How seriously injured do,you think Geno and Hags are? Are they a game or two from coming back or do you think they are out this series or longer? I know injury info this time of year is like cracking Fort Knox...
Jason Mackey
1:58
Not that serious. I'll bet Malkin is back for Game 2. Hagelin for Game 3. They're both skating, which is good. Have seen both walking around. They look fine. I don't think it's anything to be overly concerned about.

i notice Ruhwedel struggling more the Oleksiak, am I wrong about that?
Jason Mackey
1:59
Eh ... we're splitting hairs. They both have had better game. I thought Ruhwedel was shaky, too. Not sure I can say who struggled more or less, but I don't think Ruhwedel was perfect and it was Oleksiak dragging down the operation, if that's what you're getting at.

Who on the Pens can tango with Tommy Wilson if need be?
Jason Mackey
2:00
Jamie Oleksiak. That's about it. ZAR would probably try, but I might give the edge to Wilson in that one, even though ZAR is decently tough.
UFA: Rowney

Jason, who are UFAs & RFAs after this year?
Jason Mackey
2:01
RFA: Sheahan, Simon, Rust, Kuhnhackl, Oleksiak ... Sprong the most notable in the minors.

How about a special edition of the Mackey Chat tomorrow to give us all a chance to breakdown Game 1?
Jason Mackey
2:01
I have nothing against it. I'll talk to my bosses.
Dan

Should we expect Malkin back for Sunday's Game 2 considering that he traveled and participated in morning skate Thursday? What's your gut feeling?
Jason Mackey
2:01
My gut feeling says he plays on Sunday.

What is your thinking on how long Geno is out...any idea what exactly or slightly more specifically.
Jason Mackey
2:01
I think he's back Sunday.

The Pens player that will have to most pick up the slack with no Geno in the lineup is....?
Jason Mackey
2:02
Derick Brassard. He's shown signs. Watch that line tonight. Betting it's very good.

After the first round, do you think there are any players for the Pens that need to improve or up their game against Washington?
Jason Mackey
2:02
I think Phil has more to give. Didn't shoot it a ton. They need him without Malkin. Didn't set the world on fire on the PP, either. I think Phil is due a big rebound here.
Rob

Did you watch the Leafs/Bruins game last night?  Jake Gardiner was a disaster.
Jason Mackey
2:03
Someone compared him recently to Letang. Thought that was interesting. Made me chuckle a little, but it's not wrong. I also don't think Gardiner is a terrible D man. Just all over the place sometimes.

Do you think Hagelin has a concussion?
Jason Mackey
2:03
No. They usually specify that.
RPK
2:03
Will the Pens adapt to defending the pass to Ovie in the left slot on the PK, or will they leave him open for a one timer as in the past?
Jason Mackey
2:04
I don't think that was a tactical goal, to allow him to be that open. To answer your question, I think they're going to try to pay special attention to Ovechkin and take that away. That said, all teams say that. It's harder to do it, obviously.

And with the #28 pick in this years NFL Draft, the Steelers select...

Ian Cole.

Jason, what do the Penguins need to do to shut down the Capitals again? Are we seeing their prime championship resilience and depth kick in?
Jason Mackey
2:05
They need to get something from their bottom-six ... manage the puck better and not give the Capitals a ton of easy, transition chances ... they need to have the better special teams ... and they need Murray to be really, really good. Not exactly rocket science, I know, but it's often not.

Has the coaching staff talked about why Dumo seems to play so well against Ovi?
Jason Mackey
2:06
I know they like having that matchup -- and will probably get it. I don't think they sit around in a room saying, "Oh, wow, Dumoulin is so good against Ovie ... and then toast to it or anything like that."

What’s the green ribbon coaches are wearing on their lapels signify?
Jason Mackey
2:06
It's showing their support for the Humboldt Broncos.
Pens4Life

You’ve mentioned a few times about Pierre McGuire getting a bad rap. Why do you think that is? He doesn’t bother me and obviously knows the game.
Jason Mackey
2:07
I think people get annoyed by his style. Can come off as a know-it-all. Also how I think he says "Kristopher Letang" and Olli MAH-ta." Other than that, I don't understand it. He's very nice and very smart.
Pens4Life
2:08
Kills me to be a Debbie Downer, but I have a hard time believing we can beat Washington again. I understand we’ve owned them throughout our playoff history, but you have to think this Caps team is coming into this saying “no way they’re doing it to us again” and be beyond motivated. But we do have that psychological advantage over them. Think I’m in the minority with that?
Jason Mackey
2:11
Yes, I do. But I understand where you're coming from. At some point the Capitals have to figure it out, right? You'd think so.
Pens4Life
2:11
What’s your series prediction?
Jason Mackey
2:11
Pens in six.
Pens4Life
2:11
No Geno or Hagelin for game 1. As has been discussed here before, getting injury information is impossible, but is there a chance this could be more serious than day-to-day as the coaching staff has indicated? If so, do you think they can win this series if either or both is out for an extended period?
