McCutchen made an adjustment to reverse an extended slide. Pitchers subsequently adjusted to the adjustment that he made. His results are unusually extreme, in terms of both the good and the bad, but this is the nature of baseball tides
Zack Cozart
10:06
How am I still a Red?
Jeff Sullivan
10:06
Injury problems
And also that pretty much every half-decent team has a shortstop
Bob Villa
10:07
You think Francisco Meija is the real deal and could be a potential all-star behind the plate?
Jeff Sullivan
10:08
21-year-old catcher with bat-to-ball skills who's performing well in Double-A. He's about as good as a catching prospect can get
AC
10:09
With Tigers now in full rebuild, odds are they shop Iglesias and Castellanos in the offseason. Could either of those guys bring anything decent in return?
Jeff Sullivan
10:09
Not really
I mean, you could market Castellanos, and you could trade him, but he's not going to go fetch a blockbuster return

10:09
What is your take on the Miguel Gonzalez deal?
Jeff Sullivan
10:09
It happened

What does the future of my rotation look like for the Cardinals? Does the trade of an innings eater (even potentially a mediocre/declining one) help my team that has a departing Lynn, injured/old Wainwright, injured Wacha and young Weaver?
Jeff Sullivan
10:11
The Cardinals have an established history of being able to churn out roughly league-average players. I trust them to do that more than pretty much anyone. Given that, in theory they should need someone like Leake less than anyone else

Presumably, the Red Sox will be unable to keep all of JBJ, Bogaerts, Mookie, Benintendi, and Devers past their arbitration years. In what order should Boston priortize signing these guys long-term?
Jeff Sullivan
10:12
Bogaerts is the closest to free agency, and he still has another two seasons to go. There is not much urgency here, and besides that, these players are staggered, in terms of when the team control is up
10:14
I guess I'd put the most focus on Betts, Benintendi, and Devers. They're all good, but those three are my favorite
Mark
10:15
Will Story/Valaika hold that SS job? Or is it Rodgers job to take when he gets healthy?
Jeff Sullivan
10:15
Let's at least wait for Rodgers to be good against advanced competition. He's been average at Double-A, with suspect discipline
10:16
The shine is off Story for sure, but Rodgers has his own questions to answer
Moltar
10:16
When should the trade deadline actually be?
Jeff Sullivan
10:16
End of August?
Pete
10:16
We get to see the Dodgers playoff rotation fort the 1st time this weekend. Are the Padres a decent barometer to see how good they can be?
Jeff Sullivan
10:16
It's like rehab starts for all of them

Must-follow Twitter accounts for baseball fans? I follow you, so that's covered.
Jeff Sullivan
10:17
I'm not a real good person to ask. I use Twitter for work, not for pleasure, and I'm off of it the instant I can be. So I don't follow many baseball "entertainers" so to speak

The Yankees have three really good starting pitchers, and multiple really good hitters. Why are they so bad?
Jeff Sullivan
10:19
For whatever reason, the offense has been miserably unclutch http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=bat&lg=all&qual=0&...
And somehow Aroldis Chapman has a below-zero WPA
Fix just those two things and the Yankees are great

10:21
Albies and Swanson have looked good since being reunited on the big league team. How encouraging is this for 2018 team which will also likely feature Ronald Acuna?
Jeff Sullivan
10:22
It's modestly encouraging, and those are the three players to focus on. So many people talk about the Braves' young pitchers, but I wouldn't want to count on any of them. They're all lottery tickets. The young position players are hopefully the long-term anchors

Thoughts on Verdugo?
Jeff Sullivan
10:23
Very good
Marc
10:24
Assuming they make it out of the wild card game, who are the dbacks' four starters?
Jeff Sullivan
10:25
I think it would depend on how Corbin and Walker finish. I'd be inclined to move Walker to the bullpen, but if he has a strong September, then, well, Corbin has some relieving experience
Vinicius
10:26
Is Jorge Soler a AAAA player?
Jeff Sullivan
10:26
He's a major-league player. I just don't think he's a special one
Dylan
10:26
With this crazy home run environment, is anyone looking at recalculating run expectancy/linear weights? It feels like the way runs are scored is way different nowadays
Jeff Sullivan
10:27
They actually do get recalculated every year http://www.fangraphs.com/guts.aspx?type=cn
Home runs right now have their lowest value since 2006
