Why does Atlanta want Trae Young over Mo Bamba.. shortest wingspan vs. longest.
Austin Kent
7:03
This is an interesting storyline. I think the future first pick could have been the driving force here. I think Schlenk is taking a particular asset-focused approach to his rebuild in Atlanta.
7:04
There's things to think about too, like adding a player with star power, which Young has. Bamba could be a more impactful NBA player, but Young would probably keep fans more engaged as they continue down this "process-ish" path. That's something Philly didn't have when they were accumulating assets.
L’ol Perfesser
7:04
And Young is more marketable than Doncic because people have seen him play.
Austin Kent
7:05
The Magic just made the Bamba pick official.
Bulls are on the clock now at 7. Do they go with Wendell Carter Jr.? Michael Porter Jr.?
7:06
Do you guys think Michael Porter Jr. could fit alongside Lauri Markkanen?
Jeremy
7:07
now that the mavs are getting doncic, what does this mean for dennis smith jr? he's probably going to play off the ball more, but he strikes me as a ball dominant guy
Austin Kent
7:08
It will be interesting to see this develop. I think it could work. I like the idea of DSJ pushing things in transition with half-court sets going through Doncic and DSJ working off the ball.
Ted
7:08
I do think Porter could play along Markkanen.. it'd be rough for a while but those two could grow together.
7:10
Anybody else wish we could do away with all the "Jr's" and "III's" and just call the players by their names?
