In most cases, not interested. Too volatile injury-wise; also his age and team context make betting on a 2H rebound unlikely for me

Brent, my man! How have you been?

I'd love to get your opinion on a couple of young players that are cooking right now in the minors.

1) Xavier Edwards. Elite contact and speed. With Segura struggling, could he get the call soon. And if so, are you in?

2) Curtis Mead. TB is crowded and Mead had a slow start, but, man, does his talent pop! He's on fire right now. Any chance the Rays clear a pathway for him at the deadline?

Thanks for keeping this rolling!!!
Brent Hershey
12:56
1) Interested, but all depends where the other parts of that MIA group are trending at the moment. I'd have to believe for sure that he'd find PT before diving in.
2) It's the Rays ... I could be wrong, but have they 'cleared a pathway' for any young player recently who's not named 'Wander'? I see him getting called up, and then inserting him into the mixing and matching that has become their (successful) hallmark. Perhaps down the line he's a staple, but I don't see it happening this year.

Appreciate the kind words!

5x5 AL Only - Stanton or Bregman ROS?
Brent Hershey
12:57
Hmmm.... Bregman, partially due to stability and health

Filling 1B has been a struggle this year (RIP Vinnie P). How would you prioritize the following waiver options: J. Abreu, Cron, Tork, Casas, Votto, Nolan Jones? (12 team 5x5 OBP)
Brent Hershey
12:58
Casas (I think a 2H breakout is possible), Jones (as long as COL keeps playing him), Tork, Votto, Abreu, Cron

Some decent options here, methinks.

Monday Fun-day!

Brent ... do you like Maikel Garcia and Jonathan Aranda as dynasty players? Considering the "eh" status of 2B currently, Aranda interests me longterm if he can carve out consistent PT.

What says you?
Brent Hershey
1:00
Garcia > Aranda for sure. Aranda -- another talented Rays player that, if he sticks, will become a part of their 'rotation' until proven otherwise. That wins real-life games and causes us fantasy headaches.

Kyle Bradish or Reese Olson ROS? Both looking good!
Brent Hershey
1:02
Agreed. Ever so slight lean to Bradish (track record, has made positive adjustments, better supporting cast) ... though Olson has a chance to out-earn some of the big-slash mid-season SP callups once the season has wrapped up. Still under the radar some.

Would you drop Ty France for CES?
Brent Hershey
1:02
Probably not right now. Too many unknowns regarding how Reds are going to fit him into the lineup

Happy Monday. What to make of Baltimore's 1B situation? Are O'Hearn and Mountcastle now in a platoon? Which one is likely to have the most AL-league value for ROS?
Brent Hershey
1:05
Think a platoon is very possible. Curious to me that O'Hearn played and Mountcastle sat Sunday vs. LHP. Mountcastle's vertigo might be a bigger deal that we realize. O'H is mashing and though there are lots of Birds' mouths to feed, this situation is worth keeping an eye on. Feel better about O'H's chances right now of more ROS value.

Outlook on Joe Ryan ROS? He's looked a bit rough on the surface lately.
Brent Hershey
1:07
Think it's a rough patch that will correct -- though perhaps not to Apr/May levels. But skills still ridiculously strong.

Any updates on Esteury Ruiz's timeline? It's been hard to find info and sounds like he may be out a week or rest of season
Brent Hershey
1:07
Sorry, I don't. Agree that the ambiguity is a bit troubling

Odds of Hendricks saving 5+ games this year?
Brent Hershey

High, and I think it will be for the ChiSox

Please rank these guys for dynasty purposes - Woo, G Williams, T Skubal, S Baz

Thanks for the chat. NL only, deep (40-man) rosters. Are Daniel Palencia and Justin Martinez worthy free agent dart throws for 2024, with an eye toward meaningful back-end bullpen roles?
Brent Hershey
1:12
So much changes in bullpens from year-to-year, I don't find rookies like this good dart throws -- especially if saves are the ONLY payoff -- in a dynasty format. (IOW I think you have more success looking at current non-closers.) But if the cost is cheap and you can turn them over easily, maybe you give one of em a try

What is the likelihood that Hernandez finishes with the most saves in KC going forward?
Brent Hershey
1:14
Could happen ... but doesn't seem to me like they are grooming him that way in giving him some multiple-inning outings, etc. Knowing that the manager comes from the Kevin Cash tree doesn't help, either. Think Hernandez is valuable, but I'm not necessarily convinced he becomes a lockdown closer this season or next.

So many questions -so little time! 1st, what will the DBacks & the Nats do about their closer situations? Is Chafin or Castro the guy to get (again) in AZ and, with Finnegan on the block, should we grab Weems or Thompson?
Will the Rockies trade someone -anyone! - to open up PT for N Jones?
Will SD trade Hader?
And your thoughts on the Pirates bringing up Endy, Priester, & Peguero
Finally - CES --he must be up to play - who goes?
(if you don't have time to answer all of this, I certainly understand!)
Brent Hershey
1:17
D-Backs - I'd not chase Chafin/Castro. Not sure what happens
Nats - I'd go with Finnegan for now; trade isn't guaranteed
Rocks - been surprised how much they are playing Jones right now. Might not need a trade.
SD - No
PIT - all three should play it seems, though there's a lot of MIFs now
CES - I'm wait/see on playing time. Great talent, but not clear how the pieces fall

Pick 1 SP for this week: Peralta @ Atl (Strider), Eovaldi @ TBR (Bradley), Sheehan @Bal, @TEX (G.Rod, Dunning)
Brent Hershey
1:18
Eovaldi; hope you catch the Rays on an off day

My team has already turned the page to 2024, so I am loading up on keeper assets. How do you view Marcus Semien going forward at 2B? He is someone worth targeting for next year?
Brent Hershey
1:19
Sure; that works. No signs of slowing down, great park and surrounding team
Turd Ferguson

Danny Jansen or Raleigh ROS?
Brent Hershey

Is Eloy the most unserious athlete ever?  Multiple IL stints, multiple DTDs missing 4-5 games at a time.  Do you see any outcome where he is significantly more value than his replacement in a shallow league?
Brent Hershey
1:20
Don't agree with the opening question; that's not info we're privy to. But repeated IL and DTDs are frustrating, yes ... and at this point need to be factored into his value both in-season and next March.
Katman

In NL 5x5, got a chance at two of these three. Contract for 3+ years. Please rank: Chourio, Wood, Lawler.
