He can. And has done so. I think it's often circumstantial. Two outs, he's swinging away. You have to factor in the runner's speed, too. Score of the game, inning, etc. Sometimes you might take your chances with him hitting away. He has been better of late, although obviously it's been a low bar to clear.

Jason, wouldn’t Bea make a great lead off hitter for the Bucs?
Jason Mackey
12:47
Yes. I have also liked Cutch up there. Over a .400 OBP behind Reynolds and Jack works for me. I also wouldn't have an issue moving Reynolds to No. 3 to try and shake something loose with him, his Jack 4th, drop Santana ... there's a bunch of stuff with which they could play.

Seems like the only decent pitcher is Keller. Maybe Hill on occasion. The arms in the pen, aside from Bednar seem to be running out of gas. I don't like the way this is heading
Jason Mackey

Negative much? Geesh. They are in first place. I'm good with Keller, Hill & Oviedo. Bednar and Holderman give them a strong back end. Ramirez and Moreta entered last night's game in the top-12 in NL in ERA, I believe. Overall, team ERA is 15th. Team OPS is 13th. The upset-ness today is really something, gang.

Jason, this is reminded me of this : Do you remember the 1997 Freak Show Pirates? Not one team is running away with the division so far like that year.  Someone has to win it. The Astros won it then on the 2nd last day of the season. The Reds now are creeping up.
Jason Mackey
12:50
That's a solid comp, Johnny. I don't know if I see one team taking control of this thing, either. Now the Brewers are in the tank.

Do you think Shelton was settled into a lineup.  He drove me crazy with all the changes in the first 3rd of the season.  Lately, there has been some consistency.  Lastly, A Hedges might be a great catcher but his bat is killing an chance at rallies.  Do you think we should see more of J Delay?
Jason Mackey
12:54
Delay is hitting .177 since May. Hedges is at .194 during the same stretch.

Hi Jason.  Are guys like Wehner. Capp, Walker and Young “auditioning “ for a permanent position in the broadcast booth or is their rotating appearances on radio and TV done intentionally
Jason Mackey
12:55
It's pretty much intentional. They all have other things. Walker has business/coaching stuff. Capps lives in Atlanta and coaches a bunch. Young works for the Pirates. Wehner's wife owns a business he helps with. Walk doesn't want to travel a ton anymore. I think the rotation just works better for everyone. I don't expect them to settle on one or two MAIN guys.

Jason, What do think about adding Minaya to the Bullpen to take Zastryzny's spot?
Jason Mackey
12:57
I wouldn't have anything against it. I'd rather see Mlodzinski and because of timing, might be more realistic to see Borucki given the upward mobility clause. Do not know if Minaya has one.

Bae speed is impressive, but his base stealing acumen less so. Have Pirates considered to restrain his green
Jason Mackey
12:58
They've considered it and done it. Wrote about that yesterday. He has been much better about it. I don't have an issue with last night. Two outs, trying to get into scoring position. Jump was fine. Dude made a good throw. Even the fastest dudes don't steal 100% of bags.

Why isn’t Cutch getting any time in the Outfield?
Jason Mackey
12:59
My hunch is that they're trying to preserve his legs and have really appreciated the offense he's provided, potentially not wanting to screw with it if they don't have to. When Choi comes back, I think the mix could change.

I predict my A's challenge for the AL Wild Card in the second half of the season. Am I wrong ?
Jason Mackey

Only the WC?

Do you think Holderman is okay? He's only pitched 1 Inning since June 5th.

I haven't seen anything strange. Off days could play a part. But, yeah, that is a little long. I'll check with Shelton today.
OK, folks. That does it for this week. Thanks so much for participating. Lot of great questions. Talk to you next week from Pittsburgh!
