What about them? Ha. I think their season probably ends tomorrow.

How frequently does it happen that players get angry at a teammate for being reckless in practice and potentially putting someone in a dangerous situation? Have you picked up any of that from the Flyers with Gudas?
Jason Mackey
3:04
I've never seen anything like that before, to be honest. Maatta hit Murray with a shot that hurt him. It wasn't hard. It wasn't stupid. It wasn't malicious. And Maatta felt absolutely terrible. That Gudas ... so, so dumb.

Do you think Couturier will play in game 5? After seeing Hextall's interview today he seemed very sensitive to any questions asked about Couturier. Seems to me he knows he cant play and hes pissed at Gudas in his head for the bonehead move
Jason Mackey
3:04
I think he will try. I don't think it will go well. I don't blame Hextall at all. What a stupid thing by Gudas.

What does Sullivan do better than Bylsma did?  To me it's discipline.  They don't let teams like the Flyers get them off their game.
Jason Mackey
3:05
I agree with that. I also think Sullivan is able to make adjustments and fix problems. I think the Penguins felt like Bylsma was either too stubborn, incapable or both. But everything Sullivan has touched has turned to gold in Pittsburgh, and that's a really good thing.

I apologize in advance..a new hockey fan.. I see film of other teams and often the play appears very physical, aggressive hard hitting, how do you rank the Penguins in terms of physicality?
Jason Mackey
3:06
No need to apologize, Steve. Welcome. ... The Penguins are not one of the more physical teams you'll see. Their game is about skating, playing with the puck, playing well, pretty play. They are not, as they say in hockey talk, terribly "heavy."

Following up on your tweet...What’s up with Murray?? He ok?
Jason Mackey
3:07
He's fine. I think he took a shot in a sensitive area.
Ron
3:07
Do you think Murray  will play every game
Jason Mackey
3:07
I do, actually. Someone asked me this before the postseason. I think it's important to him to do that.
Bill
3:07
How incredible is it that the 2 leaders in shutouts last year have almost equaled that total in the first round?  How lucky to have watched 2 incredible goaltenders the last 2 years.
Jason Mackey
3:07
Thanks for being rational about this, Bill. An embarrassment of riches.
Steve
3:08
Notwithstanding any reference to Fluery are the Penguins at serous risk if anything happens/injury to Murray? How do you rank their depth at that position?
Jason Mackey
3:09
I don't know how I rank it (compared to what?), but it's not good. They're in some trouble. I like Jarry and DeSmith as players and people, but they have zero experience in this setting. The same for Murray a couple years ago ... I know. But he was the exception, not the rule. If Murray is hurt, that's a huge deal. (He's not, FYI.)

Is Alain Vigneault a good fit in Philly if Hakstol gets fired?
Jason Mackey
3:09
Hakstol isn't going to get fired, but I think Vigneault is a tremendous coach. He'd be a fit anywhere that wanted him. If I was Hextall, I'd trade Hakstol for Vigneault right now.

Hi Jason, really good to hear Jim has no intentions of retiring. The man is an absolute wizard at the GM position.
Jason Mackey
3:09
And very good to us in the media.

3:09
Hi Jason. Do you think Couturier is out for game 5? Hextall's response today at his press conference was very snippy and the look on his face was not pleasant. Seems to me he wont play and Hextall knows it
Jason Mackey
3:10
I think Hextall is pissed at the whole situation, and I don't blame him. It's pure stupidity and carelessness on Gudas' part. So dumb. I think Couturier will try, because his team is facing elimination, but I'm not expecting it to go well.

Jason, do you think the Flyers try to goon it up on the Pens on Friday? I won’t put it past them.
Jason Mackey
3:11
I don't, honestly. I think they're at the point where they know it won't work. I question, too, how much the Flyers want to be here. Looks like they just want to get this over with and get on with the offseason.

What do you think of Ruhwedel's play so far in this series? I feel like he got beat bad by TK for that goal in Game 2 and against a better team than the flyers will he be able to adapt?
Jason Mackey
3:12
I'm fine with what Ruhwedel has done. He's a No. 5/6. Sullivan is playing that pairing less. He's getting sheltered minutes. I know the Konecny goal, but that stuff is going to happen. It hasn't been a trend. I'd much rather have Ruhwedel than Hunwick, I know that.

Just heard that Murray was injured in practice???
Jason Mackey
3:12
He's fine.
Mike
3:12
Do you get a sense that the team feels like Columbus ducked them and wants them next or would they rather enjoy sending Washington packing once again?
Jason Mackey
3:13
They could not possibly care less, trust me. It's basically business for these guys. Survive and advance. It could be against the Washington Generals. Same deal.
Zack
3:13
Sharks went to the final two years ago and look like they're rounding into form again.  I wouldn't count 'em out.
Jason Mackey
3:13
It's going to be a tremendous series. Vegas just has something special, man. Seems stupid to count them out of anything.
Todd
3:14
Never mind..from the tribune: Matt Murray coyly acknowledged consulting with assistant athletic trainer Patrick Steidle after appearing in discomfort early during Penguins practice Thursday. But after the session ended at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex in Cranberry Township, the goalie was all smiles when asked about the potentially-worrisome sequence for the Penguins.
Jason Mackey
3:14
Haha. I'm aware. I'm the one who asked him about it.

VGN the best handled expansion ever?  They won additions and other teams won by subtraction.  Really great to see vs the bumbling Browns.
Jason Mackey
3:15
They're different, because of the expansion draft rules that stem from the steep price that Bill Foley paid to get into the NHL. Definitely shouldn't be comparing Vegas to the Browns. Ever.

Strictly speaking on the regular season, which Penguin is the "most improved" this year?
Jason Mackey
3:16
Good question. I think I'd go with Brian Dumoulin. ... I like what he's blossomed into -- better offense, leader, great PK guy, great one-on-one defender.
Steven

With Sprong being waiver eligible next year, he'll have to make the NHL team because he would certainly be claimed. Given the top 9 wing situation is pretty set in stone (Sheary, Hagelin, Guentzel, Rust, Hornqvist, Kessel) and ZAR likely knocking around on that door too, do you think the Penguins will look to move Sprong for a more bottom 6 style prospect?
