Ha. He is. And he talked today! What a beauty. No bribes that I know about. Just Phil soaking up some of the spotlight.
Jason

I think Crosby needs someone better than Sheary, seems teams have figured out how to cover Sheary. So if there is some kind of shot at getting Kane and no 3rd line center works out,I would try for Kane myself.
Jason Mackey
2:33
I'd worry about the personality becoming an issue in the dressing room.

I guess I'm a weirdo because I don't like or eat doughnuts.  I prefer eggs.  Doughnuts are deep fried in artery clogging and cancer causing trans fats and covered in sugar.  They pretty much are filled with the worst ingredients out there.  Can I send you a box of a dozen doughnuts?
Jason Mackey
2:34
I'm OK, thanks.

Does the team’s away location determine if they fly or bus to the game? For example, do they drive to places like Columbus and other relatively close destinations, or do they fly everywhere?
Jason Mackey
2:34
They fly everywhere.
Pens4Life
2:34
How about you in terms of away game travel? Do you have someone at the PG who arranges your travel plans, or do you have to set that all up?
Jason Mackey
2:35
We set that all up ourselves. We have someone we turn in receipts to, but we basically book within reason as early as possible to get the best rates.

Is it possible we see two moves by Monday,  Grabner and maybe even a small one like Cullen?
Jason Mackey
2:35
I think that's possible. I don't think it's likely. But I do think it's possible.
Pens4Life
2:35
Regarding the talk of Grabner and a team not wanting to help an inter-division rival, doesn’t the possibility of helping your own team trump that? I get it – NY wouldn’t want to assist the Pens, but if they could get a decent return, that would surely take precedent over said help, correct?
Jason Mackey
2:36
Yeah, that makes sense. The distinction here might be if another team will offer the same thing, the Rangers would prefer to deal with, say, Boston. Or if they could get a little bit of an improvement over what the Penguins are dangling.
Pens4Life
2:36
Jason, you often report about the overall openness and amiability of hockey players. To what do you attribute that? I’ve worked in media since 2000 and have had the chance to talk with athletes and find many of them arrogant and stand-offish, but hockey players are different. Why do you think that is?
Jason Mackey
2:37
I think it's partly the culture within the sport. It's inclusive. I think it's the Canadian in them, too. If you've ever spent time in Canada, I don't have to tell you how unfailingly nice Canadians are. Also, we see each other every day. You get to a certain level of understanding; they might be less welcoming with a new face, but sometimes I see these guys more than I see my family.

Refresh my memory – there is no salary cap come playoff time, right?
Jason Mackey
2:37
Yes.
Jared
2:37
Are there any good 4th line centers available ?
Jason Mackey
2:37
Yes, a few of them, actually.

Hey Jason! When Geno is playing the play he is now, is he a better player than Crosby? I know Crosby is the better player overall, most likely due to the how consistent he is but Geno is on another planet.
Jason Mackey
2:38
It's possible. It's possible, when Malkin is the way he is now, he's better than every other player on the planet, period. That's no insult to Sid. Sid even brought something similar up today when I asked. There's just a different level of determination in Malkin's game when he's going like this.

After the whole NHL100 thing all I want is for Malkin to win all the awards all the time. I am glad to hear that he’s a strong team mvp candidate and look forward to your article.
Jason Mackey
2:39
My pleasure. Wouldn't it be hilarious if he went on to win the Art Ross or something like that?
BH

Has Kris Letang noticeably helped the Pens break out this year?
Jason Mackey
2:40
Some. More lately. He struggled at the beginning of the season, but I do think Letang has shown signs of improvement.
Mick J
2:40
Do you enjoy the GDs cover of my tunes as much as I do?
Jason Mackey
2:40
You mean Not Fade Away and It's All Over Now? Aren't those Buddy Holly and Bobby Womack?
Bob Sackamono
2:40
Hi Jason!
Jason Mackey
2:41
Hi, Bob!
Bob Sackamono
2:41
Sorry I was late
Jason Mackey
2:41
That's OK. We started without you, FYI.

Just curious if you would have any idea... if a GM calls Rutherford and asks what the price is for Crosby or Malkin, does he just hang up right then and there?
Jason Mackey
2:41
After laughing his 69-year-old [butt] off, yes.

Who gets demoted when Horny returns? I personally excited to see two pesky players like ZAR and Horny in the lineup at the same time.
Jason Mackey
2:42
I don't think anyone. I think Reaves sits tomorrow. Beyond that, maybe judge off Friday. I'd send Simon down before ZAR, at least at this point. They might just keep the 13 they have, although I need to check and see if that's possible from a cap standpoint.

Thank you for the awesome chat today!  Like the movie from the 80's you are An Officer and a Gentleman.
Jason Mackey
2:43
I don't know about any of that, but thank you for the kind words.

IMHO I think that "going big" at the trade deadline is not the way to go! This year, smaller is better.
Jason Mackey
2:43
Agree with you, Kevin.
Jason

I would easily give Sprong and Sheary away and a 1rst or 2nd or 3rd for good returns, obviously 2 good returns back.
