He was unhappy that much risk was being taken. There's a lot of ways to look at that. That Reaves was on the bench. That those guys are losing their minds and seemingly trying to score goals via fights. ... He was mad because he thought he solved the issue, and it was happening anyway.

letang is either a top 5 dman in the league when he's on and when he's not, he's awful. Do you recall any other player being so up and down?

Limas Sweed was up and down quite a bit. Great potential. Never delivered. ... Craig Wilson, too. Dude could hit it a mile but wouldn't come within three feet of a breaking ball.

Apologies -just a quick funny story from inside the locker room.  I always find those fascinating.  The mic'd up segments, or when the cameras are rolling...is there a favorite story you have

One time during a Crosby scrum, Dan Potash was leaning on a plastic garbage can. Small one, where players throw tape and whatnot. Well, it bent, and inevitably crumpled. Potash went face-first into the middle of the scrum. Crosby lost it.

Thanks again for doing this! One more question, if you have time. You said above that you weren't entirely sure that Letang is hurt, but maybe just needed to get away and get his head on straight. I had wondered if that might be the case (didn't Sully say SId had a lower body injury in order to give him a game or two off before Christmas, when Sully first joined the team)? But, with Rudy and Schultz being out of the lineup, I had thought there was no chance they'd bench Letang if he was healthy. Do you really think they might have?

Yes, I do. He needed to get away. I get questions every week about Letang's struggles. A good bit of them are fair. At times, he helped them. Other times -- remember the awful pass to Dumoulin? -- he hasn't; he's hindered them. Letting him clear his head right now is not the worst thing.

Do the penguins think they need more grit on the team?
Jason Mackey

Toughness, no? But a player like Bonino, Kunitz or Cullen? Guys who had "it?" Yes, I think they could use one of those types.

Would that anger indicate that there's a disconnect between what Rutherford wanted from Reaves and what Reaves can provide/how Sullivan deploys Reaves? Given Reaves' minuscule TOI, it's clear Sullivan doesn't trust him, and Sully has never been a stranger to scratching guys he thinks are underperforming (Hagelin, Sheary in playoffs last year, Cole this year). Is it possible for you to comment on whether Reaves is in the lineup on orders from above or is Rutherford a lot more hands off than that?

We're really analyzing one look of frustration here. Probably too much. I do think all parties involved want him in the lineup. How much he plays has often been handicapped by special teams games and the Penguins chasing games; the poor starts haven't helped.

OK, folks. That's it for today. Thanks, as always, for participating. Talk to yinz next week!
