Folks! Good to be back in this slot; two weeks ago forgot to mention that we would forgo the 4th; hope everyone's holiday was grand. Got questions to get to, so let's go!

Thanks for the chat.  So what is going on with Skubal?  I know his last start was more of what we saw the first half of this year...but what about the 5 or so bad starts before then?   It's been very frustrating...
Brent Hershey
12:04
As a strong Skubal proponent pre-season, asking that myself. Was very encouraged by the adjustments he made pitch-mix wise during the beginning of the year; my sense is that league adjusted, and now it's his 'move.' Last start was encouraging for sure; our Matchup ratings are 'meh' on him this week, but it is KC, so I'm throwing him most places. Broadly, just the regular ups/downs of a young pitcher season.

12:05
Would you rather have Snell or Carrasco ROS?
Brent Hershey
12:05
Snell, but the choice comes with a sigh. :-) Greater K upside; we've seen Snell get on hot streaks in the past (end of last year, for instance). Risks with both, but I'll take the firepower in this case.

Is it finally time to release Jasson Dominguez ...or keep holding out hope he will break out?
Brent Hershey
12:09
This is totally league dependent (how deep your farm is, etc). It's way too early to say he's a Kevin Maitan-level bust. His OPS and SLG has improved over last year; remember he's 19 and only in full-season A-ball, he's still young for the level. If you have room, I think you just wait it out at this point. In shallower leagues, there are probably better (IE, less risky) prospect options out there for ya.

As an aside, very much looking forward to attending All-Star Game weekend in LA, including Sat's Futures Game. Will have another look at Dominguez there -- as well as tons of other top prospects. Plan to share some stuff on Twitter throughout the weekend, and def can chat on it next week here. Back to regular programming ...

Hi Brent-- I have opportunity to trade for Roansy Contreras, Ryan Pepiot and/or Ivan Herrera. Can you put them in priority order and comment on their probable roles and performance next year and the the year after? i can get at least 2 of them in a trade. How much do you like them?
Brent Hershey
12:13
Contreras #1 easily from this group for me, especially for 2023/24. Think he's showing he belongs now, and holds considerable upside. Pepiot/Herrera more of a tossup; like both and I might lean hitter, again given Herrera's experience gained this year.

great to have you back. hope you got to enjoy the holiday!
Brent Hershey
12:14
Thanks, Will, I did ...and backatcha!

Hi guys! Currently 9th playing for pride in my NL-only keeper, but only 10 points out from 4th. I had considered dumping for next year and got an offer for Albies straight up for Austin Riley. Who do you like going forward 2023 and beyond? I am stubborn about grinding away even if I can't finish top 3.
Brent Hershey
12:16
First off, great to hear this (grinding away)! NL-only, I might prefer Riley long-term, especially given the 3B glut right now. Think his skills are slightly more impactful going forward.

Hi Brent.  Merrill Kelly and Jose Berrios each have two starts this week.  Kelly @SF and @SD, Berrios home vs KC and Phi.  Can I trust them?
Brent Hershey
12:19
Our ratings say Berríos more than Kelly, though obviously JB's had a rough season so far. Likely would start JB for sure; would depend on other options for Kelly.

AL-only league.  Anticipating a possible loss of Benintendi to the NL, waiver  OF pick-ups are Cordero, McCormick, Garlick, Grossman, Moore, Biggio, and Andujar.  Whom do I take?
Brent Hershey
12:20
Right now with Alvarez hurt, I'd lean McCormick I think, then Biggio. Anticipating out-of-league trades is quite tricky, tho.

I had high hopes for Geraldo Perdomo - will patience help or is he just not as good as I thought?
Brent Hershey
12:22
Patience, I feel like, if your team/format can warrant it. Got thrown into the fire early b/c of Ahmed injury; has history of up/down streaks in the minors. I like some of the swings I've seen him take (limited sample, admittedly) -- but there's a chance your hopes were too high.

