Good Day Jason.  I love that Leyland took the high road in the Bonds' story.  It was something that kept his team in check, but in reality, it did nothing to represent his true feelings for Barry.  While we all knew that Barry was going to leave for more money, I wonder if Jim identified whether that moment was a sticking point for staying in Pittsburgh.  If I remember, the Pirates did not even make an offer to Bonds.  I would value your opinion if Leyland did not discuss this.
Jason Mackey
1:34
Huh? I'm confused. Leyland and Bonds are very close. Taking the high road? I don't think that moment was a sticking point for staying in Pittsburgh.

Do you think it's as likely that they add to the outfield as it is that they add to the rotation?  I could see them giving, i dunno, Jesse Winker a shot to bounce back in RF or something for a million bucs.
Jason Mackey
1:35
He would need playing time to do that. I think they want to allocate playing time differently. I wouldn't hate it, but I don't see it as terribly likely.

Surprised at all by the designation of CSN? Would’ve preferred him over Palacios
Jason Mackey
1:35
I was. But I would take Palacios over CSN 100 times out of 100. I think Palacios adds a decent amount off the bench.

I remember when we got Hudson Head that he was supposed to be solid. Numbers don’t show that. What do you think?
Jason Mackey
1:35
Yeah, I don't see much there, unfortunately. Not sure I'm picking him to be part of things.

When can I order my Pittsburgh Pirates 2024 World Series Champions shirt?
Jason Mackey
1:35
Should be 2027.

Who has the best season out of Roansy, Preisler, Ortiz or Jones?
Jason Mackey
1:35
I'll go with Roansy.
Paul Blart
1:36
If you had to guess right now, what starting pitcher will they acquire and who will they trade for him?
Jason Mackey
1:36
I think Edward Cabrera makes the most sense. I'd trade Bae or Gonzales ... plus a 10-15-ranked prospect and a third piece, like Joe or maybe a reliever.

Will cutch hit more than 10 home runs?
Jason Mackey
1:36
Yes. He'll hit 13.

Are the Pirates scouting the Caribbean Series for talent?
Jason Mackey
1:37
Yes, I'm pretty sure everyone does that.

There's only a few mid-priced FA Starters left on the market even worth signing & flipping like Chapman. If GMBC could somehow, someway arrange a Trade with Miami for either Edward Cabrera [RSP] ~OR~  Braxton Gattett [LSP] would Priester, Peguero (or Nick Gonzales) ~PLUS~ ANY  Pirates' Top Prospect between #15 & #30 be enough?  If not... going out on a limb for Trevor Bauer might be worth the risk at this point. (Don't the Dodgers still owe him $$$$?) He could come cheap on a prove-it deal. What the heck ever happened to giving a "eff-up" a 2nd chance?
Jason Mackey
1:38
Yes, I think that would be enough. I think there would need to be a third piece, but I think that would get it done. I think the aversion to Bauer is more overall personality fit than anything about a second chance. Not sure they're alone in that thinking.

Do tell what you’re hearing in terms of the expected starting pitcher trade as you referenced in an above answer. Please update us.
Jason Mackey
1:38
Pretty sure I've been doing that for nearly two hours, Moonlight. I think they will. Team control, younger guy, couple of prospects outgoing, blah, blah, blah.

Jason, I agree about adding a SP in a trade but of the veteran (scrap heap) guys still out there who do you like the best?
Jason Mackey
1:39
I'd take Blake Snell personally. Or Jordan Montgomery. Good with either one.
Tyler
1:39
Are the Pirates concerned or even aware that they have trouble developing talent?
Jason Mackey
1:40
I think it's still TBD, honestly. It's something they knew they needed to improve. They think they did. They like some of what they've done. Other parts remain a work in progress. Would call it an incomplete grade.

Is there any reality in which baseball can change? As the system currently stands I see no team from either Central division (maybe Cubs or Stl.) ever seriously competing again. I just don’t see the point of it anymore & it upsets me because I actually care.
Jason Mackey
1:40
Yeah, I have the same concerns. Needs a cap/floor, IMO. Would be fine with it shutting down for a year to make that happen.
Unfortunately. I agree with you. Not sure I ever see that happening.

How much time should Skenes spend in the minors this year? How do you balance innings pitched in the minors versus the majors?
Jason Mackey
1:41
I think his first couple starts will provide valuable info, along with spring. I'm fine with saying he should pitch in the minors. Strasburg did. He's thrown like 6 MiLB innings. Plus, you save a year of control. But if he makes a half-dozen minor league starters and he's just blowing doors, I mean, come on, what are we doing here?
Barry
1:41
When will BC get a deal done with Mitch Keller?  How many big league wins do you project for Paul Skenes?
Jason Mackey
1:42
I think spring is most likely for Keller at this point. ... I'll go six wins for Skenes. Tough this day and age because of how pitchers are used, especially in Pittsburgh.
Moonlight Graham

What happened to CSN?
Jason Mackey
1:42
They DFA'd him.

Pirates’ season this year: sugar magnolia, shakedown street, or fire on the mountain?
Jason Mackey
1:42
Sugar Magnolia. Tho and important note: have no idea what the heck you mean here.
Justin
1:42
who is your favorite "gone too soon" comedian?
Jason Mackey
1:43
George Carlin. ... Richard Pryor would be close. My dad would show me clips of both of those guys when I was WAY too young. Ha. And damn am I glad he did.

Are you getting excited for spring training?  What’s your favorite Anna Maria Island restaurant?
