Definitely right wing for Sid. They have a left wing for Geno. They should get Zuccarello and play him with Hagelin and Brassard. Ha. Maybe trade for Hank and hire Alain Vigneault, too.

Do you think the pens would benefit with some consistency with line mates? I understand why sully keeps changing them but would it hurt to just let the lines build some chemistry for awhile ? Also should he give sprong chance on Sids wing?

I think so, on both counts. I get why Sullivan is shuffling, too, but sooner or later you have to let things take root. And I would absolutely play Sprong with Sid or Malkin. I don't see keeping him in a non-scoring capacity. If you refuse to play him up top, trade him.

Should the penguins fire Sullivan?

Absolutely not.

Who would be traded first in your opinion???
Jason Mackey

Whomever offers the best return, honestly, but I'd explore deals on Sprong, Brassard, Maatta, Sheahan and Hagelin if see if I got any bites.

Does the team miss pieces they traded or let go?  Tocchet and Conor Sheary as an example.

Eh, I think that's revisionist history. Yeah, maybe now because they weren't winning. But you weren't going to stop Tocchet from getting a job, and it's easy to forget some of Sheary's weaknesses now that he's gone.

I am worried that the lack of patience being shown Sprong can be looked at by other young players coming up from wb and they may press to produce cause they are afraid of being benched and this won’t help anyone’s development

I think we're going a little far with it. I think you can be critical of how they've treated Sprong specifically, but they've given other places chances and let them be ... most recently ZAR.

For all the jack Johnson talk, he’s been a career minus player. I think he’ll be ok here in Pittsburgh. Give him a chance. He’s got size and physicality that this pens backend doesn’t have other than Oleksiak. Not to mention, I’ve liked Johnson since he played for the Kings

I think Jack Johnson is fine for the third pair. For now. The back end of that deal might stink, yes, but like so many other things with the Penguins, cross that bridge when you come to it. But of course if you play him on your top pair it's going to stink. They had the same issue with Ben Lovejoy a couple years ago ... then the next year, wouldn't you know it, Ben Lovejoy wasn't terrible when he played against who he was supposed to play against.

They played well last night.  With that kind of effort, they will win more often than not just based on their talent alone.  Just think that better decisions could have been made in the past two off-seasons to help with the overall balance of the team.

Agree with that. Rutherford has made some mistakes, no doubt. See my response above, Andy. GMJR got Johnson to play third-pairing minutes. When he does that, and those in front of him are better, I think this deal could look different. Hence why I said let's pump the brakes a little here.

Any idea if the Penguins have had talks about Julius Honka from Dallas? He'd fit the bill pretty well of a rehab project

I have not heard that, no. Sorry.
OK, folks. That does it for this week. Thanks so much for participating. Love the interaction. Let's do this again next Thursday!
