I don't think it's more serious, I'll say that. As I've typed, I think Malkin comes back for Game 2, Hagelin possible for Game 3. ... If they both miss the entire series, then, yes, I think it would be tough. But I don't think they're going to have to worry about that, honestly.

Jason – I’m sure you don’t get it as often as local TV reporters and anchors, but do you ever get stopped by readers because someone recognizes you? Anyone ever say something less-than-flattering? I was a news anchor and reporter for 15 years, and there was always that one guy or two who made sure to tell me how unimpressed with me he was.
Jason Mackey
2:13
Ha. I don't get it much, to be honest with you. It has happened, but I wear a hat a lot when I'm out. Maybe that helps. Nobody has ever overtly told me I sucked, although I'd probably smile and laugh if they did.

What are the keys to the series for the Pens?
Jason Mackey
2:13
Puck management ... depth scoring ... Murray and winning the special teams battle, IMO.

How much do you think it takes Geno and Hags to get back playing with the boys on the ice? Game 2?
Jason Mackey
2:14
I think Geno will play. I think Hagelin for Game 3.
Mat
2:14
Do you think Sullivan was about to pull Murray but changed his mind when Hornqvist scored and made it 4-3?
Jason Mackey
2:14
Yes, I do.

Could the Pens go back to putting Maatta with Ruhwedel and Oleksiak with Schultz? The team seems set on Ruhwedel, even though Hunwick would let Oleksiak be on the right-side
Jason Mackey
2:15
No, I see Sullivan keeping the same pairs and leading heavy on his top-four. I think he'll try to play Oleksiak and Ruhwedel as sparingly as possible.

If you look at the roster now, Rowney is the only UFA. Is there a good chance the Pens could return almost 100% of this lineup next season?
Jason Mackey
2:15
There is, yet. I think they'll tender all the RFAs, too. There won't be much turnover.
AR

definitely an underrated passer, I think as good as sid (at least on the forehand), but can we get kessel to shoot more
Jason Mackey
2:15
Preaching to the choir here. Especially if we're talking about Sullivan. Fire it, Phil.

Why are all the national media picking the Caps to win? They’re solid but is there some improvements I’m missing about them from last year?
Jason Mackey
2:15
I haven't seen a ton picking the Caps. Maybe I'm missing what you're seeing.
GoPens

Considering no Malkin and Hags tonight, can this be considered somewhat of a must-win for the Capitals? I know that sounds silly considering its Game 1, but just trying to manufacture any sort of expectations for the Caps since they've handled them so well in the past.
Jason Mackey
2:16
Not a must-win, but it would be big for the Capitals to win tonight. For the series, sure, but also for their confidence. Would set off some alarm bells and cue panic if they lost.
AR
2:16
is the PK better just bec they are more committed to blocking shots?
Jason Mackey
2:16
No, it's much more than that. Getting clears has been big for that group. Pressuring the right way. Goaltending. It's never one thing.
AR
2:16
do you think sometimes glorious scoring chances are wasted bec shooters try to pick a corner and end up missing the net rather than just firing it? I find that kessel is guilty of that and often the puck leaves the zone
Jason Mackey
2:17
Yeah, I think this group can be accused sometimes of getting overly fine with shots. I'm always in favor of putting more pucks on net, especially when you have someone like Hornqvist on your team.
AR
2:17
Do you think they split games 1 and 2? I'm a bit concerned, don't think the pens will continue to win every road game, expect a L tonight and a close game 2....
Jason Mackey
2:17
I'm not sure. I think the Penguins will win tonight. Wanna see how that goes before I predict Game 2.
AR
2:17
btw, that Hornquist goal in game 6 against Philly was almost a carbon copy of the goal Rust scored against Caps in game 7 last year, no?
Jason Mackey
2:17
Believe so, yes.

Jason, how do I get in contact with the Post Gazette to be a sports writer for the Pens, Steelers, and Pirates?
Jason Mackey
2:18
Are you currently writing for a paper, with years of experience working a beat?
AR
2:18
is there an OT in our future? as un-enjoyable as they are when your team is involved, the pens haven't had one in a while. What say you? tonight?
Jason Mackey
2:18
I think we're long overdue for overtime. Sadly.
AR
2:18
If geno is out, who's going to take the "pull out your hair" penalties for the Pens? Letang?
Jason Mackey
2:18
Haha. They don't HAVE to occur. But if someone had to commit one, Letang would probably be a smart bet.

Will Jarry be the back up after WBS end their season?
Jason Mackey
2:18
No. They're happy with what DeSmith has done. I see no reason for them to make a change there.
AR
2:19
Will we see backup goalies this series?
Jason Mackey
2:19
I actually don't think so. I think Murray and Holtby stick throughout.
OK, folks. That does it. Thanks for participating. Have some more pregame stuff to do. Always love these. Talk to you next week.
