Maybe. But you also have the head coach saying he likes what Canada has done and isn't making a change at QB -- or that's what I thought he said, anyway. So what are we doing here? I think Matt Canada has had more than enough time to put together a productive offense. That hasn't happened. For no other reasons than that, I'm OK moving on.

Enjoy the chats Jason.  Have you heard which Pirate players, if any, will be playing winter ball?  Thanks.
Jason Mackey
12:25
Have not officially, Darnell. Believe Nick Gonzales will. Could see maybe Mason Martin doing it again. But, no, nothing official at this point.

Hey, Jason. The Stillers are in an interesting situation --- they could easily be 0-3, as 3-0.  Some tough games on the horizon.
Jason Mackey
12:26
Certainly. I think that's the nature of the NFL and why people love it so much. Anything can happen ... and usually does.

The Steelers have become the most predictable team in all of sports.  They are easy to coach against and are badly outcoached every game.  Every game looks like the past 161 games.  How long will this last until something changes?
Jason Mackey
12:27
I don't know. I'm not saying the Steelers offense is anything fancy and exciting. Think I said the exact opposite not long ago. But I can think of other teams with more predictable outcomes to what they do.

How does the Letang/Joseph pairing look?
Jason Mackey
12:28
Fine, for now, in what time they've spent together. But I don't think it works long-term. Dumoulin should be there. If/when Joseph joins the lineup, I want him to be able to play his game, which involves some freelancing and risk-taking. Doing that alongside Letang in a less controlled setting could be bad.

I know there will be a lot of vitriol today, but can we save a little for the embarrassing 2nd 1/2 from Pirates. Some individual progress but nothing looking like early formation of a competitive team.  Is this organization too comfortably with losing?  No one seems to give a s*** even if the players are doing their best
Jason Mackey
12:29
I didn't realize there was a shortage of vitriol being directed toward the Pirates. Must be the one day a year that happens. Ha.

Any chance Pirates extend Keller this offseason?  He's been a rare good pitcher development turnaround, and team is getting rewarded for patience they never showed with Glasnow.
Jason Mackey
12:30
I'd be surprised if they did that, Jay. Here's why: I think the extensions the Pirates try to pursue are like the Hayes one. Where they try to get someone below market value. Believe Keller is eligible for arbitration. That's a fairly cost-controlled environment. And if you're Keller, why would you want to give that up at this point? Probably just best to continue the dance ... all the while gaining more information on whether this year is sustainable.

I know its early but do you think the pirates will look into extending onei'l cruz this offseason?
Jason Mackey
12:32
Yes, I do. But how seriously will they do so? Not sure. It makes sense to make a run at him with what I mentioned -- buying out arb and team control with the player promised an immediate payday. I just don't know if they'll get serious enough with Cruz to entice him to sign. They didn't with Bryan Reynolds after 2019.

Does tomlin finally go to number 8?
Jason Mackey
12:32
I don't think. I think he sticks with Trubisky.
Jay
12:33
How did Trubisky ever go 2nd overall pick?  The arm strength and accuracy are seriously questionable
Jason Mackey
12:33
Ha. It only takes one. How did Daniel Moskos go fifth or whatever it was?

Hi Jason,
I still don't know the name of the mexican beer you had like 2 months ago. joy
Is Ji-hwan Bae comming to Pirates a sure thing?
Jason Mackey
12:34
Yes, Bae is coming up. I'll link Mike's story. Shoot, I don't know the name of the Mexican beer I had like two months ago. https://www.post-gazette.com/sports/pirates/2022/09/23/pirates-ji-hwan...

Hi Jason, I'm not sure what the Pirates see in Zach Collins. Can you see potential in him, or is he just a JVM 2.0?
Jason Mackey
12:34
I've seen nothing more than JVM 2.0 at this point. I'm sure he's a very nice man, but I'm not sure what we're doing here.

Hard to fault Mitch for last night.  The WR’s are diva’s with the posturing and complaining but the drops esp by DJ were

Not excusing the wide receivers. But for what I watched last night, there was enough blame to go around. Not ready to absolve anyone.

Question.. 4th quarter.. We needed 3rd and 5. Missed completion. Decided to kick the FG, 12 men on the field, 5 yard penalty. We kicked the FG. TV showed 4th and 1 after penalty, why was it not 1st down? Understand the dead ball came into play but what's the rule? Go Stillers....
Jason Mackey
12:37
I had in my notes that it was inches short. Did I miss something? It was third and a long five/short six before the penalty. Believe it was shown as third-and-6 before the offsetting penalties. Or at least that's what I have written down in my notebook.

Hello Jason.  It seems to me that Najee is playing hurt.  Do you see Warren getting more playing time if he can hold onto the football?  Thank you Jason.
Jason Mackey
12:39
Hi Yuri. Najee looks hesitant to me, too. Was actually talking about that with someone yesterday. Don't know if it's the foot or just not seeing things clearly. Definitely some hesitation there, though I do think it was better last night. Before the fumble, I would have said yes. I thought Warren ran very well and decisive, too. But I worry whether that will scare off Tomlin from using him more.

Chances the Steelers catch lightning in a bottle for the second time by stunning the Buffalo Bills?
Jason Mackey
12:40
Certainly not with the way they've played the last two weeks. I don't think it's impossible, but I do think it's unlikely given what we've seen of late.
Mitch

why are we calling up a convicted abuser (bae)? that wasnt even acquired by the fo? even if he's a star this is nothing but a bad, bad look.
Jason Mackey
12:42
If you have opinions on his past, that's fine. You're certainly allowed to disagree. Many will. And, frankly, if I was running things, I would not have kept him around, I don't care how good he is. That said, they did. And he's been among their most productive/MLB-ready prospects. If you've kept him for this long, I don't understand why you would only use him in Triple-A. Might as well see what you have.

Seems the Indy team is doing well lately.   Any reason for hope Endy, Swags, Piguero are here next year?   Timeline on Priester and Davis???
Jason Mackey
12:49
OK, folks. Sorry about that. Brief WiFi issue. We're back.
12:50
Yeah, I would think all three of those are in the discussion, anyway. Peguero and Swaggerty have obviously been up before, though they should contend for more time. Have liked Endy a lot. Would think Priester debuting in 2023, midway or later. Wouldn't be surprised if Henry is close to that.

On the Pirates, you don't need glasses to see that they are building for mid-decade when they started the tear-down in '19.  About 70 - 75% of their current MLB roster will have moved on by the time the top prospects are ready for the bigs.  So, why the fuss about their W/L record in '22?
Jason Mackey
12:52
Because fans still pay MLB prices? Because they shouldn't be given a pass to lose games thanks to a target date in the MIDDLE OF THE DECADE. I understand what you're saying, and there's some truth to it. But you can't just pretend like results don't matter. You need to look for positives or negatives, things that tell you which direction they're going with certain things.

Good morning/afternoon.  Always enjoy the chats.  When the Bucs started this rebuild, my immediate thought was that the Bucs would be pretty bad in '21 and '22.  They have made me look like a genius (although there was very little risk with that prediction).  I also believed the team would make progress in '23, perhaps approaching the .500 mark.  I'm not too confident that will happen.  How do you think the Bucs will do in '23?  Is there hope for any competitive baseball?
Jason Mackey
12:53
That was the exact prediction I said approximately 7,564 times. Yes, the hope for 2023 should be flirting with it, showing signs of winning. It really needs to happen still, but I think there's probably more doubt that it will happen.
