Good afternoon Jason what do you think about The Play of Joey Bart i think he has looked Good this season and i think he needs some more Home Runs Let’s Go Bucs
Jason Mackey
12:20
Good afternoon, Ryan. Bart has been solid at the plate. Defense hasn't been good but certainly not going to complain when it comes to a .272 average of .745 OPS out of my catcher. Those'll play.

Last night the Pirates won 4-0 with 6 of their 9 starters hitting .221 or below. How can Pirate management think this is sustainable? Why would anyone pay to watch it?
Jason Mackey
12:20
They don't. It also wasn't the plan. Now, you can disagree with the plan, and I do. Many do. But nobody thought it would be this bad or that this is some sort of desirable strategy.
Can him too
12:20
Why has there been no talk of firing Travis Williams. He had a hand in this mess also
Jason Mackey
12:21
He has. You could argue their bigger issues have been off-the-field and fan focused. Those are his areas. I've written and said it a bunch. Shelton was obviously. But they should have done more.
Who's next ?
12:21
So if you were in Bob Nutting's shoes (God help you) would you fire Travis Williams and Ben or just Ben. And any suggestions on who he should consider for President and GM ?
Jason Mackey
12:24
I would've fired all three, absolutely. For GM, I want a type. Someone who has worked for the Rays, Guardians or Brewers. Someone who understands player development and what those teams are able to do. President, depends on the route. If it's a business-side only type, like Travis Williams, I don't think it's a huge deal. If it's everything, again, someone will plenty of small-market experience. This might be a GM-ish hire, but I like Tony LaCava. Local guy. Been with the Blue Jays and around baseball forever. Could bring some people here.
Part of the problem
12:24
I think Old Lebo boy is part of the problem and he needs to go like Shelty did. Hire Sean Casey as hitting coach. He'll fix them
Jason Mackey
12:25
I love Casey. Certainly not ripping him. But it's a little easier to coach the Yankees than the Pirates. I'm not about to blame Don Kelly here, assuming he's Old Lebo boy and not me.

Evan Rodriguez, really??? Can't believe the Pens didn't keep him on the roster. They surely would have made the playoffs once or twice in the past 3 years with him. What a great career he has achieved - similar to TJ McConnell who seemingly has also beaten the odds.
Jason Mackey
12:26
Evan Rodrigues has been solid. I agree with you Cosmo. Don't understand that one myself. One of several personnel misses.

12:26
Jason, would Henry D be a better player if they injected him with some type of (legal) horse sedative prior to his starts?
Jason Mackey
12:26
No. I think hitting the ball would be a more productive use of time.
Outta here
12:26
Social media says the Pirates are leaving for Nashville. I tend to believe that because Bob has zero loyalty to Pittsburgh since he wasn't the one who signed the lease and he and MLB would love a team in a booming market like Nashville with its big TV/Radio market, as opposed to a dying city with an ever shrinking market like Pittsburgh. MLB and its owners don't care about Pittsburgh and would love to see the team be gone.
Jason Mackey
12:28
"Social media says ... " Good Lord. The Pirates aren't leaving for Nashville. Think about the Pirates' situation another way: They haven't won. Nutting has made a lot of mistakes, and fans keep coming back, perhaps some because they're sick in the head. You're not going to get that type of loyalty in Nashville.

Jason, if you applied yourself at the range and perhaps dabbled in Hogan's 5 Lessons, you could beat Starkey within a month's timeframe. T or F?
Jason Mackey
12:28
It would take practice. But, yeah, I think I could. Also found out yesterday that we play a lot at the same course (Mt. Lebanon). Should be a bet.
Sick of it
12:28
Reynolds and Skenes get traded at the deadline for a collection of stiffs who are out of baseball in 3 years.
Jason Mackey
12:28
Or not.

12:29
Jason, I hear the smallmouth bass and walleye should be hitting on the Lower Allegheny soon. I'll see if me and my man have room on the boat next time we head out. Go Bucs.
Jason Mackey
12:29
Go get 'em, Paulie.

I gave up on the pirates after moving to Chicago in 84 and I can't imagine why anyone would spend time being a fan of theirs. I know people want fans to boycott the stadium/team, but then that will most likely lead to the team leaving Pittsburgh.

Is it best for fans just to realize that they'll never have a team to even remotely have a chance to compete against the powerhouses of MLB while under current ownership? Or should they just be happy to win maybe one out of three every so often?

Darren always says to say hello, he's busy working on the next project...
Jason Mackey
12:31
I don't understand upset/boycotting fans feeling the need to tell everyone about what they do. It's like religion or crossfit. Let people handle things however they wish. I don't think it's insane to think the Pirates could win here. It has happened in smaller markets before. With owners who don't spend a lot. They just didn't make the right hires with this regime.
the horror
12:31
The possibility of Winnipeg vs Edmonton in a conference final keeps fans of the NHL who want the game to grow up at night. The NHL needs to get out of Winnipeg
Jason Mackey
12:31
You're dead wrong.

Where's the family vacay this summer?
Jason Mackey
12:31
Not sure yet. Think we'll probably do a few smaller trips.

Jason, I get the impression that the average yinzer would like me to go back those 3 degrees in the vertical and blow guys aways. Your thoughts, if any. Also, why do I hate Joey B? Seems like a decent enough chap.
Jason Mackey
12:33
He struggles catching you and shouldn't. Also, the average Yinzer couldn't discern 3 degrees of change unless Baseball Savant (and probably via a radio host) told them so first. Pirates fans want you to be good, just like they want to see their team win. When those things don't happen, they look for places to put blame. (Which is cool and respectable ... not always the most logical.) Just keep doing your thing. And stop walking so many damn guys.
he sucks
12:33
I think Skenes issues have a lot to do with Henry Davis being a terrible catcher and player in general. Agree ?
Jason Mackey
12:34
I do not. Also, Skenes "issues" have produced a 2.63 ERA and nearly a batter per inning. His best? No. But I don't think we need to sound alarm bells.
Josh
12:34
Jack Wilson’s son Jacob sure is a good player. For an owner that didn’t care about his team, the Athletics are a fun watch. Far better than this lousy hometown product
Jason Mackey
12:34
Don't forget about Miguel Andujar.
Shelty
12:34
Jason, I looked like a beaten man at the end, no?
Jason Mackey
12:35
Yes, you did. You absolutely knew it was coming. Shoot, you probably wondered why it took so long.
Disaster
12:35
I think the NFL Draft next year is going to be an absolute disaster and this city will completely embarrass itself. This city would screw up a one car funeral and the NFL foolishly think this region can pull it off
Jason Mackey
12:35
Okey doke. I think it's going to be a logistical challenge and crowded, for sure. But I don't know about "absolute disaster."

Can Penn State win a championship. I love Drew Allen but he always seems to play small in big games.
Sorry, I mean Drew Allar.
