Your nomination has been noted. But this current year's run has been spoken for. If we ever do another one ...
Bobby
2:00
On a scale of 1-10 how excited are you for this pirates season?
Jason Mackey
2:00
Is 8 or 9 too aggressive? I think it's going to be fascinating.
JR
2:00
would syndergaard fit in the rotation? I’m not sure he’s any better than anyone we already have in the hypothetical 4th and 5th spot. He’s also an extremely unpopular player especially here in Pittsburgh
Jason Mackey
2:01
So was Chapman, no? You do make a good point about fitting. Would rather they trade. Then if you're talking in addition, you still need to leave runway for young guys like Ro, Priester, etc.
Steve
2:01
If you had to guess, who will the Pirates takedown in the Fall Classic in 2026 when they inevitably win the World Series?
Jason Mackey
2:01
I thought they were beating the Yankees or Orioles -- haven't decided which, need to check with Starkey -- in 2027?
Jake S
2:01
I'm not sure if this was answered - if so, I apologize - but what was the reason for the Pirates targeting Olivares from KC? I like him, but thought the move was out of left field (no pun intended)
Jason Mackey
2:02
Good one. He was squeezed out of a spot. Good, young player with upside and who needs playing time. Playing time that they can afford him.
Sigmund
2:02
Jason, do the winter blahs have you a little on edge with respect to self aggrandizing chatters?
Jason Mackey
2:02
I don't think so, no.
Nathan
2:02
What does your trade package look like for Edward Cabrera?
Jason Mackey
2:03
Got this one, but basically a 2B competitor ... a 10-15 range prospects and a third guy (Joe, Palacios, lesser prospect, can be discussed).
Dan
2:03
If you had to guess, who would you say the starting second baseman is going into the season and why? Thanks!
Jason Mackey
2:03
Peguero. I like his energy and athleticism. I think there's a surprising amount of power. He's better on the right side of the bag. Has grown more comfortable with a plan at the plate. Super athletic.
Shane
2:03
Your predictions on who is moved off the roster with the Chapman signing? Thanks!
Jason Mackey
2:04
I'll go with Kyle Nicolas.
MjB
2:04
Is Vince Velasquez still an option, or is he done?
Jason Mackey
2:04
Eh, not a primary one. Him not being ready until June hurts his chances. Pirates need help from day one.

2:04
Odd the number of NRI announced so far, no? Feel like the number of players going to spring training on a try-out basis is usually higher
Jason Mackey
2:04
It will be as spring training gets closer. Nothing out of the ordinary for now.
Trey
2:04
Jason, would you have risked life and limb to see a Phish show? If no, no need to respond.
Jason Mackey
2:04
I would have risked limb. Not life.
Tom
2:04
Any word on Contreras current state?  Is velo back?  Rotation ready.  He’s out of options, yes?
Jason Mackey
2:05
Out of options, yes. Not much word, honestly. It's a pretty big mystery, other than I believe tweaking his delivery, adding a sinker and trying to diversify his spin stuff. Big question for the Pirates in 2024.
Dan
2:05
Hi Jason. Why don’t the Pirates go get a legit 1st baseman ?  Someone young enough to play there for several years and has proven power and defense capabilities.
Jason Mackey
2:06
Yeah, I mean, I thought they tried that last year. Probably worried about over-paying or they believe they can recreate it for cheaper with Joe and Tellez. Not sure they're wrong, honestly.
NP
2:06
I'm bullish on Henry Davis having a good year, but what if -- hypothetically -- the catching experiment fails? Would Delay just get the bulk of the starts or would they look for outside help? And where would that leave Henry defensively?
Jason Mackey
2:06
Yeah, depends on the type of fail. If Henry stinks so bad defensively that you can't play him, yeah, Delay as of now is your 1. I do think they will add some depth there in case Davis isn't playable. Ali Sanchez isn't an answer to me.
No way
2:07
Jason the interview with Bob Nutting tells me he isn't serious about winning, never has been, and he's hoping people keep paying into the con. I want to believe otherwise but he's done virtually nothing to prove me wrong.
Jason Mackey
2:07
Totally fair. You're allowed to feel however you want, and I would encourage you to vote with your dollar, however you feel.
Bad move
2:07
The Chapman move was a great one...if this was 2013
Jason Mackey
2:08
I don't agree with you. Not that I have to.
NP
2:08
Do you ever get tired of people saying "No one cares about the Pirates"? You've mentioned how strong your page views are and there is an incredible amount of content creators that aren't journalists who follow/analyze the team. People just want to see a winner.
Jason Mackey
2:09
A couple things: Covering the Pirates has been a tremendous career decision for me. I'm going on a third hour in this chat. The traffic, yes. We've done excellent business because of my Pirates work. I have a relationship with Westminster. I've met some amazing people and indulged my baseball love in ways I never could have imagined. But nobody cares about the Pirates? Riiiiiight. They care. They're mad, but they care.

2:09
Syndegard complained publicly about having to watch the “sh#*ty Pirates” on TV a couple years ago. If BC gets him, how will that sit with his new teammates?
Jason Mackey
2:10
Man, they would have said the same thing. He just happened to go viral for doing it. Reynolds would laugh. Hayes wasn't in the show. You think Cruz cares? If he can help them win -- I don't know if he can or not -- that's all that matters.
Wasteland
2:11
It was pointed out that legit, quality free agents don't want to come here because they know the owner is completely disinterested in winning. Dudes want to get paid but you would think they also play to win titles. They don't see Bob Nutting as an owner who wants to win. They see him as a con man only interested in making as money for himself as possible. Winning isn't part of the con
Jason Mackey
2:12
You're allowed to hate Nutting. It's not my job to defend him. But Reynolds and Hayes signed here. Russell Martin signed here. A.J. Burnett chose to come back here. So did Cutch. Again, feel how you want about Bob, but there are plenty who think that you can still win in Pittsburgh.

I had the "slobber" question.  Worded differently, i was asking if they just seem to really like any of their prospects more than any other.  Perhaps we can even limit it to the trio from the question - Chandler Jones Solometo.  Do people from the team seem to like one of those guys more than the others?
