While I think he would be open to moving Phil, I don't think he will. The summer is more likely. Maybe a depth defenseman or forward ... or both if they're cheap. That's it.

If you had to choose between Craig Adams, Matt Cooke, or Billy Tibbets, which one would you save? None is also a choice.
Jason Mackey
2:53
Save from what?

Where do you think Panarin and Duchene end up?
Jason Mackey
2:54
I actually think Panarin ends up staying. I think Duchene ends up in Winnipeg.

Why do GMJR and HCMS hate Jarry so much?   Both of the goalies now are giving up 3-4-5 goals each game.   Yes, the defense is bad, but the last goal Murray gave up against the Devils was atrocious.    What would it hurt to give Jarry just one start?   I'm not even suggesting he has to be the regular #2, but just a spot start in relief while the top two are struggling.
Jason Mackey
2:55
I don't think they have anything against Jarry, but I don't think they're as high on him as you are. I think they view him as a clear No. 3. Giving him a "spot start," as you mentioned would only probably screw up DeSmith ... and potentially their roster given how they handled it cap-wise. And for what? If he plays well, do you carry three goalies?

I can't wrap my head around why Sully keeps throwing Malkin and Kessel together on a line. He talks about playing the right way, but those two together just turn into even-strength punching bags. They look about as good together at 5v5 now as they did 2-3 years ago - that is, they score some but spend a ton of time chasing pucks in their own end. What exactly is it that Sully loves about that duo?
Jason Mackey
2:56
I think he likes the possibility that they can very, very good offensively when they're both going. They're also trying to get Phil going. I thought that line has actually been very good recently. I don't have a problem with it.

Jason, I'm concerned about the Pens' speed. It has decreased dramatically and it's the thing IMHO that separated them in 16-17. Now, Hagelin goes to the Caps. Should I be freaking out about this?
Jason Mackey
2:56
No, you should not. If Carl Hagelin tips the scales that much, they weren't that good to begin with.

Would you rather fight a Zdeno Chara sized Bobby Farnham, or a Bobby Farnham sized Zdeno Chara?
Jason Mackey
2:57
A Bobby Farnham-sized Zdeno Chara. Although a Zdeno Chara-sized Bobby Farnham would be one hell of a spectacle.

Hello?

Hello.

Is Murray wearing his catching glove on the wrong hand?
Jason Mackey

Good one.

I am aware this is OLD news and a bit of an annoying topic. But when you interviewed Brassard and he was explaining from his point of view why it didn’t work on his end (star power, not enough ice time, line changes) do you think the pens players were a bit irritated with his statements? And the fact he seemed to play all of the aforemenitioned things instead of himself?
Jason Mackey
2:58
Love the intro to this question ... I don't know if the Penguins even read it, to be honest with you. I doubt the Penguins included it in their clips, which is how players read things about themselves. I'm not sure if many of them cared what Brassard had to say good, bad or indifferent.

Hi Jason, hope you are swell sweetie. I love JJ, but everyone likes to point out his negatives. What would you say are his positives?
Jason Mackey
2:59
I think he's been good in a physical sense. He has delivered several big hits and has no problem throwing his body around. When he's not throwing guys into Penguins goaltenders, he's done a pretty good job clearing the front of the net. And I do like him on the penalty kill. ... As I've said, if they're sheltering him a little, he's fine, not the eyesore people have made him out to be.

If the moon was made of bbq spare ribs, would Maatta still be slow?
Jason Mackey

I feel like his speed has actually improved a little this season. And c'mon, we're gonna pick on the injured kid?

If players had goal songs after they scored, what songs do you think Sid, Geno, Phil, and Letang would pick? What would yours be?
Jason Mackey
3:01
Mine would be the Grateful Dead -- Franklin's Tower, I think. Although Scarlet Begonias would have to be in the running. Something upbeat, for sure. ... I'm so uncool, I couldn't even begin to tell you on those three.

Seriously why all the angst over Hags going to the Caps...loved when he was here, but that level of player can be swapped in and out at anytime.
Jason Mackey
3:01
Agree with this.

Are there too many outdoor games now?   Enough already.   The novelty has worn off.
Jason Mackey
3:01
I think so. The NHL ruined a cool thing by having approximately 1,576 of them in about four years.
Kevin

Are there any elite college free agents a la Jimmy Vesey, Will Butcher or ZAR the Penguins could be in on?
Jason Mackey
3:02
I'm sorry, Kevin. I haven't had time to pay the proper amount of attention to this. After the trade deadline ...
Casey

In the locker room, how much blame is the defense really taking for the number of goals being scored against? The gut reaction to a goal being scored is that its on the defense, but how many times have we seen the forwards simply lose track of opponents in the d-zone, or get caught too low in the o-zone?
Jason Mackey
3:03
I don't think anyone is blaming one group more than another. It's on all of them. When they've struggled, the defensemen have been bad; the forwards have been lazy tracking back; and the goaltending hasn't been good enough. I don't think anyone is looking at it like ______ is letting us down.

Just as an FYI since someone brought it up...the ASU goaltender, Joey D'Accord isn't a free agent. He was drafted by Ottawa, and he's only a junior. The guy to keep an eye on in the next couple of years at ASU is Johnny Walker. He was undrafted, and he is currently leading the country in goals scored. He's only a sophomore, though, and given that he grew up in Phoenix, I would be shocked if the Yotes didn't try to sign him when he is ready.

This has been your update from a displaced yinzer in the desert. We now return you to your regularly scheduled local Pens angst.
Jason Mackey

Right. Johnny Walker. And his brothers Black and Red.

I hope you all can move on from Jack Johnson questions.

I hope so, too.

Is it being an internet tough guy if you got sick of constantly watching Scuderi clear the puck off the glass for no reason?
Jason Mackey
3:05
Yes, I think it is.

Hi Jason, what's your favorite version of Kane and why is it his 2003 run?
