I haven't read through the questions but....Daniel Sprong.  We have seen some flashes the last couple of games but nothing superb.  Why won't Sully put him with Sid or Geno?  What did he do?  I understand wanting him to earn it but I call BS- he must have insulted someone's mother or said 'I'm better than Sid' or something.  Aside from the fact that he doesn't seem to know where to go when he doesn't have the puck I see no reason to keep him off the top lines ;P

I don't think Sid or Geno want him there, to be honest, and it's more of a stylistic thing. With Malkin, Sprong would be the No. 1 shooter, and they don't want to do that with Malkin, unless we're talking Kessel. His game is oil and water with Sid.

Why is Derek Grant still here?
Jason Mackey
2:29
I would use Teddy Blueger, but they do like what Grant adds on the PK and they think he can maybe add some offense. I have my doubts.

Any chance Bluegar gets a chance over Sheahan
Jason Mackey
2:29
Not at we sit here today. I think he should, but they seem content to keep running Sheahan out there.

Would love to see Rust get back into form but do you know why he's been out of it in the first place?  Is it just a slump or did he have an injury I don't know about?
Jason Mackey
2:30
No injury to my knowledge. Confidence was an issue earlier. He's also been tremendously unlucky. He has done some other things to help. I think Rust is due a hot streak here soon.

Jason I know this is a stupid question but would Rutherford ever consider bringing Flower back?
Jason Mackey
2:30
No, I think that ship has passed, and there's no way Vegas would ever do that.

Hot take: It looks like Sully has put on a few pounds- would his team respond better if he was in shape enough to keep up with, say jack Johnson?
Jason Mackey
2:31
I don't understand your question. ... And I also don't think Sully's weight has anything to do with how his team has played.

I love Sid, but we have been looking for a RW for him since Marian Hossa. Maybe it's time for Sid to be less stubborn? And now it might cost us a young guy with upside, Sprong, just bec Sid doesnt want to play with him.
Jason Mackey
2:31
I don't think it's a Sid issue. He was good with a lot of wings -- Guentzel, Sheary, Hornqvist. Sid was great when he went out of the lineup. On my list of concerns for this team ... Sid ain't on it. They have wingers who can play with him.

Is Geno going to ever learn to play more disciplined? Dont get me wrong, when he's into it hes a load, but he's to careless in his own end and with penalties.
Jason Mackey
2:32
Maybe not. Got this before. But I think you just have to live with the bad. These issues are not new.

why is desmith playing tonight? whats the point?
Jason Mackey
2:32
I'm a little surprised. I thought he would go with Murray. But I think Sullivan thinks DeSmith gives them the best chance to win a game, and that's what they need to do more than anything -- get a win and get their confidence up before worrying about anything else.

Is Matt Murray the next Cam Ward?
Jason Mackey
2:32
I think it's too early to start thinking about that.

whos killing penalties now that cullen is out and hagelin gone
Jason Mackey

They've given ZAR some additional time, and he's been good. Rust, too. Even Jake Guentzel has been asked to do some of that stuff.

Do hockey players read?  I know video games is massively popular, and fishing, and golf, but what about intellectual endeavours?  I know Dumoulin is a 'foodie' but there's gotta be someone who reads poetry on the side, right?  They can't all just be 'jocks'..
Jason Mackey
2:34
They do some, but yeah, video games are probably much more popular given the demographic. I don't know of many Penguins anymore who are huge readers, but I don't think that's terribly unique in society today.

When is the trade deadline?
Jason Mackey

End of February, usually.

A lot of the time I see Simon doing really impressive stuff, making savvy plays but he also seems to fly under the radar a bit.  It feels like there is untapped potential there and they're hoping Sid can find it but Simon has to have some agency as well.  Thoughts?/
Jason Mackey
2:35
Yeah, I think Simon has actually improved a decent amount this season. He does a lot of stuff -- small areas, wall plays, give-and-go game -- that's subtle, and I think he has actually been decent with Crosby when given the chance.

Is Cully’s injury a real injury? Seems more like they want him out of the way a bit to give new young guys a chance.
Jason Mackey
2:35
I think it's a real injury. Matt Vensel saw him with an ice pack on his right leg/ankle in Ottawa, the game before he went out.

Of the next 5 games, which team do we have the best chance to beat? Injury depleted Boston? Maybe Dallas tonight using their also injury depeleted defense and backup goalie?
Jason Mackey
2:35
I think tonight is a very good chance. Boston, too. Would be great for them if they could get two of the next three in some form or fashion.
2:36
OK, folks, that does it. Thanks so much for participating. Hope everyone has a Happy Thanksgiving!
