How much money have you raised so far from the EW mic+shirt+book raffle?
Jeff Sullivan
10:28
A lot more than expected!
AC
10:28
Are the Tigers the first team to trade away three Justins in one season?
Jeff Sullivan
10:28
I don't know, but, yes
5 Run Homer

I'm going into my senior year of high school. What should I do from here in out to get a job writing about baseball?
Jeff Sullivan
10:28
Start writing about baseball. Force yourself to do it a little more often than is comfortable. Consistency is key for developing your own abilities and voice

If Nelson Cruz does something similar next year as this year (40 HR, 100+ RBI 4 WAR), is someone going to give him a 5/100M year contract?
Jeff Sullivan
10:30
Edwin Encarnacion settled for three years and $60 million while being a few years younger
Cruz would be going into his age-38 season. He'd get two years and an option, max
Greg
10:31
Any insight on Conforto. Is this going to put his 2018 in question?
Jeff Sullivan
10:32
Seems like there's a chance his rehab could stretch into next year. And then it stands to reason he'd be unlikely to come back at 100%. I think Conforto will play next year, and he'll play plenty, but don't expect to see the same guy

The Tigers shed $136M in future obligations (assuming Upton does not opt out). It also dealt away their most marketable player, their most marketable player's girlfriend, and 4+ WAR outfielder this season. How long until the Tigers can honor Mike Ilitch's memory with a World Series win?
Jeff Sullivan
10:32
A very long time
Judge My Take:
10:33
I'd rather the M's miss the playoffs than have the Dodgers win more than 116 games.
Jeff Sullivan
10:33
Disagree

10:35
Can Jakob Junis be a solid #3?
Jeff Sullivan
10:35
Since June 11 in the majors: 53 innings, 8 walks, 50 strikeouts
10:36
He gets swings out of the zone, he doesn't have a big platoon split, and his minor-league numbers were terrific. I buy him as a big-league starter, yes

Is it strange that I think the Brewers being good this year is sort of a fluke, but I still think their immediate future is extremely bright?  I think many of their guys are playing above their heads and won't necessarily repeat this next year, but obviously they have a good pipeline to improve them starting next year.
Jeff Sullivan
10:36
Yeah, this has been only good news for the Brewers, long-term. Even though they probably won't make the playoffs, this has only been possible in the first place because more players have over-performed. Over-performance is good, when it comes to projecting the future
Greg
10:37
Which of the often hurt pitchers do you like most Paxton, Wood, nola, etc
Jeff Sullivan
10:37
Paxton is the best of them
5 Run Homer
10:37
Are the Astros again the AL favourite with the addition of Verlander, or were they always?
Jeff Sullivan
10:37
Weren't always, are now
Bear Hands
10:38
If you're the Mets, do you bring back Thor at all this year and if you do, does he start or come out of the bullpen?
Jeff Sullivan
10:39
Provided Syndergaard isn't being rushed, it wouldn't be a bad idea to give him a few innings toward the end of September, just for peace of mind. A's did that with Sonny Gray last year
No reason, though, to actually push Syndergaard at this point

10:39
Who's your favorite young player right now?
Jeff Sullivan
10:39
Mike Trout
Anthony
10:39
Dave says he probably wouldn't have done it if he were Houston, I know I wouldn't have. Would you?
Jeff Sullivan
10:39
I wouldn't, but again, I'm conservative when it comes to dealing young players. I prefer to hoard

How do writers who publish for multiple outlets decide which ones get the stories?
Jeff Sullivan
10:40
Sometimes the outlets determine the pieces they want. Not always up to the writer
Or if you have an outlet that is team-specific, that makes it pretty easy
Matt
10:40
Do you think an NLC team ends up sneaking into the NL Wild Card? Or is it too much of a longshot at this point to expect one of the current holders to collapse?
Jeff Sullivan
10:40
I keep watching the Brewers. They remain a long shot, but they're easily the best possibility to overtake the sinking Rockies

10:41
Think Maybin gets everyday reps in Houston down the stretch?  Fisher's been underwhelming, and Marwin's cooled off as well.
Jeff Sullivan
10:41
I think he'll play plenty while coming up short of playing every day

10:42
was there a point at which trading felix would have been the right move (in spite of how painful that would have been)?
Jeff Sullivan
10:43
Maybe after everything went to shit in 2010. That was supposed to be a good season. It was a nightmare. Felix had just signed a long-term deal in the winter, with limited no-trade protection, but that would've been the time
