You'd still score 20-30 goals.

Given that San Jose made a run with Thorton and Marleau two seasons ago, wouldn't it seem reasonable that the Pens window for Sid and Geno could be similar to the one San Jose has experienced?
Jason Mackey
2:42
Sure, absolutely. But I hate windows.

Will there be another check in the defensive zone after Cole is traded?
Jason Mackey
2:43
Ha, yes. They'll get someone who plays a little more physical. Andrey Pedan is one to watch. He plays that game. Might not be ready, though.

Hey Jason I really like Greg McKegg's two way game, any chance Sully would play him on the wing with  Rowney and Kuhnhackl?
Jason Mackey
2:43
Possibly. Gives Sullivan a backup center, which he likes.

Flyers are trending down.  Could you ever imagine a scenario where we’d be trade partners? Simmonds maybe?  The exact winger the pens could use
Jason Mackey
2:44
That won't happen. Very rare for teams to trade inside the division.

How much is the "in the room"/personality/leadership/morale side of things considered in trade/signing decisions? Just thinking about that regarding Cole and especially Hornqvist (really liked Starkey's column yesterday!) and how much the Pens have lost on that side of things lately. (There was an interesting article from a Caps reporter about their players lobbying to resign Oshie helping sway mgmt to do so, wondered how uncommon that was.)
Jason Mackey
2:45
It's taken into consideration, but GMs are ultimately going to do what's best for their team, in their minds, not what the players necessarily want. But it is a factor. Just depends on how much of one.

im surprised that cole and sullivan butt head since cole seems like a good solider doing the jobs that have little glory and more bad press if they play bad.
Jason Mackey
2:45
Cole isn't afraid to speak his mind. On anything. I don't think that sits terribly well with Sully. Just a hunch I have.
Jason
2:45
How people think the Pens can 3-peat with this mediocre offense is beyond me,what say you?
Jason Mackey
2:46
I think the offense will look drastically different in a couple months with a trade, maybe two and Daniel Sprong.
Dave
2:46
Why not just buy out Hag
Jason Mackey
2:47
I think there's a belief that he'll start scoring. You might disagree with that, and I understand why. But sort of a holding-out-hope thing so they wouldn't be paying money for nothing ... while also not getting any chicks for free.

Jason.  the penguins showed some interest in Evander Kane before he went to buffalo.  Word is buffalo is looking to trade him and willing to retain.  What are the odds that the pens trade Cole to buffalo?
Jason Mackey
2:48
I don't think very good. I keep getting asked this, but I see no way this works money-wise. I also worry about what I've been told character-wise. Not sure there's a fit there. But yes, they did like him as a player.

If the Pens desperately need the cap space and cannot find a trade partner, could they just cut Haglin to save the money?  Not ideal but could use that elsewhere.
Jason Mackey
2:48
They could buy him out, but the hope is that they wouldn't have to do that.
Constantino

On Evander Kane, "ding ding ding" that Pens have inquired, or that character stuff would preclude it?
Jason Mackey
2:49
That character stuff would probably preclude it.
Jason
2:49
What do you think Cole and Sprong would fetch a great return? Not convinced Sprong is as good as people claim..
Jason Mackey
2:49
Yeah, I'm not sure its worth it to deal Sprong at this point. The return doesn't outweight the potential loss.
Papa John
2:49
What sort of Centers are available that we could we could get in return for Cole?
Jason Mackey
2:50
Have heard COL, TOR and VGK. Maybe Bozak? Haula?

2:50
why not wait until closer to trade deadline to trade Cole?
Jason Mackey
2:50
They could. But there's also off-the-ice stuff to consider and how much longer both sides wanted this to continue. The Penguins also could use a spark of some sort right now, specifically an offensive spark.
Brian
2:50
Im just joining now so if this was already asked my bad. When do you think cole will be traded and what are the penguins looking to get?
Jason Mackey
2:51
Soon and a 3C/depth-scoring option.
Kevin
2:51
Do you think GMJR would reconsider keeping Kunitz or bonino if he had a mulligan for this past offseason?
Jason Mackey
2:51
Kunitz yes, Bonino no. Bonino got too sweet of a deal for the Penguins to reasonably match.
Bob
2:51
Are the pens gonna try and get a bottom 6 centremen soon?
Jason Mackey
2:51
Yes, talks are ongoing now, I believe, as they relate to the Penguins shopping Cole.
2:52
OK, folks. That does it. Have a bunch more to write and drive to Buffalo. Thanks for participating!
