Moving teams, as in being traded this summer. Can't imagine we can have Dumo, Pettersson, Johnson, Riikola, and Maatta on the left side.
Jason Mackey
1:42
I agree with you, but almost all of those guys can -- theoretically -- play the right. But, yeah, I think you'll see a defenseman or two moved over the summer.

More of a comment than a question: Of all the things that are said Sid and what makes him special, in my view, what makes him so unique is that what shines through is that, far more than anyone else,  he simply, truly loves playing hockey.  In my life, I don't think I have seen a professional athlete play each game with the consistent enthusiasm as he does. Sometimes, especially when it is a good, tough game,  I think he is almost disappointed that it has to end.
Jason Mackey

Crosby loves hockey more than anyone I've ever met.

Although he's been alright, why did the Pens choose to call up Trotman and not give Prow a chance?
Jason Mackey
1:43
They wanted someone with a little more experience ... and I agree with what they did. Trotman has been exactly what they wanted and needed back there. Just someone stable who could give them a split.

Personally I'd like to see Dumo-Letang, Maatta - Schultz, Pettersson - another right shot D, but I can't imagine that's how it shakes out. Gudbranson and Johnson can't be easy to move.
Jason Mackey
1:44
You are correct with this. But if Gudbranson plays OK -- he's been that thus far -- that could help them a lot.

No matter how good Murray is in a particular game, I have come to expect him to give up one bad goal a game. That's what concerns me. The bad goal. Happened again against Florida. I just don't feel like he can steal a game 1-0 or 2-1 when the Pens are badly outplayed.
Jason Mackey
1:45
He wouldn't be the only goalie in the league prone to allowing a bad one. Just sayin' ... I think there's a ton more good than bad. First-world problems complaining about Matt Murray.
Fred Herbert

Isn't it better to be tight, loose can be a little jarring to say the least
Jason Mackey
1:45
No, I meant that they were just relaxed, playing the game, having fun.

Any idea why Geno wears two different gloves? I think one is CCM, the other Bauer.
Jason Mackey
1:45
He switches his gloves around a lot. There's no rhyme or reason, as far as I can tell. Just whatever he feels like.

I work on a switchboard at a hotel. Who on the team would you want to be your roommate?
Jason Mackey
1:46
Whichever one doesn't snore.
Cameron
1:46
ZAR will be getting extended also, right?
Jason Mackey
1:46
Yes. He's an RFA. They'll obviously be keeping him.

Why doesn’t Sully see that the best use of the Geno-Phil pairing is to have a speedy forechecking forward on LW with them, like Hags was? Rust was tried with good results but then he went down. Now there’s McCann but he puts him with Sid. No offense to Sid but it’s in the best interest of the success of the team to have other lines working and McCann would be of much more help on L2. Honestly, Sid should suck it up and play with Horny and let McCann play with G and Phil
Jason Mackey
1:47
That line has seven goals and 16 points in two games. I think they should probably stick with that for now.

JM, love your work. What do you think of the current playoff format. Personally, I'm tired of it, sick of playing the same teams every year. I understand that you can't seed em 1-16 bec the travel and unbalanced schedule, but at least 1-8. What do u prefer?
Jason Mackey
1:47
I haaaaate it. And thank you for the kind words. It should be 1-8 and re-seeded after each round, in my opinion.

Do you see the pens trading Bjugstad in the offseason? Solid player, just doesn't feel like the right fit. McCann on the other hand...whew boy. At this point if we had traded Brassard for McCann straight up I would have been happy.
Jason Mackey
1:49
I think it's way too early to tell. McCann has been amazing. I can tell that. Bjugstad is still trying to find a fit, but I don't think anyone has it determined if they'll trade or keep him. Wait and see.

Will Rust be back for the playoffs? What’s going on there?
Jason Mackey
1:49
Yeah, I saw him walking just fine today. No boot or anything. He'll be back by then.

Hi Jason!  Love the columns and always forget to tell you live you on the Showdown!   Hey, this Florida trade looks like a GMJR winner!   Both guys are really going to be good players here!  Thanks...Dan
Jason Mackey
1:49
Thanks, Dan. And I agree with you. Someone said it before Brassard for McCann straight up would've been a huge win.

I promised I would ask you again who got the right side stall beside Sid... Poor guy :)
Jason Mackey
1:51
Yep. Teddy Blueger. I accidentally was standing in his staal today, too. Still pissed at myself for that. I hate when reporters don't respect these guys' personal space, and I screwed up because I wasn't paying enough attention. I apologized to Teddy, but I'm still made at myself for doing it.
Mike
1:51
Would you trade or explore a trade of Hornqvist after the season?
Jason Mackey
1:51
Absolutely not. I know he's not scoring. He's a huge part of this team emotionally, trust me. Everything that you want is still there: going to the right areas, battling, etc. He didn't wake up one day and forget how to score.
Andy
1:51
Who do you think the team would prefer to face in round 1 this year?  Has to be the Islanders, no?
Jason Mackey
1:52
I would think Columbus, honestly. Islanders are really good defensively. And that trip is a pain in the butt compared to three hours west, to a great city.
Clementine
1:52
Let's say during the playoffs, you slip on the ice and break both hands.  Would Molinari be a black ace that may be called up to replace you temporarily?
Jason Mackey
1:53
Ha. I'm sure if I seriously injured myself -- let's hope that doesn't happen -- Dave would take on a larger role. He's beyond capable. But he's also been around and will continue to be around. Hopefully a lot.

the tribute to Cullen was just great, first class Pens as usual.  Do you know if he has any interest in coaching once he "retires"?  I know the Pens hold him up like another coach.
Jason Mackey
1:54
I think the Penguins would hire Cullen in a heartbeat. For anything. I've asked Cullen this question a few times, on and off the record. He genuinely doesn't know. I think the only thing he does know is he wants to not do a blasted thing for a while, then figure it out from there. For the record, I think he would be a tremendous coach or player development guy. He has a knack. Again, if he wants to do it. He may just want to coach his kids.

You have such good insights and a good relationship with Sid. can i petition for you to write his biography on him? he has so much more years and achivements under his belt since Shawna’s The Kid came out
Jason Mackey
1:56
I would be honored. And I've read that book, it's tremendous. But I don't think that was a Sid-driven thing. I can't imagine Sid would want to do a book until his career is over, just because of how in-the-moment he is.
