Texas should push pretty hard, assuming they lose Desmond

Cubs' hitting game plan tonight is more aggressive, right? Tomlin throws hittable strikes, so it's better to hit them before you go to 0-2 or 1-2. And Miller is rested, so there's no incentive to run up the pitch count on Tomlin to get to the bullpen.
Jeff Sullivan
10:12
Yeah, against Tomlin you have to get ready to swing early. But the Cubs can do that, so there's no vulnerability here to be exploited

Right now, I think Brian McCann is good for about a max of 60 games behind the plate a season and needs to be the DH the rest of the time. I think if things break his way, he can still manage a 2+ WAR season. If the Yankees agree to eat half his salary, what can they get for him?
Jeff Sullivan
10:13
Not very much. A pretty good reliever, perhaps, or two wild-card prospects

Is there anything cool and volcano-related to see on the East Coast at all?
Jeff Sullivan
10:14
No.
But there are still some pretty mountains. Pretty mountains make for decent volcano substitutes
There are outcroppings of some very, very ancient volcanism, but nothing that'll blow your mind

If Cleveland manages to Win two Championships in the same calendar year, will it definitively kill the God Hates Cleveland Meme?
Jeff Sullivan
10:15
yes
At least as far as the sports part goes
Youngman
10:15
Sounds like Coppy has a long list of prospects he doesn't wanna trade yet. Should he continue to stock young talent cause it's too soon in the rebuild to attempt pushing contention?
Jeff Sullivan
10:15
Yeah, if I were them I wouldn't push. But, like, what the hell, maybe go after Wieters and Rich Hill and see what happens

Piggybacking on Dave's post on Game 2 -- what's your ideal game (in a vacuum) in terms of length, runs scored, pitchers used, baserunners, and any other variables you want to add?
Jeff Sullivan
10:16
I love a close game that clocks in around 2:30 - 2:40. Satisfy just those conditions and I'm a happy camper
If you're going to approach four hours for nine innings you sure as shit better look like Dodgers/Nationals Game 5

10:16
What does the Padres' offseason look like?
Jeff Sullivan
10:17
A lot of other teams calling to try to get Tyson Ross for free
They'll try to turn Derek Norris into something but it doesn't seem like there's a ton for them to do
Dock Ellis
10:18
What would Odubel Herrera get in a trade this off season? Which teams would be interested?
Jeff Sullivan
10:18
Probably not a good winter to market him with so many other available outfielders. And the Phillies need some young position players anyway
Zonk
10:18
Who needs Andrew Miller when you have Mike Montgomery? I kid, but Maddon leaving him in for 2 innings Wed. while other good pitchers sat was telling, wasn't it?
Jeff Sullivan
10:19
He definitely trusts Montgomery, and he definitely doesn't trust Rondon/Strop at the moment. The leverage never really got out of control, either. The Indians didn't make things particularly close.
Clucker
10:19
Cubs -1.5 runs tonight. Where are you putting your cash?
Jeff Sullivan
10:19
I will never put any cash on baseball. I've made that mistake before

10:20
Given how key Bryant has been to the Cubs this post-season, do they make a serious effort to sign him long term, or is Arbitration inevitable at this point?
Jeff Sullivan
10:20
They will make a serious effort. I can't promise that it'll pay off
Q-Ball
10:20
Is Tomlin better than even the 6th guy in the Indians bullpen? How quick will the hook be on him?
Jeff Sullivan
10:21
It's almost impossible for me to see Tomlin throwing a pitch in the sixth. Even money that he's throwing in the fifth

Jeff Sullivan
10:21
I like that as a fun fact, but there's still no reason to think that Hendricks will be as good or better in hitter-friendly conditions

My young son is a Padres fan. He already has a Wil Myers shirt. Which Padres player's shirt do I get him for his birthday, factoring in (a) how good the player is and (b) the likelihood of him still being a Padre until my son outgrows the shirt in 18 months?
Jeff Sullivan
10:22
Jankowski is fun
Clucker
10:22
Do you boil or fry your pierogies?
Jeff Sullivan
10:22
Boil first, then pan-fry
Dan

Santana in LF or Schwarber with bum-knee in LF: Who's worse?
Jeff Sullivan
10:23
Well one of them didn't fail a medical test for mobility
Brad Radke
10:23
I never had Hendricks' strikeout rate, and I never posted a FIP close to what Hendricks did this year.
Jeff Sullivan
10:24
Hendricks had a 78 FIP-, in the National League. Radke peaked around 84-85 in the American League in the steroid era. Pretty much negligible
