Why haven’t they called anyone up after the injuries in the Vegas game? Who’s going to be 4th line C?
Jason Mackey
2:33
It's likely Blueger. Sounds like he left Providence.

Here's a journalism question. Don't worry--I'm not going to ask you to dish on your former employer. You are someone who has worked in more traditional journalism (print with emerging online presence is how I would define that now) and in a strictly online, multimedia format. Which do you prefer? What are the advantages and disadvantages of both from the perspective of a writer?
Jason Mackey
2:37
Thank you for asking a professional, well-worded question about that stuff. One, I like newspapers. I'm probably a bit of an old soul, and maybe I'm stupid, but I like newspapers. I came to that conclusion at DKPittsburghSports.com. I also think there's a certain type of person who does well at sites like that ... and I'm not it. I like being a part of something bigger, like a newspaper, where you have entertainment and food writers, local crime reporters, etc. I think the whole operation is neat. As a writer, it's not too much different. DK, The Athletic and the Post-Gazette all trust the writers to good work, know their beats, etc. Deadline is a factor here, but I think we need to think beyond deadlines; hit them, sure, but also think web-first and be cognizant that most people read on their phones or tablets. So go back and re-write the FULL story instead of calling it a night at 11 p.m. or whenever your deadline is.

Derek Ryan would be a GREAT fit. Solid production, cheap, great possession guy
Jason Mackey
2:38
I wouldn't reject it. Could be interesting.

NO love this week?
Jason Mackey
2:38
I put it through.
Erik
2:38
Regarding Brassard, Sheary and a 2nd would make sense. OTT could retain a little money to facilitate the deal, just for this year.
Jason Mackey
2:38
Given the market, no way they'd have to do that.

Hi Jason!

Hi, Bob!

Is there any talk of the Pens signing Ryan Haggerty to an NHL contract before the trade deadline? If yes, would he have to clear waivers?
Jason Mackey
2:39
There's been no talk of that that I've heard, Mike. Would not have to clear waivers to go up.
Jason C
2:39
Do you think the Rangers would deal any players to the pens? And if so who would be a good fit? I like the idea of Grabner afortable has speed?
Jason Mackey
2:39
Love the idea of Grabner, and yes, I do. I think they're going into total rebuild mode, and when you do that, you don't care who gets your guys ... at least less than maybe Washington would. Only thing with Grabner, though, is he's not a center.

Whats your favorite fast food on the road?
Jason Mackey
2:40
BBQ, hands down. Gonna get some tonight in Dallas, as a matter of fact. And seafood in Vancouver. Italian in NYC. Thank you for the non-hockey question. Love those.
Kris
2:40
Ok. I’ll give up the finger. Do we get Matt Cullen back?
Jason Mackey
2:40
I think so.

Who are your best bargains (Third Line Center Speaking) the Pens could trade for? What about defensemen, should the Pens look for depth at that position as well?
Jason Mackey
2:42
I think they're OK on defense if they commit to keeping Ian Cole. Bargains ... hmm ... was just asked about him, but I think Derek Ryan could make sense. Maybe Desharnais, although probably more as a 4C. I don't think they do either.

how's the burger?
Jason Mackey
2:42
Terrific. All done. Angus beef, BBQ sauce, bacon, smoked gouda, some tobacco onions. Well done, Marriott restaurant.

Not one of the NHL’s 100 greatest, seldom mentioned among the league’s elite (nationally), and even the local beat reporter, Mackey, picks Crosby to outscore him the rest of the way this season ;) Does the the lack of respect (relative to his accomplishments) motivate Geno or does he just tune it out like a professional?
Jason Mackey
2:43
Ha. Turning my answer into a criticism ... I like it. He uses it to motivate him, I'm sure. Although I'm not sure how much my answer in a chat contributed to that.
Erik
2:43
OTT would definitely do that in my opinion, PIT wouldn't and shouldn't.
Jason Mackey
2:43
Okey doke.
Erik
2:43
FYI - salary retention happens quite often to facilitate trades.  The notion that "there isn't enough cap space" pending the money is relatively close, shouldn't matter.
Jason Mackey
2:44
We're not talking about close. We're talking about ~ $2 million dollars on a good, young player -- if I have the thread right -- who's reasonable.

Does Crosby, Malkin, Kessel have much input with the coaches who they like /want to play with?
Jason Mackey
2:45
Some, but not all. Sullivan will listen, but all three understand it's the coach's call. They might not like it, either, but they do respect it.

woukd vince trocheck be a name on the pens radar? Local product too, but would probably cost a lot.
Jason Mackey
2:45
Yeah, the cost would be high. On the radar, yes. Available, no. At least from everything I've heard.

How's that Marriott burger. that can't be a good thing.
Jason Mackey

It was a terrific thing. Bad experience with burgers at Marriotts?

Thank you very much! This is either my wife or one of my parents, I'm convinced of it.

Any chance Sheary could be moved to open up cap space ?
