Because that was great. (Sidebar: I have no idea what the heck you're talking about.)

Is Pittsburgh (with the Penguins) still interested in bring the World Juniors to town?
Jason Mackey
3:05
I believe so, yes, but I don't think it's realistic.

Have you ever sat down with a member of the team and asked them to explain to you why your evaluation of a player isn't the same as theirs? I think you're missing a lot of what Simon does well, given you think Sullivan liking him is weird. Have you ever tried to figure out what they see that you don't?
Jason Mackey
3:06
Simon has three goals in his past 35 games while taking a shot of shifts with Crosby and Malkin. What exactly could they explain to me that I'm missing here?

All this talk of defensive intensity/commitment seems off to me. How much off their defensive issues are purely talent related? effort issues might pop up in spots. But I'd argue their defensive problems are mostly because outside of Letang/dumo they aren't nearly good enough. Especially with Maatta and Schultz never really being in the line-up at the same time. They have a ton of 6/7/AHL d-men.
Jason Mackey
3:07
Eh, I disagree with that. I think they are good enough. How else to explain the fact that they've actually been pretty good at times. Luck? I don't know about that. On paper, I think this D corps is perfectly capable.

Did Rossi ever go sell Ice Cream?
Jason Mackey
3:08
He might have. I think probably when he was younger, as his parents own the Dairy Queen on Banksville Rd. -- my local Dairy Queen.

Not sure which is worse: seeing Max Talbot playing for the Flyers or Hagelin playing for the caps
Jason Mackey
3:08
It's definitely going to be weird.

Any chance my early 1990s hair returns to fashion? Was Jagrs mullet the worst hair ever sported by a professional athlete?
Jason Mackey

Get out of this chat right now if you're going to talk such ridiculousness.

Why do fans constantly overrate players like Cole, Hags, and Bonino?
Jason Mackey
3:09
Because players ALWAYS get better the moment they leave Pittsburgh. Always.

For an actual question...people have brought up Hagelin's retained salary. When I team retains part of a traded player's salary, do they send payment to his new team to include in his pay, or do they pay the player directly? Always wondered about that.
Jason Mackey
3:10
I honestly don't know. That's a good one. My guess is they pay the acquiring team, and the acquiring team pays the player. But I can't say I know that for sure.

Hey Jason, do actually think JJ is as bad as everyone says he is. Or is he just the worst on the team overall. I like to imagine he's pretty good compared to the rest of the league.
Jason Mackey
3:11
I think he's been fine. I agree with Rutherford. I don't think he's as bad as people have made him out to be. That said, I disagree with Jim in saying that the media has been unfair or overly harsh. We haven't been that at all.

Why isnt Bryan Rust getting some rest before the game?
Jason Mackey

Good question.

Daniel Sprong has been healthy scratched a few times in Anaheim now, despite Anaheim needing scoring. Even when he plays, it’s with his signature lackluster laziness outside of wanting fed a 1 timer. Considering every other young player to come through Sullivan at the NHL level has had some success (Rust, Sheary, Wilson, Simon, Guentzel, ZAR etc) - is it safe to now say he might actually know how to handle young players more than fans who just wanted to give Sprong to Crosby?
Jason Mackey
3:12
I don't know. I'm not going to take any shots at people who liked Sprong. I liked him, thought he should have been given more of a chance and think that one day he'll be a very good player. But I do think Sullivan had more of an idea with this than people wanted to admit.

Did Florida ever use Bjugstad on the Powerplay? I'm not sure what kind of hands he has, but with his size, what about putting him in front of the net on the PP?
Jason Mackey
3:12
He's not really that type of player, though. I think he's been very good in the left circle the way the Penguins have used him. And yes, Florida did.

Who was more overrated, Cole, Hagelin, or Bonino?
Jason Mackey
3:13
I think Bonino benefitted the most from his role. It's hard to pick truly "overrated."

Kessel’s poor defensive play was acceptable when he was producing on offense, but his defensive attention to detail and lack of effort have further eroded while his offensive play has been mediocre. How long will Sullivan accept this?
Jason Mackey
3:13
Kessel is in no danger whatsoever of losing his lineup spot, trust me.

so who replaced Brassard in the airplane card games with Kessel, Malkin and Legang :)
Jason Mackey

It's a very good question. Need to find that out.

Both the Pens & Flyers have off days on Sunday & Monday so it seems like the NHL made contingency plans in case they have to move the game to Sunday
Jason Mackey
3:14
Yeah, that much is clear. It'll be moved to Sunday if it's unplayable Saturday. I just don't know if it'll be afternoon or evening.
Dave
3:15
Sounds like the weather will be a factor in the Philly game. Does the NHL have contingency plans if game can't be played at site?
Jason Mackey
3:15
It would be moved to Sunday, I believe.

It just seems Coachs have players that frustratingly are given far more opportunities that the fans or even professional observers can understand. This is obviously the case with Simon vs Bleuger, and to a lesser extent Wilson. Sullivan has won 2 Cups and is a very good Coach, but other than wins and losses, when is he made responsible if these decisions cost a playoff entry or a quick exit? Simon's ice time  is so  above his pay grade IMO and Sullivan is a very stubborn man. And his stubbornness may be the reason for his eventual failing,do you agree?
Jason Mackey
3:16
I think you're getting all worked up over nothing. Sullivan is no different than most NHL coaches. Or most coaches period. He's allowed to have guys he likes playing over others.
Bill
3:16
What was Bluger's mistake exactly? Putting his stick down while PK to try and block the shot and it happened to go in the net? If that's why he's benched, then Sullivan has lost it.
Jason Mackey
3:17
I also think Sullivan was looking for a change/spark after the Calgary loss. You're going to disagree with that, I know, but I'm just trying to answer the question.

Jason what changes or ramifications do u think would happen if the Pens were to actually miss the playoffs ?
