Hey Jason, what’s the word on Alika Williams being on the opening day roster?  I hope he is not, because he is absolutely terrible.
Jason Mackey
1:10
Have gotten this a bunch. Decision between him and Peguero. Does Peguero need more playing time? If Alika made it, it wouldn't be for much more than as a backup and late-inning defense.

So I guess the Chapman mom thing just kinda came and went, didn't it
Jason Mackey
1:10
Thank God. So weird.

What do you make of the Shohei controversy? Do you think he did gamble on games, and is a suspension in play here?
Jason Mackey
1:10
I haven't read enough on it to deliver any sort of informed take. Sorry.

Jason, Please tell me that Falter will not make the team. We are not better with him. I also think that we should give Anderson a shot. We can always cut him if he doesn't work out. I think he has pitched well enough to stay.
Jason Mackey
1:11
I would be surprised if he does. They could also DFA him rather easily & send him to Indy.

Lookup unlimited devotion at the Ardmore Theater. Now that you're no longer on the beat you could have time to go to events like this over the summer. If you make the trip, let me know and I'll buy you a beer!
Jason Mackey

Ooooh, very cool. Shoot me an email about it? Would love to go.

Why do you think it’s good to have Anderson and other NRIs in the rotation when the front office has attacked the draft for the last 4 years for pitching?
Jason Mackey
1:13
I mean, I would much rather have pitching from the past four drafts in the starting rotation. Not sure where that resides, where it's ready to be in the opening day rotation. Are you saying it should be Priester? Solometo & Chandler aren't ready.
Anthony

Congratulations on the new position!!! Are you going to continue to do chats?
Jason Mackey
1:14
Thanks, Anthony! And yes, I am. Some of them may be on video. Working through that.

Jason, as a blues man, did you ever consider heading across FLA and checking out 461 Ocean Boulevard?  Or would you rather head to Vermont or the San Fran hippie district for your jam band pilgrimage?
Jason Mackey
1:14
I don't have that type of time down here, unfortunately. Work every day, usually 10-12 hours. But that does sound fun. Thanks for the tip!

I dont know why everyone is so worried and negative in this chat. I ran 10,000 simulations on MLB 24 and we made the postseason 8 times!
Jason Mackey
1:15
People are shuddering just thinking about that.

Hey Jason ... if a team could only field a pitcher and a catcher, would they go 0-162??
Jason Mackey
1:15
You'd have to think so, right?

Marco Gonzales is coming off a serious injury.  Are there any lingering effects?  I know one shouldn't scout the box score during spring training but his numbers raise questions.
Jason Mackey
1:16
I don't think his issues have anything to do with his injury. Has left too much stuff over the middle of the plate. The secondary stuff has occasionally been there. It's also spring training. I'd try not to read too much into it.

Can you spot a major leaguer when you see one. Example
Jason Mackey

Paul Skenes looks like one.

Jason, if I'm in the bigs by May 15, I say you need to bring in that 'stache you and the better half have been raving about?  Then, let the comparisons commence.
Jason Mackey
1:18
Deal.
Tim
1:18
Why do you think they have stretched out Falter so much?
Jason Mackey
1:18
I think they wanted to see if he can start. I get why, but it hasn't been good enough.
Dr. Bob
1:18
My condolences for having to deal with Joe Starkey. Power through it.
Jason Mackey
1:18
Ha. Joe's the best. Incrinculent, one might say.

A while back, teams had 14 position players, 6 of whom were on the bench, more recently 13 and 5 before the NL DH.  So they could afford to keep a glove-first no-bat players.  Now they only have 13 position players, only 4 of whom are on the bench.  They need productive bench players, not a glove-first no-bat guy like Alika Williams.  What do you think?
Jason Mackey
1:19
I get your line of thinking, believe me. But if I want Triolo and Peguero both to develop, shouldn't they both be playing? And I can't see how to get both of them regular playing time up here.

What does it take to be a sportswriter.

I'm sure there will be plenty of sarcastic comments here, but I started in this business in 2007 ... pay stinks, so I've spent time landscaping, delivering corporate catering for a deli and working for a health care company ... my wife and I delayed settling anywhere because my job made it tough ... I've missed an inordinate amount of functions for my kids (first days of school, holidays, all kinds of milestones) and 100-120 nights a year sleeping in Marriotts. Not complaining, but you have to want to do those things. ... You also need to be able to write, edit, come up with stories, research, be organized, write on deadline, not get flustered when you're constantly adherent to other peoples' schedules ... You need to do this because you like to write and find stories and be creative, not because you're a fan. I could go on and on.

Jason, I truly appreciate your endless positivity in this crazy world of ours, but if I'm on track for 45 homers and twice that many errors, an intervention would be appropriate, no?
Jason Mackey
1:23
If Cruz makes 90 errors, yeah, I would imagine there's action taken.

Mackey, I do think progress is being made by the Bucs as a franchise, but is Termarr the type of bat that carries you to the World Series?
Jason Mackey
1:23
Ummm, they're gonna need way more than one guy. Not sure "one bat" has ever carried a team to the World Series. But I like Termarr a lot and see him being a key part of the Pirates' future, no doubt.
