It does seem hard to believe the Indians could not offer any better than the D-backs did for JD. Are they trying to go even cheaper for an impact bat? Jay Bruce?

I think it's possible for a return to be simultaneously light and about the best you can do. In theory, they could've held on and gone the QO route, but the compensation won't be that valuable either

If Kahnle is as good as you say he is then I think he was worth Babe Rutherford.

Important to note that Kahnle is probably more of a risk than other guys, just because of the lack of a track record, and his adjustments have been subtle. He didn't add a new pitch and suddenly dominate. He made little tweaks and became dominant. He *has* been truly elite. Still unclear how much of that sticks, but all signs are positive
