Do you think the Preds having almost a week off could be a disadvantage for game 1? We saw a lot of teams during the season come back with a loss after their week off
Jason Mackey
1:46
It could be. Especially because the Predators have no experience navigating a bunch of rest before the Cup Final. All of this is new to them.

Do you think that Rutherford received some calls about Fleury? If Penguins will play in the finals they will have only couple of days to trade him.
Jason Mackey
1:48
I don't think that will be a problem, No. 1. I think other teams are also probably respectful of a GM in the middle of a playoff run. When the Penguins do finish, I would expect Jim to field a lot of calls and probably do something in short order.

Jason - How much stock do you put into the referee assignments for tonight - Wes McCauley and Dan O'Halloran. Pens have not played great with McCauley calling the game.
Jason Mackey
1:49
I wouldn't put much stock into how the Penguins play when a certain ref works the game. I do think the NHL went this route because they want to take control of the game early. As I've said, I think there's a reason here; they're going to call penalties early and try to set a ton.

We saw sheary bounce back after being scratched last yr in ECF. If hes in tonight will he have an impact?
Jason Mackey
1:49
I think he will. He even talked about that experience last year and how he's going to draw from that. Whether it's tonight or in the Stanley Cup Final, I don't think we've heard the last this season from Conor Sheary.

Consistent forechecking was crucial in the Washington game 7 and the Pens last win vs. Ottawa. Why don't they commit to a consistent forecheck? A lot of skate bys.
Jason Mackey
1:51
I think the Penguins have been fine with this the past three games, honestly. First three in this series, I get your point. But they've played well since the start of Game 4.

Will we see sens go after 87 again tonight?
Jason Mackey
1:52
I'm sure. It just depends on whether they're smart enough to do it legally or not.

With the possibility of more cap space do the pens go after a D-man in free agency?
Jason Mackey
1:52
Yeah, I think that's a reasonable get for them: a depth defenseman. It more than likely won't be a top-pairing guy, though.
Dawid
1:53
Do you think that Anderson will make again 30-40+ saves and win this game for Senators?
Jason Mackey
1:54
No, I don't think he's capable of having the same performance he did in Game 6. He might have to make that many saves because of the Penguins offense, but it won't be in a winning effort, in my opinion.

Based on your response above, you would protect 8 skaters....letang, maata, shultz, and either cole/dumo on D. So, your four O skaters would be Crosby, Malkin, Kessel and ? Rusty or Horny for that 4th spot?
Jason Mackey
1:55
If they go that route, probably Rust. But the more I think about it, honestly, the less I like it. Like I said before, I'm not totally decided yet on what I'd do. I'm just saying I'd think about it.
RPK
1:55
You would protect Maatta? Awfully Slow skater and turnover machine.
Jason Mackey
1:56
That's not how I would describe his game these playoffs. He's been their best defenseman.

if cullen doesnt come back and we dont resign bonino are sundqvist and rowney our 3rd and 4th line centers or we sign someone
Jason Mackey
1:56
Could be. I also don't think it would be terribly difficult to sign a depth guy to fill one of those spots. That will depend on the market, I'm sure. But if they had to use Bonino and Sundqvist there, I don't think they would have a problem with that.

That's okay Jason. They are a really good team and maybe I'm not taking them seriously and I recognize that this is a mistake. Only I want it's in the end, the Penguins win the Cup. Thanks for the answers. I hope we'll see in the next week for the SC!!
Jason Mackey

My pleasure! Thank you for participating.

Don't you think Fleury probably wants to be traded after being pulled despite playing great?
Jason Mackey
1:57
Yeah, I think Fleury would welcome a trade at this point. He wants to play, primarily because he knows he still can. I don't blame him at all.
Charlie
1:57
If Murray is still tech. considered a rookie this season why is he eligible for the exp. draft?
Jason Mackey
1:58
He's an NHL rookie, but I believe the rule is for the number of pro seasons. Hence why Sundqvist is eligible.
Pope
1:58
Jason, you need to do two chats a week!
Jason Mackey
1:58
Ha. I would love to, but there has not been a lot of time recently with playoffs. Been busy traveling and writing stuff for the web and paper.
1:59
OK, folks. That does it. Going to get some rest before the big game. Talk to you tonight from the rink. Thanks, as always, for participating!
