Anytime.

Saw on your Twitter bio that you're a runner.  Have you ever done the Pittsburgh Marathon or any road races?
Jason Mackey
1:54
I have not, but I'd like to in memory of my dad.

The ongoing joke around town is... what do the Steelers and Pirates have in common?   On average, they each win about 1 game per week.  But now the Pens have only won 1 game in the last week too.   What gives?
Jason Mackey
1:54
Easy, Tony. They'll be fine. They've lost two in a row. Although from the sound of it, you'd think the sky was falling in.

I think Wilson being suspended removes not only a major irritant, but also a major temptation for the Pens to seek retribution....which would lead to a Caps power play...which would lead nowhere good.  I know the Pens are (usually) disciplined, but not having the temptation will be a plus.
Jason Mackey

Sure. I think that's fair. And Wilson -- like him or not -- is a major element of physicality who was on the Caps top line. There's very real repercussions of him being out.

RE: Hits to the Head, The NHL needs to move towards what's  happening in College Football.  Call any hit to the head as a major penalty, with an automatic video review -- with Toronto having the ability to stop play for the review.  So Wilson's hits on Dumolin and ZAR triggered for review by Toronto.  Treat it like a goal review -- if it's deemed a penalty via review, go back to that point in the game and give the penalty.  If not, game on.  And then get rid of offsides and goalie interference reviews, so the 'wasted time' balances out!
Jason Mackey

I'm all for it, Matt. Whatever the league does to take head shots out of the game, I'm all for it.

Who was the toughest interview to get as far as having the subject  finally open up and surprise you with their candor once you broke through the wall?
Jason Mackey
1:59
I would probably say Sid. Not that he's mean. He's one of the nicest people ever. But he's very rehearsed. When I went up there and got him to talk about specifics on things and some fun details ... that was awesome, something I'll never forget.

If the Pens don't get it done in these next few games, this will be the last weekly chat of the season.   Just want to say thanks for doing this Jason, very appreciative of all the hard work you do in keeping us informed!
Jason Mackey

Good point, Billy. Ha. Thanks for participating, as always.

Do you think the turnovers the capitals forecheck has created are the result of their players forcing them or more so the pens D men being careless with the puck?
Jason Mackey
2:00
A little bit of both, but probably more of the latter. It's nothing they haven't seen before. And the Penguins should theoretically be handling it better than they are. But it's not just the forecheck.

who wins tonight and what's the score?  What does your crystal ball say?
Jason Mackey

Going with Penguins 4, Capitals 3.

When you host on the radio and there is a commercial break, do you continue to engage in conversation with the co-host, or do some flip a personality switch and become cold towards you?
Jason Mackey

Hello Mr. Starkey.
Steve

Even though the Pens are down, the series has actually been pretty even so far.  Calls go against us in game 2, but there's a razor thin margin.  And if Hagelin plays tonight the Caps are really getting a full Pens squad for the first time this series.  Do you think that will tip the balance, or are the Caps for real this year?
Jason Mackey
2:01
I think having Hagelin back will be a big deal. I think the Penguins win tonight and take the series in seven.

I am pleading for Kessel to do anything at this point other than turning over the puck. What's going on?
Jason Mackey
2:02
He's not moving his feet enough, not playing in the traffic. That's what they're trying to get him to do. Needs to engage more. It's a different kind of series for him. Not a great matchup.

Last week, I shared optimism with it being draft day and Pens game one vs the Caps for the 3rd straight year.  Today, I continue that optimism and the Pens are going to come out and win 4-1 tonight, win 3-2 Saturday, and close it out Tuesday with a 7-1 throttling to ensure Wilson doesn't play again until next season! Cheers

Thanks, Greg. Appreciate the thoughts.

A zombie outbreak has occurred on the South Side, like every weekend.  What three Penguins would u want with you past and present to help you survive?
Jason Mackey

Am I trying to have a good time or make it out alive. Those are drastically different answers.

Hey y’all from just outside our nation’s capital. Go Pens go. It’s about time Tom Wilson was suspended. A 3 time loser who should have gotten more than 3 games. I know the Pens will take care of biz and go back to DC tied at 2.
Jason Mackey
2:03
Thanks, Dorry.

I used to live in the Burgh about 10 years ago and have only been back a few times since... my colleague is heading up in a few weeks for a Kenny Chesney concert and asked what he should do?  Besides getting a Primanti Bros sandwich, what are the spots nowadays?
Jason Mackey
2:04
Go to Tako. Great place. Or Meat & Potatoes. Sight-seeing is intuitive. North Shore. Swing through Bloomfield and Lawrenceville.

Bring back Ian Moran!!!!

To survive: Caufield, Asham and Godard. To have fun: Cole, Tocchet and Rutherford.

When is Jake Guentzel due a raise? Can we afford him after 2 straight years of outstanding playoff performances? I saw a stat for playoff points that included Mario and Gretzky. Wow
Jason Mackey
2:05
His contract isn't up until after next season, but you can assume that they'll get something done long-term with him.
2:06
OK, folks. That does it. Need to get out of here and move my car. Stay safe. Enjoy the game. Talk to yinz next wek.
