I think he and the rest of the Capitals have been absolutely hilarious.

Is the Stanley Cup the coolest looking trophy in all of sports or is the Indy 500 trophy or a different one?
Jason Mackey
1:25
Stanley Cup, easy.

Hey Jason, your frequent references have piqued my interest - is Sudden Death available on DVD or Blu-Ray?  I'd like to buy and watch.
Jason Mackey
1:25
Wait, you don't already own it?

Do you ever get to talk to any of the Pens about non-hockey stuff and have some stories you can share? Favorite TV shows you guys can gush about, things like that?
Jason Mackey
1:27
Ha. Yes. But that's generally off-the-record stuff you're not supposed to share ... and it goes away if you do. So I shut up. ... I don't watch enough TV shows to hold a conversation, honestly. Talk to ZAR a little about music. That was on-the-record. He's been into classic rock and blues and such. Murray and I have a good relationship. We'll talk about his dogs, my son, etc. Know this: They're pretty much all exceptionally nice people, the genuinely nicest being Sidney Crosby.

Hello, Jason Mackey!  How do the Pen's visitor's locker room compare to the other arenas?
Jason Mackey
1:28
Hi Kathy. It's average. Some -- Detroit, Vegas come to mind -- are incredible, the newer ones. Some -- Boston, Dallas, Carolina and Washington -- stink; your closets are probably larger. Pittsburgh falls right in the middle of the league.

Jason, as tensions between Trump and Canada increase, are we in danger at all of seeing an issue with Canadian teams participating in the upcoming NHL season? A lot of talk out there is that work visas, travel, etc. could be restricted and this could put the NHL in a real bind. Despite your platform to create awareness and change, you've been reticent to criticize an administration that supports despots like Un and Putin, but if the NHL is impacted it impacts (potentially) your livlihood how will you feel? I worry about how things like this will impact not just you but the many great NHL reporters all over the US. I'd hate to see layoffs, etc. Are you concerned about this and has the PG given you an assurance that you'll keep your job even if the NHL doesn't play next season?  Good luck, Jason!
Jason Mackey
1:29
I'm not concerned. I think we should let politics exist in that realm and talk about the Penguins (and a few light-hearted topics) here.

If the Pens had a top 5 draft pick and selected an NHL ready player, how many years before HCMS would actually let him play?
Jason Mackey
1:29
That depends. Does Dominik Simon has a sibling in the draft?

HOw many rounds is the NHL Draft?
Jason Mackey

Seven.

Have you been to the hockey HOF in Toronto? Is it any good? How does it compare to Canton or Cooperstown?
Jason Mackey
1:30
I've been to it three times. Once when I was little, twice on the beat. Went to Canton once, in eighth grade. Never been to Cooperstown, although I've always wanted to go. ... It's hard to say. I think it's incredible. I can get lost for hours in there and have. But I can't accurately speak on the other places.
NHL FUTURE
1:31
Jason, reading today about Trump targeting the NHL next year in order to stick it to Trudeau, kind of like he's been putting pressure on the NFL and its owners. HOw would the NHL operate without its Canadian teams for a season or two? Would the Players on Canadian teams be reassigned to US teams? Could some non-NHL US cities get NHL teams temporarily until Trump is ousted and imprisoned?
Jason Mackey
1:32
This is the last one of these we're fielding, folks. I hate to censor this stuff, but it's not a story. And we're absolutely not delving into politics here. So, please, let's let this go.

Would it surprise you if Sprong asked for a trade?  It must have been frustrating watching a less-talented player like Simon get all that ice time in the playoffs.
Jason Mackey
1:33
It would surprise me. I think Sprong likes it here. I think he likes playing with Crosby. I think Sprong realizes what he has here, too. He's a scoring winger who needs others to help get him the puck, and he's on one of the best offensive teams in the league. His best course of action is to shut up, play and produce.

We've been linked to Domi heavily by Elliotte Friedman recently. Can you see a trade involving their 1st, Domi and Kessel? Also, Craig Custance reports that Green is being offered a contract. Can you see them shipping out AA because of cap? Could pens land him for Sheary, Jarry and a pick in your opinion? Thanks Jason.
Jason Mackey
1:34
I don't know what a package to land Domi would look like, but I think the Penguins would love to get him. I don't think Phil would want to go to Arizona, for reasons mentioned above, and no, I don't see them shipping out AA. He doesn't make that much, and he's a good young player, even if he's kinda difficult. Detroit needs to keep all of those guys it can.

Who is the NHL player in recent history who is most like T.O. in terms of temperment?
Jason Mackey
1:34
I don't think the NHL has anyone even close to TO.
Jason Domitrovic
1:35
Jason Mackey. No, John Domitrovic is not my dad. My dad’s name is Richard Domitrovic. My father was born and raised in Pittsburgh to a Croatian family. I would personally like to know more about John Domitrovic to find out some family history if possible as I’ve been trying to contact more relatives that I don’t know of. A lot happened to the Croatian families when they immigrated to the USA. Any contact info you could give me would certainly be appreciated. Jasondomitrovic@mac.com.
Jason Mackey
1:36
John Domitrovic works at PPG Paints Arena. He predates the Penguins, and he may be the nicest man who ever lived. I don't have his number, unfortunately. But I did write this story about him and others: http://www.post-gazette.com/sports/penguins/2016/12/30/Old-news-is-goo...
200 Feet
1:36
At $4 million per year or more, shouldn't the Pens top four D be good enough such that Malkin and Crosby would not be required to play a 200 foot game until the playoffs?  Getting the puck out of the defensive zone seemed to be a chore this year
Jason Mackey
1:37
I think that's fair, but no matter how good your defense is, the centers (and forwards) have to help from time-to-time. That's not asking too much, for them to be a little defensively responsible. But I'll agree with you that, as a team, the Penguins didn't defend well enough this past season.

Jason, to a point you made earlier regarding international talent - What is the name of the player the Pens are scouting in the Congo? I think that is awesome and would make a great story. Thanks for the coverage!
Jason Mackey
1:37
Yeah, I need to find that out myself. Would make a great note, as Davey often says.

JASON!  The news of your anti-Train bias has made it all the way to France! Ha!      You're in it deep now, buddy!  Have a great summer and thanks for the articles!

Potential Free Agents and salary cap concerns aside, what do you see the biggest needs are for the Penguins roster? Do you really think they are a depth defenseman and forth line help away from being a top contender or does a bigger move (whether trade or free agent signings) seriously need to be considered? Thanks!
Jason Mackey
1:39
I would like to see them get Domi. Think about it: You move Hagelin .... maybe you get it to involve Jarry, Hunwick or Sheary. Some combination there. ... Hagelin is going to produce and make the deal look bad for a year, but he's 99.9 percent going to be gone after the season, and then you've traded one year of Carl Hagelin for club control over Max Domi. That's damn good. ... Other than that, yeah, a better fourth line and a legit third-pairing defense, and I think the Penguins are right there.

1:39
Would you roll the dice on Joe Thornton? 1yr. 2-3mil? Good locker room guy and. Can still produce
Jason Mackey
1:41
I think it complicates things at the center-ice position. Also, he was relatively productive on an $8 million/year contract. I'm not sure his decrease in pay is going to be that substantial.

What would Bobby Orr and/or Jerry Garcia have thought of the current climate of politics and sports in the USA?
Jason Mackey
1:42
This has to be the first question in the history of questions that combines Bobby Orr -- who is still living, by the way -- and Jerry Garcia.

How different of a team would the Pens have been if Will Butcher had signed in Pittsburgh, instead of New Jersey?
