For what it's was, I don't think they're going to do that.
Leave Latrobe
12:53
Why do they still insist on going to St Vincent ? The place is a dump. The players, media and fans hate it. Move to civilization.
Jason Mackey
12:54
I love the fact they still go to Latrobe. Awesome tradition. Couldn't disagree with you more.

If the Pirate got a similar offer for Bednar/Santana and a starting pitcher that the A's got for Miller, would you make that deal? I understand Miller is under more team control but that seems like a good trade for the A's.
Jason Mackey
12:55
If the Pirates could get close to the No. 3 prospect in MLB for Bednar? I would make that deal in 0.0000001 seconds.

What’s in the water in Greensboro? The Grasshoppers are 42 games above .500! Holy horse milk! Why don’t these results translate throughout the organization? The guys playing in high A won’t do as well to win like that in Altoona, Indy, then PIT
Jason Mackey
12:56
Ha! This may be surprising, but the Pirates have struggled some with development. Greensboro does seem to have a solid thing going, however. We'll see if they can move those guys along. Bigger-picture, it's still only High-A results.

following up on your response about the state of MLB hitting… I believe it to be the result of pitching being so good and specialist-driven based on analytics which is not going away..do you see a possibility of a change in mound height or even distance of rubber from home plate.  They tweaked P Rules in 1969 when pitching got to dominant.  Plus it would also play into improvements that were made to shorten games and increase engagement.  Nothing fun about watching 9 k’s an evening…every evening.
Jason Mackey
12:57
I don't think so. I have not heard any sort of discussion about changing the mound height or distance from home plate.

Whats your go to wing at Dinos ? Do you fancy media types have to stay in the dorms on campus ?
Jason Mackey
12:57
We do not. Used to. COVID killed that. Most of us drive back and forth. Some people get a place out there. Have never been to Dino's. I need to correct that. Shame on me.

Jason, just as a follow up about IKF, has he said this about not wanting to re-sign? I recall seeing comments about him hoping to stick around, maybe I am wrong....
Jason Mackey
12:58
He has. That has just always been my impression: that he wasn't gonna be here past his current contract.

Hi Jason, always enjoy reading your insights. Speaking of, do you sense they are not going to trade Keller? are teams not willing to give up an number one hitting prospect? thanks
Jason Mackey
12:58
I don't think they're going to trade Keller, no. I think it's too tough/unique of a deal to make now. And I question whether the owner would allow the GM to make it.
Andy Carnegie
12:58
Have you heard any more rumors on possible trades today?  It sounds unlikely that Keller will get moved unless some team  wows them with an offer at the 11th hour.
Jason Mackey
12:59
Nothing that's not already out there. Sorry!

Jason, has Dubas purposely waited out the FA market to enhance the Rakell/Rust market to teams who missed on F/A or just the way it has worked out?
Jason Mackey
1:00
Probably the way it has worked out. This time of year is generally quiet in hockey. Nothing new there. I think Penguins president of hockey operations Kyle Dubas (I just typed Kyle, then I realized there's an emailer and radio called who love to tell me how that's biased and makes me a bad journalist) is gonna wait until he gets what he wants. As he should.
Trade me
1:00
I wish after these guys that get traded by the Pirates  would throw shade on Bob Nutting and the entire organization. Call Bob and Co. out for not being serious about winning and being a Mickey Mouse operation. You know they want to say it. I wish they would.
Jason Mackey
1:00
What if they weren't all super unhappy? You want them to make it up?

Settle an argument for me with my Dad. I say the Bucs will give Skenes a new contract either this off season or next instead of letting him get to his arbitration years, where he will likely win his case.  He could ask for $25 million in his three arb years (I think that's how many he has before he's a FA).  I know it's difficult to predict the future haha, but playing devil's advocate here...thoughts?
Jason Mackey
1:01
They're not going to give Skenes a contract extension. They'll give him a new contract -- his team-control one. Then they'll move into arbitration the next year.

I think the Steelers are at best, marginally better this year. I feels like as currently constructed, its another 10-7 year with no playoff victories. Are we sure they are that much better?
Jason Mackey
1:02
I could see the top end being a little better. They have improved at QB, WR and RB. I think the OL can be better. Should be better against the run. They still don't have enough depth. But I don't think it's nuts to see them topping out at 11 wins.

Does Bob Nutting not realize that by being a contender, attendance would rise, restaurants would be crowded, hotels would be filled, downtown Pgh would thrive. etc, etc. etc. ?
Jason Mackey
1:02
He realizes it. I think he's exercising way too much caution in getting there.
That's It, Fort Pitt
1:02
Would YOU consider moving Reynolds to the IF? If so, where?
Jason Mackey
1:03
I would not. I might re-try him in left. But I think I'd probably just stick it out and chalk this up to being a bad year.
Aces High

While the trade of Hayes is seen as needed by most, how can  the GM and ownership be ever remotely trusted to make an improvement in the area when they have been " trying " to find a 1b option for 4 years?? Who would be some of your suggestions for 3b next year?
Jason Mackey
1:03
I haven't gotten that far, Aces. I'm sorry. Long way to go. I know they need offense. That's why I had no issue with the Hayes trade. There are a variety of ways to do that.

Jason, I appear to have decent power potential with ginormous holes in my swing path. Does this correlate with your assessment?
Jason Mackey
1:04
Umm, maybe. There's some power. Just hasn't been enough consistency. Another thing I wouldn't mind seeing the rest of the way: whether they have something in Peguero.

Where does the Backyard Brawl rank as it relates to other CFB rivalries in your mind?
Jason Mackey
1:05
I don't know about No. 1, but I think it's definitely in the top 10. Would be better if it was played every year.

Jason, I am looking like a real good 3 in a solid rotation. Concurrence on your end?
Jason Mackey
1:05
I'd keep running you out there to find out, I know that.

Jason, My happiness in seeing The Cobra finally getting into the Hall of Fame was superseded by my disappointment not only that it took so (TOO!) long for him to get in but that he was not alive to enjoy it! I guess my question is why did it take so long? If the voters could not recognize his worthiness, then they should revamp the whole voting process!
Jason Mackey
1:06
Yeah, I don't know if I have a magic answer for that. I've heard theories -- stats, cocaine, treatment of media, a flawed process. Don't know if we know for sure. I agree that it should have happened long ago. I just can't point to one concrete reason as to why.

Jason, how many games, ultimately, do I get to play with Livvy's main man? I'm thinking not very many. Your thoughts, if any?
