I lived in Raleigh for 18 years growing up. I'm exceptionally happy to see their team beginning to revive. In your opinion, who is the likelier to be a long term challenger to the Pens, Canes or Isles?
Jason Mackey

Honestly, the Isles. Because of how good of a coach Barry Trotz is. And Lou. Moving forward, the Isles are positioned very nicely.

If the Pens do move guys like Maatta, Gudbranson, Kessel, Hornqvist, or whoever else to clear cap, can you see them trying to get younger. ZAR has been good with Geno and McCann has been great all around. Would it be smart to add a young RW?
Jason Mackey
2:29
Yes, it would, although Bjugstad could be that guy. And I think they will try to give more young forwards a chance starting next season. It will depend on whether those guys do anything with the opportunity.

Jason, pertaining to your previous statement that you don't think they want to get stuck with the back end of Phil's contract - even if they have to get rid or him a year or two early.  Don't you think we might be a year too late now?  His value must have plummeted from last summer to this upcoming one no?

I don't think so. If he starts scoring again -- and I think he will -- he'll have value. The question just becomes how much.

The real Cosmo K currently resides in FL and is not in the 412 anytime soon and surely knows the Pens don't play at the Civic arena anymore... How many points will be required to make the playoffs in the Neapolitan this year?
Jason Mackey

Cut was 97 last year. I could see it being around that again.

Do you think Malkin finishes his career in Pittsburgh?
Jason Mackey

Yes, I do.

ZAR was pretty bad last game...he looks good with a lot of energy coming back from injury but then he can’t keep it up. Would rather have McCann with Geno and Phil if Sully is going to keep those two together

He's a young player. He's going to have bad games. That doesn't mean you take him off the line. I think he'll be fine there. I just wouldn't mess with the top line right now.

Dominik Simon is 2nd in the league (forwards w/ 500+ min) in HDCF% at 5v5. He’s an elite possession driver at 5v5. He can skate, pass, he’s shooting a lot. Yet he isn’t in your playoff lineup, probably because of ‘lack of production’ despite Garrett Wilson being in. Why would you bench a guy who does nothing but positively impact possession for your team? Simon is literally a decent finish away from being a high end 5v5 player, dare I say top 6 *cries in yinzer*

He has three goals in 40 games. He does nothing in a bottom-six capacity. He's not scoring enough to fit into the top-six. I could see him cracking the lineup -- and he probably will because Sully loves him -- but I can't see giving him a top-six spot.

Is the NHL happy with the current OT and SO format? I think for the most part people love the 3 on 3, less so the shoot out. What about extending the 3 on 3 past 5 minutes? Withthe fatigue and the open ice someone will almost certainly score. IMO better way to decide then by SO?
Jason Mackey

Yeah, I think they are happy with it. I wouldn't look for that to change.
OK, folks. That's it for this week. Thanks so much for participating. Let's do this again next Thursday!
