Derrick Pouliot has 23 points in almost a full season.  Minus 23 as well, though on a poor team overall.  Was there really no room on the Pens for this guy for depth?
Jason Mackey

It wasn't going to work here. Too many bad experiences. I think it was best for all parties to move on. Hindsight is always 20/20.

You're the best in the biz, Jason!       Looking forward to your playoff coverage!!!!
Jason Mackey
1:29
Thank you for that, although I don't know about that first part.

Whatever happened to the HBK line?
Jason Mackey
1:33
Well, Nick Bonino was traded, but if you mean seriously ... Hagelin is up with Malkin and Brassard is hurt.

If you could go back in time and go to any Grateful Dead show ever, which show would you pick to attend?  Take into account the music, the venue, etc.
Jason Mackey

I would go with the Alpine Valley run in 1989. 7/17-7/19. I don't think it's close. Maybe D.C. March 14-16, 1990. Also love 8/27/72, but it would be too darn hot.

I just wanted to say I am very sorry about the death of your father. The piece you wrote about your relationship through sports was beautiful, one of the best sports / life columns I’ve read in a long time. I read it twice then called my dad.
Jason Mackey
1:35
Aw, thank you very much for that. I'm glad you called your dad. Always a good thing to do. Love my dad and miss him more every day.

Any word on Angello? I know the Pens would want to sign him, but haven't heard anything buzzing around on his name since his season was over.
Jason Mackey
1:35
Likewise. Have no heard anything.

Also, I assume Ruhwedel left the ice before Hunwick?
Jason Mackey
1:36
Correct.

Hey, Jason.  Thanks for another chat.  Any word on Brassard?  Also, do you think ZAR will be a fixture on the 4th in the playoffs?
Jason Mackey
1:36
I think the verdict is out on ZAR. Probably his last chance tonight to make an impression. Nothing on Brassard. Asked Sullivan this morning, and he said he hasn't thought about whether Brassard would be ready for the postseason.

Jason, what are your 3 biggest concerns going into the playoffs for the pens? And do you think they can flip the switch?
Jason Mackey
1:37
1. Health. Always health. 2. Better defensive play. I think that'll be OK. 3. Matt Murray actually being Matt Murray.

If things hold, are the Devils the Penguins biggest threat in reaching the ECF?
Jason Mackey
1:37
I don't think so. Boston and Tampa are the best two teams in the East right now, in my opinion.

Since Tom Kostopoulos has announced he will retire at the end of this season, do you think the Penguins organization will offer him a coaching position?
Jason Mackey
1:38
I think they would love to have TK around in some capacity. I know he also wants to spend time with family. When he's ready, yes, I think they will bring him back in some capacity. Would make a great player development guy.

Jason, brassard back tonight?
Jason Mackey
1:39
No. He hasn't skated in eight days. Not until playoffs.

In baseball, righties wear the glove on their left hand. However, I have noticed that many goaltenders wear their glove on their left hand, implying they are righties, but use and puck handle with a left handed stick. Would you explain and/or comment?
Jason Mackey
1:39
I'm not sure what you're looking for me to explain, Avi.

WHAT IS THE MOST REWARDING PART OF YOUR JOB?
Jason Mackey
1:40
When you write something well and get a good story and people are talking about it. There's nothing quite like feeling that connection with readers.

Jason, do you have a nickname?  I was thinking J-Mac.
Jason Mackey
1:40
Yeah, back in the day, I heard that one. Have always gone with my last name a lot. Always preferred that to Jason.

Jason, Ian Cole was a serviceable 4-6 D-man, when did he suddenly become the difference between the Penguins losing in the playoffs and Blue Jackets winning the Stanley Cup?  Obviously I missed something as to his talent level over the past few years!
Jason Mackey
1:41
Who said any of this? Strikes me as hyperbole. Are people really freaking out that much over losing Ian Cole?
Jeremy
1:41
Hey Jason, where do you think that the Penguins will end up in the standings?
Jason Mackey
1:41
I think they'll win tonight and wind up with the No. 2 spot in the Metro.

Does Crosby prefers having a lefty or righty on RW? Have you looked into which is better statistically?
Jason Mackey
1:43
I have not. It has rotated so much, that could take a while. Ha. ... I honestly have never had him talk much about a preference. I don't think it much matters.

Goals are up league wide, making our defense look worse than it is. But it still seems to have taken a hit since trading Cole. Are the break downs fixable or is it a personnel issue?
Jason Mackey
1:43
I think they're easily fixable. It's also not just defense. The forwards are just as guilty. But it's a diligence thing. I think the Penguins will be more responsible come playoff time.

Hi Jason, can’t wait for the post season to start. I have a mixed feeling about the real face of these Penguins : will they be able to regain their January/february form and be dominant and a real cup contender? Will they continue to be so inconsistent that even a first round exit is possible?
Jason Mackey
1:44
I'm sure it's possible, but I see this group advancing to the Eastern Conference final. I think they'll clean up their game enough to get there. Whether they can beat Boston or Tampa, I'm not as confident there right now.
