What are your thoughts on ZAR's play? What line or line mates would you like to see him with?
Jason Mackey
1:59
Exactly who he's playing with tonight -- Sid. Test him. I like his game. I think he has to play with skilled players, though, to really bring the best out of him. I'd like to see him more aggressive around the net and play with a little bit more of an edge, to assert himself.

Jason, How is Iceburgh this year?  Having a down year? Seems like fans at the game could use a little more cowbell.  Any thoughts?
Jason Mackey
1:59
Iceburgh is having a fine year.

Doesn’t it seem like Carl Hagelin and Bryan Rust are a lot more valuable paired with top players? Those guys create havoc and extra possessions. But getting the puck to Sid or Geno is worth more than getting it to Riley Shehan. Hagelin is a weapon paired with skilled players but isn’t very useful on the 4th line.
Jason Mackey

Hagelin has been playing with Malkin during this entire solid run. Rust is with Malkin and was with Crosby. What's the issue here?

Hello, would you trade for Patrick Maroon and Mark Letestu from Edmonton to Pittsburgh for 1st round pick and Sprong!
Jason Mackey
2:00
Not only would I not do that, I couldn't. You're bringing in around $3 million without sending any out.

What are the ideal lines in your eyes if everyone is healthy? I love the malkin, hagelin, and hornqvuist line. As pretty as Malkin's goal was the other night, the assist was just as beautiful. Thanks Jason. Greatly appreciate you taking time to answer my questions and truly respect your analysis.
Jason Mackey
2:01
Gladly. I'd go 59-87-43 // 62-71-72 // 17-15-81 // 37-4C you acquire-75 (he's gonna play; might as well be OK with it)

With Lent in full swing, what would your prefer?  Broiled fish or beer-battered fried fish?
Jason Mackey
2:02
Beer-battered please. Love fish sandwiches.

Do you think Sullivan likes the current fourth line of Kuhn-Rowney-Reaves and if not, who would he play there if he had his druthers?
Jason Mackey
2:02
Oh, I think he likes that line. Maybe a little too much.

Jason, thoughts on bringing in Cullen and Grabner? Both could be acquired without removing a significant roster spot. 4th line center would be addressed and Grabner would fit in as a depth winger that would fit our system perfectly
Jason Mackey
2:03
I would try for both. Grabner would probably be tougher. To me, you have to upgrade the 4C spot. Grabner doesn't do that. Try to get him, great. He would be excellent. But he doesn't address the 4C spot. He'd be a luxury.

Last week, I asked about the dude your feared the most on the 93.7 the Fan staff.  Thank you for your response.  I asked Joe Starkey the same question and received no reply.  Is the Savvy Old Newshound just being finicky with his responses?
Jason Mackey
2:03
Probably thinks he's too good to answer questions.

Sully basically acknowledged in those Sportsnet  radio comments that he would have to send salary out in order to sign someone who could help the Pens now, like a 3C. The question is who that is....I think his only real choices are Sheary and Hunwick if he doesn't want to trade Cole or Hornqvist, which he shouldn't
Jason Mackey
2:03
Yes. And finding teams to take either one of those could be very tricky, if not impossible.

Do Pens trade Crosby in offseason? Goal scoring down, bloated contract. Would rather have someone like Blueggens or Sampson on the team.
Jason Mackey
2:04
Good one, Dan.

Hi Jason
Jason Mackey

Hi, self.
Rahn
2:04
How many players do the Penguins currently have under contract? The limit's 50, correct? Just thinking in terms of trade deadline, college free agents, draft picks like Anthony Angelo that remain unsigned. Thanks.
Jason Mackey
2:04
Believe between 45-50, Rahn. Sorry. That's all the more specifics I can offer right now.

Do Pens' players get to pick their own equipment, such as hockey sticks (what brand do they want to use) or do they have to use what the organization gives them?
Jason Mackey
2:05
Most, if not all, have deals with suppliers to use their equipment.
Guy Boucher
2:05
Wow, rough game for us the other night against yinz. Do I get fired after this season?
Jason Mackey
2:05
I don't think so.
Bill S.

Any interest in acquiring a veteran goalie for the playoff run if Murray gets hurt?
Jason Mackey
2:05
No, I don't think. They would be OK with Jarry being the guy.
Linus Van Pelt

I can't mind my blue blanket, though I suspect Lucy has it.
Jason Mackey

Are you Alex's brother?

How do the Pens and Tampa match up currently? I don’t know what theyre needs are regarding the deadline, but how would they match up right now?
Jason Mackey
2:06
Tossup, in my opinion. Tampa may actually be a little deeper. Penguins have more experience. Would be an amazing series.

I just don’t think we get commensurate value out of Letang for what we are paying him.  Any chance we move him?
Jason Mackey
2:06
Zero.

Haven't been able to keep up with all the questions (stupid job getting in the way LOL) so sorry if this was asked.  What do you think about a guy like Antoine Vermette as a 4C option?  Cheaper than Plekanec, was actually a healthy scratch a few times, Rutherford has good trade history with Anaheim (Hagelin, Lovejoy).   He's good on faceoffs, and and can still play.  Was getting 15-20 minutes a game up until the 1st of the year.
Jason Mackey
2:07
Eh. I worry about the keep-up in the Penguins system. If it was cheap, maybe. But probably not.
