Poor Jared. Ha. I do worry about that. It would be typical Pirates to keep those on the roster without options, don't make a move on those off the roster and send down guys with options. They very well might do that. But I think more likely is Jones just pitching so darn well that they can't. Saturday will be big for him.

Jason, In your opinion do you think Henry Davis will catch opening day and if you had to guess who do you think will be at the back end of the rotation to start the season?? thanks for doing this aswell!!

Yes, I do think Henry will be behind the plate for opening day. Filling out the rotation ... man, that's so tough right now. Most likely is probably Ro and Falter ... Priester and Ortiz to minors ... decision on Anderson (there's likely an opt-out, and he could go to the 'pen) ... starting Jones in Triple-A. ... Same time, I'd almost rather see Jones & Anderson. They've pitched the best. Nothing else should matter.

Have not heard a peep, Ed. Neither is in major league camp. I suppose they could break through -- would expect Nunez to get time at first with Indy -- but they sure seem like busts at this point. A real shame in Nunez's case. Thought he was closer to a prospect.

Guessing your previous one sent early ... they could try to sneak him through waivers. Doubt they're able to do that. Only other thing would be to keep him in the bullpen. I think they wanna get Ro figured out. He has shown flashes. It's one of the top things to determine over the final 13 days or whatever.

Not concerned at all. I'm batting Oneil leadoff every chance I get it. I love him in that spot. I'm confident his OBP will improve with age and experience.

Not to my knowledge, no. I still have a tough time seeing this work out. Pham should offers for me. It doesn't do the Pirates much good to allocate that much playing time to a 36-year-old who has a .717 OPS since 2020.

I've been saying 83-84 wins. I think the division is going to be weird. Nobody too good. Nobody too bad.

With the keller signing, how many more long term contracts do you think the pirates have left in the tank? Can they afford to sign Cruz longterm? Skenes?

I've gotten no indication they've been anywhere close on Cruz, sadly. I think Skenes is still far away. I think they could do one -- for now. Bednar or Suwinski would make sense, and they shouldn't break the bank.

I don't think we've seen enough to really know, but I will say this: Nothing I've seen renders him out of place. He's fine. Neither a liability nor great. Right in the middle of the pack.

Everybody's service time is affected if they're not on the MLB club. So, yes.

I saw a mock draft that had the wake forest 1b going to us. Kurtz I believe his name. Wouldn't mind it if he can move thru minors quick and solve 1b for us. Thoughts?

I think you're way down the line. I'm fine with Tellez & Joe for this season. What about '25? Termarr is the future at 2B, right? Would think. If Triolo plays there this season, cool. But I still think he's a solution at 1B beyond this year.

I don't see it. Rowdy and Joe at first. Other stuff to figure out in the outfield. I think he'll be a solid player at Triple-A, but I don't think he's here opening day.

Is Olivares in CF real or just a way to get him reps in camp? Assuming they do wind up with Pham (you know what they say about assuming) it might be the only way for him to have a role that makes sense on the MLB team. I scoffed at the idea when they got him but I could be sold on it.

I think they want Olivares to play. I think they should want Olivares to play. There are also plenty of numbers you can pull that say Olivares has been more productive than Pham over the past two seasons. Not saying they're all right. Also not criticizing Pham. But I don't think it's a move the Pirates need to over-extend themselves for. If they're gonna spend $5 million or so, how about some pitching?

I would never say never, but that was hot at one point ... and I don't think it's that way now. I also don't know the exact ask. Just that the price ultimately got really high from the Miami end.
