Be careful out there today, lots of slippy ice
Jason Mackey
1:28
It's always slippery.

With everyone heathy who do you see as the top 6 dmen come playoff time?
Jason Mackey
1:28
Popular one today: Dumo-Letang ... Johnson-Schultz ... Maatta-Pettersson. ... I could also see them flipping Johnson and Maatta.

every time i think sid has outdone himself, he exceeds my expectations once more. he’s stepped it up this year and seems to be taking it upon himself to drag his team to the playoffs. is that how he’s seen to you? and how does he manage to one up himself every year in a way that so few players do?
Jason Mackey
1:29
Exactly how he's seemed to me. I think this is one of his best seasons. I think he should win the Selke and potentially get Hart Trophy consideration based on how this shakes out. He's been incredible. He works his tail off. He cares so much. He's obviously really good. He's also healthy. And I think he's crazy competitive. It doesn't matter what he has to do. He doesn't want to miss the playoffs.

Have you done laundry this week yet?
Jason Mackey
1:29
I have. Finished it this morning, as a matter of fact. Trip to Columbus tomorrow.

Is the Hornqvist deal starting to look very bad?
Jason Mackey
1:30
I don't think so. He's still doing everything he should be doing. He's a victim of circumstance at the moment. Crosby line has been lights-out. They need to get Phil going. Best way you do that is with Geno. Hornqvist needs to be with one of the big boys but can't right now. Just bide your time. He'll be just fine come playoff time.

Is Flower really a bad "rear end" as shown by his willingness to fight? He's truly one of the best team players I've seen in the game plus a complete class act and not a bad goalie either! As always, thanks for the chat and great Pens coverage...
Jason Mackey
1:31
Flower just wants to fight someone. He'd probably get annihilated. Couple years ago he wanted to fight Peter Budaj, who's like an 18th degree black belt or something crazy.

One statement and one question: Phil gets one tonight. Mark it down. Secondly, how does one get into the equipment management side or hockey ops side of an organization? Dana has my dream job.
Jason Mackey
1:32
I think you just ask if you can do it, then they hire you if you're a big fan. ... No, seriously, you have to start at the bottom rung. Start out working crazy hours for crap money. Prove you want to do it enough to work crazy hours for less crappy money. Then work crazy hours for decent money. Just keep paying your dues.

what's your favorite social media platform?
Jason Mackey

Face-to-face communication.

Sorry to hear about your father, Jason. We'll get thru this
Jason Mackey
1:33
Thank you. He died almost a year ago ... not that I don't still think about him every day.

1:34
Do you think Johnson & Gudbranson will play out their full contracts in Pittsburgh?
Jason Mackey
1:34
I don't think so, no. I think Gudbranson could be on the move this summer. Nothing against him, I just don't see a need. If they can move on, I think it might benefit them to free up that money.
Andy
1:34
Could you see Hagelin coming back this offseason on a team friendly deal?
Jason Mackey
1:35
Nah, it's his last big contract. I think he's going to want more than they can pay him. They knew that. That's one of the reasons why were OK trading him.

Assuming full health, and Pens makes the playoffs, what the starting line up Game 1, Round 1?
Jason Mackey
1:36
I already covered the D ... I'd go 59-87-72 ... 17-71-72 ... 19-27-81 ... 46-7-10.
Alex

Is the writing on the wall for Maatta?
Jason Mackey
1:37
I don't know if I'd go that far, but I think they have found people who can do his job and do it cheaper. I like Olli a lot, but i think they have to take a critical look at their defense this summer and see if they can save some money there.
Lil Man - Big Body
1:37
Of the remaining games left, how many games do they go with Matt "Mad Man" Murray?
Jason Mackey
1:37
I think he plays 12-13. Gotta ride him if he's playing this well.
Andy
1:37
They have to move one of Gudbranson, Maatta, or Johnson this offseason, no?
Jason Mackey
1:38
Yes, I would think so. It's probably going to be one of the first two.

Do you get any sense that the injury to Letang is 2017 all over again, where he's day to day, practices then stops? I know today is supposed to be an illness, but ever since that 2017 I get that sense of dread.
Jason Mackey
1:38
No, I don't. I wouldn't worry about that. I do think they want to be extra careful with this injury, because they need him to come back 100 percent ... even if that takes a little longer. I wouldn't worry about today.
Hatrick Porqvist
1:38
Jake seems to really be playing great even moreso lately - where do you think he ranks right now as a winger for Sid?
Jason Mackey
1:39
I think he's the best winger Sid has had in his career. Dead serious.

You think Malkin’s relatively poor year for him is related to Kessel being stapled to him and when he went cold so did Geno? Or is it related to the lack of Schultz most of the year and any puck moving D man to help him gain O zone possession? Or is it mainly all Geno?
Jason Mackey
1:40
I think it's mainly Geno-related. Those other things might have something to do with it, but it's minor. The issue has been Malkin and his confidence. I've never seen him shaken the way he's been, doubting himself, etc. He's bouncing back from it nicely now, but I think he was really screwed up mentally there for a bit.

Who gets shipped this summer to clear out cap in your opinion?
Jason Mackey
1:41
I think you look at a guy like Gudbranson ... who remember is basically Pearson on defense. Maybe Maatta. I also think GMJR will give a hard listen on Phil, to see if there are any deals out there that might make sense. I don't think they want to get stuck with the back end of his contract, even if they have to get rid or him a year or two early.

Do you think Bjukstad is better off as a right wing (not a playmaker, needs to just shoot it, use his size) but the Pens are stuck with too many right wingers so he's forced to play center where he's not as comfortable or productive?
Jason Mackey
1:41
I've actually liked Bjugstad more as a center. And I've liked him with Phil. I'll be curious, when Phil does get going and you can move him from Malkin's wing, what Bjugstad and Kessel look like together. I think they might have something there.
