They're reassessing today and tomorrow. They expect to know more about a rehab assignment by Sunday.

I'm old, too. At first glance I read CSN at Crobsy Stills and Nash
Jason Mackey
12:52
I know. That's why I type it.

Jason, any news on the grievance filed between the union and the Pirates (mentioned during the lockout)
Jason Mackey
12:52
Nope. Still pending. Just kinda sitting there like Robby's cheese in St. Louis.

Would they consider a great offer for Bednar?
Jason Mackey
12:53
It would have to be, like, two top-50 guys or something insane. Nobody is offering what it would take.

Looks like Keller may have turned the corner?
Jason Mackey
12:53
In more than just a hallway, too. Yeah, I like what he's done with the sinker. He's building something here, it seems.

I was asking more so about the decision to go with Banda (instead of someone else) than pulling Mitch.
Jason Mackey
12:54
That's 20/20 for me. Banda has been good at times. Believe they had a lefty up. He should be able to get outs. Or, if he can't, get rid of him.

Do the Pirates realize the level of outrage over this Cruz thing? These are your most loyal customers who follow the team intently.
Jason Mackey
12:54
No, I don't think they do. And I think that's part of the issue with it.

Hi Jason, I realize this may be too speculative, but do you think there's any possibility that there is tension between the coaching staff/front office and Cruz regarding playing the outfield? To me it seems strange that this was their line going into the season, but then he barely played in the OF much at all, and Cherington just affirmed on Sunday that they still see him as a shortstop. When you add in having too many actual OF prospects for playing time right now, it seems like the two possible conclusions are that OF experience was 1 more excuse to manipulate service time, or that they are more set on it internally than they've let on, and Cruz is resistant. I hope it's the former and they'll just let him play shortstop and continue getting repetition with the throws. If he doesn't come up ASAP now that super two has been cleared, I worry about the possibility of tension between them. Calling Park up over him is a yellow flag for me that I need to see reversed in the next few days.

Umm, yes and no. I don't think he wants to play out there. I know that because he told me. Now, does that mean there's beef with him and the org? No. Also doesn't mean he'll refuse to play out there. But I think they're treading lightly because he is so dead set on playing SS and they need and want him to produce. It's delicate, but I don't think it's negative, if that makes sense.

Jason I am 73 been a big Pirate fan for a long long time. I need the Bucs to bring me some joy and hope. Will they?
Jason Mackey
12:56
I think so, yes. Hang in there. It's frustrating. But as I tell people, I do think they'll get this figured out.

Will you be doing a profile of likely top picks in advance of the draft?  I've heard that all the top prospects are position players, and that's too bad.  The lack of quality pitching throughout the entire organization will hold the club down for years to come
Jason Mackey
12:57
I will try Jim. I've worked however many days straight, 10, 12 and 14 hours a day, with more to go before I can anything off. I'm doing all I can. I hope to get there, again. But just been slammed lately with newsletter, Sunday stuff, Father's Day, breaking news, etc.

Do you think there’s any truth to the rumblings that BC doesn’t want to call up/give Huntington’s guys a chance? Or is it just a coincidence that guys he’s acquired are getting more run?
Jason Mackey
12:57
I think it's more coincidence. He and Neal are friends. That would be an odd line to draw.

Thoughts on Marcano's recent play?
Jason Mackey
12:58
Have really liked it. He adds a nice element of speed, bunting, etc. Has a surprising amount of power. I want to see more.

Imagine I was brand new to baseball and picking a team to become a fan of. You were in charge in convincing me I should become a Pirates fan. What would you say to me? What's the pitch for rooting for this team and emotionally investing time, energy, and money into their outcomes?
Jason Mackey
12:59
I would tell them it's not impossible to win in baseball if you're smart and prospect-focused. The Pirates have changed A BUNCH of stuff and have well-regarded people in charge of that stuff right now. It's OK to hear them out.

Gamel to 1B when he returns?
Jason Mackey
12:59
Maybe some, but not much. Think OF is more likely. You don't want to re-injury the hammy doing something silly at first.

What was the thinking behind calling Swaggerty up, not playing him much than sending him down? If I knew that was how he'd be handled, even though it was a great thing for him and his family, I'd prefer him to keep getting ABs in Indy.

I think he looked a little overmatched, to be honest with you. And, yeah, he needs to play more. I think they wanted to get a look, saw it and moved on.
OK, folks. That's it for this weekend. Thanks so much as always. Talk to ya again next Friday!
