Do you think Sullivan would consider playing Jooris on the 4th line?  Reese-Jooris-Rowney or Kuhnackl?
Jason Mackey
1:43
Jooris is in Wilkes-Barre at the moment. Sullivan is keeping the fourth line, as he might say, status quo with ZAR-Rowney-Kuhnhackl.

When is it time to stop apologizing for #58?  Boom or bust player that has far too many costly busts vs the few booms.  Other than the contract I can't see why he is't the salary crunch answer this off season
Jason Mackey

So you want them to buy Letang out? That's probably the only thing they could do. I get that Letang has had some issues, but you're going to have that with him. This isn't new this year. He takes chances. Sometimes they blow up. In my opinion, you live with the bad and embrace the good. In terms of concerns I have about the Penguins right now, Kris Letang's play honestly isn't very high on the list.

If Pittsburgh wins this series again, do the Caps finally decide to blow it up?
Jason Mackey
1:45
I think Trotz is gone. I don't think they get rid of Ovechkin or Backstrom, if that's what you mean. I think the core will remain intact.

I noticed Sid blesses himself at the close of the anthem each game.  Do you have any knowledge of any players who openly make their faith known on the Pens?
Jason Mackey
1:45
I don't. Honestly, like politics, religion isn't something that gets talked about a lot. It's sort of taboo or whatever ... in the sense that people are going to look at you like you have three heads if you start asking about it.

Do you think Guentzel is someone who is kind of overlooked?
Jason Mackey
1:46
Not really. He got plenty of pub after Game 6. I do think we're guilty of talking about Murray and Rust being playoff guys, but Guentzel is right there. People were lukewarm on Guentzel during the regular season, but I think it was warranted. He was up and down a lot. It's easier to forget now.

What is the mood in the locker room?   Are they upset or discouraged over the injuries that are catching up with them?
Jason Mackey
1:46
Oh, no, not at all. Not even close. They're positive, happy, ready to get this series going.

Hey Jason!  Does Iceburgh travel to away games??  If so, I think there should be more cowbell at Cap One tonight.  Iceburgh always brings the best out of theteam, esp. Simon.  Your thoughts
Jason Mackey
1:47
He does not travel to away games, Bob. Sorry.
CJ

Do you think head shots should get a game misconduct? Thanks
Jason Mackey
1:47
If you determine it was a head shot, and not a hit to the head, sure. But you need to be sure you're recognizing intent, and I think that's hard to do.

Matt Murray will have to be on top of his game this series.  Do you think he will play better than the last few games?
Jason Mackey
1:48
I think Matt Murray will be fine. He's been fine outside of Game 6. Zero worries there. I think he's particular psyched for this series, going against his friend Holtby.

Is Gino at practice today make him a lock for Game 2 Saturday? Lastly do you agree Pens chances for 3 peat are squarely on the shoulders of Matt Murray?
Jason Mackey
1:49
No and no. Malkin was there in a non-contact capacity. More needs to happen. That said, watching Malkin, he looks really good. ... And no, there's much more to it than just Murray. Is Murray a big piece? Absolutely. But it's not just him.

Do you know why is Macy's closing at waterworks??
Jason Mackey
1:49
I don't. Is there a punchline here?
BH
1:49
Malkin is so underrated nationally with the exclusions from the All star game, top 100 list etc. However, do other teams underrate him too or do they seem him for what he truly is, a generational talent?
Jason Mackey
1:49
Yeah, that's an off-ice thing. Ask guys around the league, and they don't overlook Malkin. They also don't like playing against him. He's a pain to defend. Nothing taken for granted there.

I was encouraged by our PK in the Philly series.  Was that a matter of Jacques Martin drawing up something different, or the PK personnel executing better?
Jason Mackey
1:50
Actually had this conversation with someone ... but no, they haven't. They actually changed nothing. It's more just executing what they're supposed to be doing better. With you on the PK, though. Very encouraging series for that group.

Could  Claude Giroux be suspended for his hit on Hagelin even if his playoffs are over?
Jason Mackey
1:50
No, that ship has sailed. I think the NHL is fine with it.
Bob
1:50
How many years would you say 71 and 87 have left at playing at this elite level?
Jason Mackey
1:51
Too many to count, I know that. A lot of times you'll see signs -- stretches of poor play or trouble doing something. Have seen none of it. History tells us it'll happen probably within five years or so, but I've seen nothing to lead me to make an even semi-coherent prediction on that sort of thing.

Hi Jason, who are your top 5 head coaches in the NHL?
Jason Mackey
1:53
Sullivan (won the past two Cups; I don't see any other way to measure a coach) ... Babcock ... Cooper ... Gallant ... Laviolette. Honorable mention: Torts, Cassidy and Maurice.

Some optimism on a Thursday afternoon... 3rd year in a row Pens play game 1 vs the Caps on NFL Draft night.... It's like Deja Vu.  Three Peat is officially in order.  Go Pens and here is to that game changing ILB falling in the Steelers lap tonight!

Positivity? You're not allowed to have that here. They can arrest you for that I think.

Jason, I know you like Murray and I do too but despite your earlier articles (before the first round), that everyone shouldn’t worry about him, he again played very inconsistent
Jason Mackey
1:56
You're entitled to your opinion, and I respect it. But what was his GAA, 2.20? Games 5-6 were so-so. I thought he was off in Game 6, Game 5 more a function of the play in front of him. I still think the Penguins are in tremendous shape with him.

Jason, I like Murray just like you do, but despite your articles before the first round not to worry about him, he did not play great against the Flyers and was very inconsistent. I am worried about him because he’s not the rock he was the last two years, for whatever reason, and I think he may be playing with a slight injury. Are you any more worried about him after the first round than you were before and are his issues mental or physical? I don’t see them winning another series againt the Caps this year if he doesn’t outplay Holtby like he used to....
Jason Mackey
1:57
Think I got this partial question before. Again, I'm not worried about Murray. He's not hurt. That day at practice ... he took a puck in a sensitive area. In my opinion, he had one truly bad game -- and they won. It's OK. They'll be fine.
