Why are there so many grammatical & spelling errors in your articles?  Are they not proofread before published?
Jason Mackey
1:18
Thanks, Barry. Appreciate the kind words. Yes, they are. Obviously well enough. Ditto for my writing.

Jason what have you heard about the progress of WBS defenseman Ethan Prow and Jeff Taylor..? Is there a real need to re-sign Chad Ruehwedel ?
Jason Mackey
1:19
Can't say I've heard a ton, but I've been wrapped up with the Cup, parade, Vegas, etc. ... I think they will try to sign Ruhwedel because he can play at the NHL level, could be a seventh defenseman and not be insulted by it and would come cheap.

Will the Pens sign a veteran to back up Matt Murray? Any potentially strong candidates for that spot?
Jason Mackey
1:22
Yes, I think they will. Someone like Anders Nilsson could make a lot of sense.
Rick

92 versus 17, full strength squad, who wins 7 game series?
Jason Mackey
1:22
I think 1992. But it's close.

hey jason who is the next big signing rutherford will go after.
Jason Mackey
1:23
Do you mean Kessel-type big? If so, I don't think that's going to happen. But I think there are a couple areas of need that I outlined previously.

A lot of fans expressed concern with Murray's glove hand after Game 4 against Nashville, but I thought Murray's glove hand saved the day for the Pens in Game 6. You agree?
Jason Mackey
1:23
Does it need some work? Yes. Nobody's perfect. Is it a problem? The guy has won two Cups at 23. It can't be that big of an issue.

Welcome back, Jason. Well of course I'm extremely happy MM won the Stanley Cup for us by shutting it down there in the end. Sully has the pulse of his team and 2 Cups to prove it. The Pens couldnt take a chance of another MAF playoff meltdown, so I say good luck to him in Vegas. We'll get to truly see his mettle. Your thoughts?
Jason Mackey
1:24
I think Fleury will do a lot of great things in Vegas. I think he still has plenty of hockey left. And I also don't question how well Mike Sullivan knows what his team needs. It's awkward right now, sure, but I think this was the best move for all involved.

I was surprised when Rutherford said the Pens would shop for size/muscle to add to the defense. Do you think he meant adding just a little extra size/muscle as a compliment to the skaters on D, or will he push for an entirely different approach to how the Pens move the puck out of the D zone?
Jason Mackey
1:25
He never said he wanted size/muscle to add to the defense. You're mis-interpreting what he said. He said he wants a forward who can still skate well enough but has a little bit of nasty to his game.

Do you know where Fleury is putting on his clinic today?
Jason Mackey
1:25
I don't. Sorry.

Carolina just traded for Trevor van Riemsdyk, using the second rounder they got from Pittsburgh for Ron Hainsey.  Doesn't seem like a very low price for a playable defenseman under contract for two years at under a million a year?
Jason Mackey
1:26
Seems OK to me. Which side do you think got screwed?
dave
1:26
Do you think they want Trevor Daley back?
Jason Mackey
1:26
I think they would take him, but i think they're worried with everything else going on, what he would command wouldn't be doable for them. It's more of a business decision than anything they dislike with Daley.

Jason, what do you think is the Pens biggest weakness as the team currently stands?
Jason Mackey
1:27
This may sound silly, but they really do need a goaltender. What happens if Murray gets hurt? And that has happened a decent amount. Jarry may be ready. But he also may not. Would say either backup goaltender or a decent third-line center. I'm not ready to hand that job to Rowney or Sundqvist yet.

Why is the new goalie coach better for Murray than Bales was?
Jason Mackey
1:28
They have a history that dates back to Murray's junior days. Would encourage you to read this story: http://www.post-gazette.com/sports/penguins/2017/06/18/mike-buckley-pe...

Do you know of where fluerys street hockey clinic is going  to be at?
Jason Mackey
1:28
I don't. I'm sorry.
1:29
I just asked Vegas for details on Fleury after getting asked that a couple times here.
Jason Mackey
1:29
Do you think the NHL will ever do more to protect their stars like the other pro sports leagues do?
Jason Mackey
1:29
Am I talking to myself? I sure hope they do more. They need to. But, self, I have some doubts.

Now that the expansion draft is over and we didn't lose any forwards - yet.  What are your 4 lines on O next season throwing Sprong and Aston-Reese into the mix?
Jason Mackey
1:32
That's tough. I think it will take injuries to get Aston-Reese up here. I do see them giving Sprong a shot to earn a top-six role to start. Would love to see some combination of Sheary, Crosby, Sprong, Guentzel, Malkin and Kessel as the top-six. Maybe slot in Rust in spurts.

So Matt Cullen is most likely retiring, right?  Seems to be all signs pointing that way.  I would love to have Cullen back with the Pens for the 3-peat run.
Jason Mackey
1:33
I hear ya, but I think he just wants to be home with his wife and kids. There's no championship on the planet that can replace that.
Dolemite

Have you ever heard of discontent within the NHLPA over the apparent collusion re RFA's?  Just seems odd to me there's a borderline open agreement not to sign guys to offer sheets.
Jason Mackey
1:33
I have never heard any discontent within the NHLPA over that.
dave
1:33
Vegas took a lot of D-men.  Would the Pens be interested in trading for any of them?
Jason Mackey
1:34
I doubt it. I think Vegas is probably wanting to stockpile picks for more play-now types. They Penguins need youth, too. I'm not sure it's a match that works.

After seeing the expansion draft unfold, I would recommend that the draft be a public one in the order that they showed the selections but in front of the GM's. The Pens got conned into giving up a pick and had the selections been public, like a regular draft, the Pens would have known they needed another goalie and most likely would not have given up that pick. Thoughts?
