Has Vegas shown any inclination to trade their centers, they have five? I like Haula, Karlsson. Do you know if the Pens are looking in their direction?
Jason Mackey
1:53
I can't speak for the Vegas side. ... Rutherford also doesn't comment on specific players on other teams', but I can tell you that he's considered a lot of options. Use your head on who would fit, and I wouldn't be surprised if he's at least talked to George McPhee to learn of McPhee's situation and intentions for those guys.

Rutherford should sign Jagr and pair him with Sid he would score 40. Say 2 years 10 million.
Jason Mackey
1:53
Oh, yeah. Absolutely. No failed logic here at all.

Jason, they don't have to trade Hagelin or Hornqvist to Colorado. It could be a theee-way trade. I don't want to trade Sprong, but I don't think Maatta and a first, or Maatta and a roster winger, is unreasonable for Duchene. Would the Pens make that deal? If not, then they really wouldn't trade Maatta for any center because Duchene is probably the best 3C that fits the team that they could find
Jason Mackey
1:56
The destination of Hagelin is not the issue. It's that a team in the NHL would want them. ... Also, how is Duchene "probably the best 3C" the team could find? Would he want third-line minutes? How else would he produce? Who would he play with? He's making $6 million. You have to consider that. I also wouldn't trade a first-round pick for that. Not when you can acquire something similar for much less.

If Pouliot is going to make the team, won't he have to beat out Hunwick?  I doubt they signed Hunwick to have him be a healthy scratch every night.
Jason Mackey
1:56
You know the Penguins defense, Dave. There will be injuries. Somewhere. At some point. It will happen. And if they had to give him a night off from time-to-time, I don't think it would be the worst thing.

Sign Jagr to play with Sid
Jason Mackey
1:57
Got it, thanks!
Lemieux
1:57
If we don't sign a 3C I'll suit up and play 4th line like Cullen just for you guys and kill some penalties I need to pass Jagr in points
Jason Mackey
1:57
That's a pretty decent insurance policy.
Jagr
1:57
Sign me please!!!!!
Jason Mackey
1:58
I don't have that power, Jags. Otherwise I would.

The Penguins lost Daley Streit and Hainsey on the back end, did they do enough to offset that with the aqusitions of Hunwick and the return of Letang???
Jason Mackey
1:58
If you tell me Letang's going to be healthy and play at least 75 games, then I'd say yes. If not, and barring a huge, breakout season from Derrick Pouliot, I'd say no.

Who are a few names you would like to see the Penguins try to acquire for a 3C?
Jason Mackey
1:59
Tyler Bozak would be my target.

How much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck would?
Jason Mackey
1:59
A lot, I'm pretty sure.

Likelihood of Pens starting the season with Rowney and maybe Cullen at center only and not consummating a trade for a 3C until later in the season?
Jason Mackey
1:59
Not good. GMJR will get a 3C before the start of the season.

Jason, in your opinion, who do you think has the best chance at earning a regular spot in the lineup, if anyone, out of camp?
Jason Mackey

I'm really intrigued by Daniel Sprong. I think the organization would like to see him start in Wilkes-Barre, but I wonder if he may force their hand based on his productivity playing next to Sidney Crosby.

Who are the Penguins top 6 D this year? Do they keep the other two guys up or try to sneak them through waivers?
Jason Mackey
2:01
As of now, I'd go: Dumoulin-Letang // Maatta-Schultz // Cole-Hunwick ... Pouliot-Ruhwedel aren't far behind, either.

Are the pens any closer to getting a 3rd line center?
Jason Mackey
2:01
I think so. I wouldn't be surprised if it occurs within the next seven days or so, honestly.

Duchene would allow Kessel to play on the third line and Sullivan would spread out the minutes so that Sid and Geno re playing less in RS, which is a good thing. He would not be getting third line minutes, as you say. His speed and face off ability would be coveted, and would allow Sully to play his system. Not too many centers available you can say that about, so yes, I think he would the Pens best choice if they can fit in his salary, which they can if they can and will trade a roster player
Jason Mackey
2:03
All fair. I'm not trying to hate on the Duchene deal here. I just question how much a $6 million 3C is necessary in how teams are already forced to defend the Penguins' top two lines.
Joe
2:03
How about if we traded Sid for say a first line center and we get a 3C as well.   In turn we will still have a 1C and now a 3C and Sid is getting old better to trade him while he still has value.
Jason Mackey
2:04
Lemme get this straight: You want to trade Sidney Crosby?
Hogue the bear

I win in dynasty mode when I'm the GM a move I made was trade letang and 3 -2nd round picks and acquire ovechkin
Jason Mackey
2:05
Ha. You need to send that piece of advice to Rutherford. ... I question whether Alex Ovechkin is the answer at third-line center, though.

Jason, what makes you think Bozak is available and also that Toronto would trade him if he was to back to back Cup champs who they may be firing come playoff time? Also, does it worry you if they get him that the Pens will have to do this 3C trade search again next year since Bozak is a free agent?
Jason Mackey
2:06
I don't think it would worry them to do this search again, no. Who knows where they'll be at that point. Teddy Blueger could be a breakout star for all we know. ... I don't know Bozak is available, but I know there have been approaches and nothing said where he wasn't. Toronto has a lot of young, talented forwards, and they're relatively tight against the cap. Trading an older forward who they're going to lose after this season might ease some of that.

With Fisher retiring, do you think Cullen will do the same?
Jason Mackey
2:07
I don't think that has any influence on him whatsoever.
Frank

Who do you think this 3-c could be
Jason Mackey
2:08
It's too tough to pick from an entire pool of NHL players. I do really hope they sign one soon, though.
