Jason,  Is it fair to ask that in trading Hagelin , the Pens would continue to lose what was their calling card, overwhelming speed?

Not if they adequately replace it. Thomas Di Pauli comes to mind. He can fly. I'm not saying that's going to happen or should happen, but they do have other fast places. Plus, speed is also a system thing, not how fast they move their skates.

I think PigPen is underrated, sure, but a lot of folks think he is overrated because he died so young. I'll give you a crazy idea - Jerry Garcia is the most underrated Dead member. Most people don't even know that he fronted the band, which is pretty heavily underrating a fella if you ask me?

Good line. But I do agree with you. I think some people don't realize how good of a guitar player Jerry was in his prime.

Can we just say it: Doumolin is the Pens best defenseman and he's an elite NHL defenseman. I'm sick of him always being called "solid".

JR was on fire.  Since the last Cup win we saw the weird Reeves epiphany, Hunwick, Niemi, and a so so trade deadline.  Is it fair to say he has had a bit of a reversion to the means and cooled off?

ZAR and Simon seem to be borderline NHL players at best this juncture.  TK ( weird love affair and all the Pens seem to have) and Rowney are offensive black holes. Sheary just doesnt fit into tighter checking of playoffs.  These guys dont seem to be the filler on a Cup contender. Is there someone u think has another level?

The first two, for sure. I think Sheary can be better. Rowney won't be on the team next year. TK is what he is. ... But if you have two other decent offensive players on your fourth line, TK isn't a liability.

Where do you put sprong next season? On a line with sid or geno? Or on the third line and hope he can be a driving force on that line like kessel has done previously.

I think you tinker. I'd start with Sid and work from there. Maybe start Hornqvist with Malkin and Kessel with Brassard and try to let that chemistry build. I could honestly see Sprong playing with Crosby, Malkin or Brassard.

What do you think about making the goalies wear less padding in order to increase NHL scoring? I know the commish is open to the idea, specifically making the leg pads smaller. Same protection, but less space.

I love it. I think they wear too much equipment. Murray wouldn't like hearing that, but it's my personal opinion. I think it makes a lot of sense, as long as you're not sacrificing safety. In this case, you wouldn't be.

When will the NHL wake up and realize that Phoenix doesn't deserve a team and move them Coyotes up to Quebec City where they belong? When ?

Phoenix doesn't have a team. Glendale has a team. That's problem No. 1. But, yeah, Quebec City should have one, whether it's the Coyotes, Carolina or Florida. My goodness is that building great. Town's amazing. Should have an NHL team.

If Jerry Garcia were alive today, would he be one of these corporate sellouts who appear in iPhone commercials and try to sell us retirement plans or would he still be a top notch rocker who gives the finger to authority and rocks hard and loud every night? The Dead ruled, Mackey. You know it and I know it and they will always be the best rock band of all time. The Beatles are #2 and The Stones/Who are #3.  Thanks for a great season, JM!