I’m in a 12-team mixed league.  We have many pitcher counting categories, including W, L, K’s and W’s per nine innings, ERA, Whip.  I can use another SP.  Your Alex Wood review is mostly positive.  Would you recommend that I add him?  Thanks and know that I enjoy reading your column!  Carl
Brent Hershey
12:24
Depends on other choices, but in a vacuum -- yes, Wood should probably be rostered given when he's shown this year. Health always an issue, but start em while ya got em.

12:25
Hi! 10-tm category roto. Are Brayan Bello or Cutter Crawford worth holding w the likes of Odorizzi, Mitch White Merrill Kelly, and  Singer on waiver wire? Thanks
Brent Hershey
12:25
In a 10, pretty sure I'd prefer each of that quartet over Bello/Crawford. I'd rank em Singer/Kelly/Odorizzi/White

Are Jhoan Duran and Seranthony Dominguez worth roserting in shallow 12 team mixed leagues? Do you forsee double digit saves for either in the 2H?
Brent Hershey
12:28
Still think this is possible, yes (double-digit ROS), though not guaranteed. Am surprised Duran hasn't forced his way into the job so far, but could still happen. Domínguez has looked pretty fantastic so far ... but they gave the $ to Knebel (though he still looks shaky to me). If you're choosing between the two, and ONLY are interested in ROS saves, I might lean Seranthony.

Happy midpoint of the season, Brent!  Love the chat.  4x4 12 team NL only.  Any bump/drop in W, WHIP, and ERA will be significant.  Please rank these injured pitchers ROS : Matz, Soroka, Luzardo, Megill.  I assume Matz' upcoming call-up puts him at the top, but I'm looking a month down the line when I may need to dig in deeper if I can't pull off a trade.
Brent Hershey
12:30
I think you've got em ranked in the right order. Probably a big gap between the first duo and the second for me

Hi Brent, I am another Alvarez victim. In a mixed H2H points league where SB have the same value as Runs and RBIS's. Looking to add 2 from this group:

Chaz McCormack
Jake Myers
McCutchen
Garrett Cooper
Aaron Hicks
Laureano

I'm open to any other wild card suggestions
Brent Hershey
12:34
My two would be Meyers and Laureano (figuring he gets traded into a starting role); Hicks #3. I think Meyers could be an under-the-radar player in the 2H.
Bob
12:36
How much of a FAAB budget would you spend on Eloy Jimenez in a 14 team league?
Brent Hershey
12:36
A high percentage -- 30%?, but that's a guess as it really depends on team need, remaining FAAB budget, etc. But when I can I try to have the space to pay up for in-season regulars like this who hit the pool, especially in a deep league like this. And yes, some injury risk w/ EJ, but think you take that on at this point.

Concerns about Nelson Cruz or Christian Yelich?
Brent Hershey
12:39
Yelich -- I think you're happy so far given the pre-season uncertainty, no? Thinking one-year league. Cruz ... at his age, any downturns in performance are concerning b/c you know Father/Mother Time is undefeated.
Frank
12:41
Since returning from the IL, Aaron Ashby has been underwhelming. Are you a fan of him ROS?
Brent Hershey
12:41
Not necessarily. Young starter, some control issues, think he'll be up and down. Could work out positively ROS, more likely that he'll be inconsistent at this point in his career.
Mike
12:43
Hi Brent. Thanks for the chat.I have cobbled together a pretty good staff in my 12 team HTH league For this week I have McClanahan, Verlander and Strider as no brainers but have to chose between Baz vs Balt or Musgrove @ Col. Leaning toward Baz due to the matchup dispite yesterday's debacle. Your thoughts?
Brent Hershey
12:43
Might be overthinking it. Musgrove is pitching like a stud; I think you throw your studs even in COL. Love Baz and that is a good matchup, but I'd go experience if it has to be one or the other.

12:44
Brent - Thanks again for these chats. NL only keeper (but ROS) concern. Must drop or trade one of these (trades difficult): Ashby, Manaea, M.White, Wood. Who goes?
Brent Hershey
12:44
Wood, I guess -- only since it's a keeper league and I'd want to hold onto Ashby/White to see how they develop.
