Why does Mike Sullivan seemed to be obsessed with Dominik Simon?  I can't believe this guy is in the top six.
Jason Mackey
2:06
Who else would you put there? If you use Phil with Brassard and Hornqvist with Malkin, your only other option is Rust. Don't Sprong me, please.
Matt
2:06
Is it time for the Penguins to pull a Claude Giroux and put Malkin on Sid's left wing?
Jason Mackey
2:06
No, I don't think so. Malkin's fine. Relax. He goes through stretches like this every season, people think there's an issue, then he goes nuts again, and we start talking about the NHL 100 list or something with him.

I know the pens will pay him, but hypothetically speaking, what would happen if another team offered Guentzel more money along the $8-$9m mark? Would he take it? Is there actually a chance he could test the market if he thinks he’s worth more than what the pens offer?
Jason Mackey
2:07
He doesn't have that option, nor do they. Nobody offer sheets anyone anyway. And Guentzel also really likes it here; not a bad life getting to play with Sidney Crosby. So, no, I don't think he's going to hold out or something silly to try and juice every dollar he can out of the team. I don't think his dad would even allow that.

Hi Jason.  I saw a picture of Crosby in shorts sitting the Pens locker room.   Mercy, are his thighs huge rivaling those of any NFL lineman.   Do most hockey players have massive thighs or is Sid somewhat of an anomaly?
Jason Mackey
2:08
It's from skating. Hockey players always have strong legs, although Sid's a little different than most. Part of it is genetic. Part of it is not.

why would u trade ollie for another defenseman? maybe ollie is not one of sullys favorites. don't get your hopes up murry is so overrated the only thing he has going for him is he is sullys boy..murry will never b a top goalie
Jason Mackey

Guess he'll have to settle for those two Cup rings, eh? Lot of sweeping assertions there.

Hi Jason. I agree a transition year might not be the worst thing , except what are they transitioning to ?  The Pens haven’t been particularly good at drafting and developing ( I know they have given away a boatload if picks) when they do pick a player. Thus the fan clamor for Sprong     JR was able to get past that by turning Scuderi s into Daley’s early on and the cups came. Now he has had a reversion to the means and that’s not sustainable. So given a bereft farm system , what’s the best scenario happening after this “ transistion” ?
Jason Mackey
2:09
The best scenario would be winning now. Ha. Maybe, though, a couple of recent higher-round picks the Penguins feel like they can rehab fast. And/or a good young NHL player or two. Certainly not picks who are 3-4 years away.

Why would they trade Maatta???
Jason Mackey
2:09
I wouldn't do it.
HML
2:09
Why would they think of traded Maatta
Jason Mackey
2:09
Because he would carry some value, I think, but again, I wouldn't do it.

I’m telling you Fleury Murray Swap
Jason Mackey
2:10
Yeah, I'm sure Vegas will do that.
Doley

What skill is most frequently lacking in guys like Sprong and Zykov who can score a bunch in the AHL but not the NHL--like hockey's equivalent of an "AAAA" baseball player?
Jason Mackey
2:11
It's usually how they defend. How they think. If they get lost puck-watching. If they even care about hitting people, etc., and playing for a coach who wants them to do it. Sprong likes to score goals. He doesn't really care much about playing the way Sullivan wanted him to play. That was an issue.
Doley
2:11
The Penguins seem to convert an abnormally-low percentage of their breakaways. It's particularly noticeable when so many are scored against them. Is this a stat that's kept league-wide?
Jason Mackey
2:11
I've been trying to find that, Doley. I'm sure it is, but I have not had success finding it. I've noticed the same thing, though.

Can you ask Oleksiak what his favorite color is?
Jason Mackey
2:11
No.
PENSFANINBVA
2:11
If they want scoring then why trade Kessel and Rusty is snakebit and murray for Fleury
Jason Mackey
2:12
They're not going to trade Kessel, at least not if they're competing for the postseason. Yes, and gimme a break. Vegas wouldn't do it, and man are people here quick to turn on Murray.
PENSFANINBVA
2:12
And do u think they have interest in Bonino???
Jason Mackey
2:12
Interest? Yes. Is it realistic? No. Money makes it hard. Plus, Nashville would never do it.
Matt
2:12
Move Grant to 3c-- he's had some success when he got playing time at 2c at his former team.
Jason Mackey
2:13
I think you need to see what you have in Brassard, then react accordingly. It's been long enough. If he can't make it work with Phil, they need to go get someone who can.

Jason, does this team ever get  to playing fast, keeping it simply, moving in packs, and shooting rather than over passing to make the perfect play?
Jason Mackey
2:13
They do, yes. Although what fun would it be doing that perfect all the time? Wouldn't be the Penguini Way.
Tom
2:13
Is Sullivan's time here starting to wear thin?
Jason Mackey
2:13
No. Not this year. If they miss the playoffs and start poorly next season, maybe. But not right now.
Steven
2:14
Have you seen Bonino's contract and his play in Nashville? In what world is that an upgrade over Brassard?
Jason Mackey
2:14
First off, I wouldn't do it because of the contract. But if Brassard can't mesh with Phil, and Nashville would, for some reason, eat $1 million per season, it's a straight swap. I'd do that. Again, if Brassard ultimately couldn't mesh with Phil or get it done here.

Is Murray really in the dog house with the staff and if could he get moved? Seems like franchise goalies don’t always grow on trees - see
Jason Mackey
2:15
He's not getting moved, and he's not in the doghouse. Do they need him to be better? Of course. Does he need to prove he can stay healthy? You bet. But he's not in any sort of doghouse. They like him.

Shero lost me when he kept to his only pattern and passed on a falling Forsberg to draft the great Derek pouliet.  JR might have lost me when he signed “ dad” while a much needed Duclair was out there   Actually he has lost me since Reeves. How much of this is to blame on an obvious disconnect with Sullivan?
Jason Mackey
2:16
I wouldn't call it an "obvious" disconnect. I think GMJR wanted a certain thing with Reaves, and he's not wrong. But if the coach won't play the guy, what are you supposed to do? And the coach was coming off back-to-back Cups. You're not going to fire him.
